The Comeback of the Cannon-Fodder Supporting Actress

Chapter 435: Chapter 426: I Am the Malicious Eldest Aunt (Part 13)

Xu Zhiyong woke up, and when he learned that Xu Zhiqin had asked for a division of the family because of his disabled leg, he wept.

Later, when he heard the old man praise Anning for her kindness and willingness to bear his medical expenses, he cried again.

The first time he cried was from a heartbreak, cold-hearted so he cried.

The second time he cried was because his heart warmed up again.

He thought about how Xu Zhiwen, while he was still alive, was also very good to him as his younger brother, often giving him advice and teaching him some principles. He also thought that Anning, although sometimes harsh in her words, had a good heart.

He silently swore that no matter what the future held, he would respect his elder sister-in-law and would take good care of his nephews and nieces if he was capable.

The old man held the medicine for Xu Zhiyong to drink: ”This medicine was also bought by your sister-in-law with her own money, drink it quickly, it isn’t easy for your sister-in-law, you must treat her well in the future, do you understand.”

Xu Zhiyong nodded: ”Dad, I know. I’ve gone through such a hard time, and sister-in-law did not abandon our family. From now on, if I dare to disrespect her, let me have a bad death.”

Xu Zhiyong is an honest person, but sometimes honest people are stubborn, and once they stick to their principles, even nine oxen can’t pull them back.

The old man was actually willing to see this situation.

He and the Old Madam are old, and it’s really not easy for Anning as a woman to take care of children. If Xu Zhiyong is willing to help in the future, Anning’s life may become a bit easier.

No matter whether Xu Zhiyong is crippled or not, he is still a man. Having him to support the family is better than a widow and orphans.

”If you can think this way, your mother and I can rest in peace even in death.”

The old man smiled: ”Tomorrow, I will ask the clan elders to divide the family. As for your third brother... it’s also for his family, don’t be angry with him.”

Xu Zhiyong said he wasn’t angry, but deep down he still held a grudge against Xu Zhiqin.

Anning took the two children back to her room, made two bowls of porridge on a small clay stove, steamed some eggs, coaxed the children to finish their meal, then let them play while she picked up the embroidery to work on.

This embroidery wasn’t commissioned by anyone; Anning did it intending to sell it in Prefecture City.

While embroidering, she changed the stitching technique from that of the original host, and also, she didn’t maintain the original host’s skill level.

The original host’s embroidery was good, but not extremely, it was only better than average local embroidery women, far from those prominent embroiders.

This time, Anning used half of her capability, wanting to use this embroidery to knock on the doors of the noblemen in Prefecture City, and also to make some money for future preparations.

When Lan didn’t see, Anning’s needle flew across the fabric with astonishing speed.

While she was embroidering, Anxin was hopping around, and after a while, when Anning took a break, Anxin asked: ”Ningning, why don’t you separate from the family? Staying away from evil people like Xu Erya is better, now is a good opportunity to divide the family.”

Anning flicked Anxin, and like a bouncing ball, she rolled away, then rolled back after a while.

”Having been with me for so many years and still no progress.”

Anning massaged her neck, then lowered her head to continue her work: ”With Xu Zhiyong in this condition, if I agreed to divide the family, that would indeed be foolish. If we really let the second branch separate, what would become of the main branch’s reputation afterward? My Brother Ying’s reputation would also be ruined. Besides, Xu Erya thinks she can have an easy life if the family splits. She thinks too beautifully. I’m determined to let her obtain nothing.”

Xu Erya thought too beautifully.

She wanted to break Xu Zhiyong’s leg, so that both the main branch and the third branch couldn’t stand it and would then propose splitting the family assets. In this way, they, as the second branch, would be the victims. Moving out with grievances, would certainly draw the village people’s sympathy, and would also ruin the reputation of the main branch, the third branch, and even the Old Master and Old Madam.

In this way, the second branch would reap all the benefits while the drawbacks fell on others.

Anning simply wouldn’t let her have her way.

”Not splitting the family is just a matter of me contributing a bit more money, and any problem that can be resolved with money is not a problem at all.”

Anning smiled gently, ”I need to keep the second branch together; I also need to alienate their affection. Now that I’ve made my stance, besides spending a bit more money, there’s actually no loss. Not only will someone do the household chores, but it also earns me a good reputation and makes Xu Daya and Xu Zhiyong extremely grateful. Even Mrs. Feng wouldn’t have the face to speak ill of me afterward.”

An Xin nodded, ”So that’s how it is, Ningning, you’re doing the right thing. It should be like this.”

Anning’s hands moved faster, staining the embroidery cloth with spots of color, ”Moreover, I just said a few good words and spent some money, but the entire second branch of Xu Family will owe me their gratitude for a lifetime. No matter how many years pass, they will have to acknowledge my loyalty and morality, and they must not do anything to betray me. Moreover, I have more opportunities and reasons to torment Xu Er Ya.”

An Xin listened to Anning’s explanation and was extremely impressed.

”Ningning, no wonder you were able to leave the Main God and also take me along; your mind is truly profound.”

Anning smiled and said nothing more.

But she knew that at this moment her reputation had already spread throughout Xiao Guan Village.

Not far from Xiao Guan Village, in Zhonghe Village, Scholar Wen returned from outside, Mrs. Yu quickly came over, ”Why did you come back at this time? Have you eaten outside?”

Scholar Wen threw the cape to Mrs. Yu, ”I’ve eaten. I heard something outside, so I came back late.”

”What is it?”

Mrs. Yu brought a cup of water.

Scholar Wen smiled with a hint of pride in his smile, ”It’s about Daya. Daya’s brother-in-law had his leg broken, and the third branch of their family wanted to split due to fear of being dragged down. However, Daya said she was willing to take care of the elderly and pay for the medical expenses of the second branch. Now, it has spread throughout Xiao Guan Village. People praise Daya for being caring and kind, a rare virtuous person, and even spoke highly of the Wen Family’s values. From now on, it will be easy to arrange marriages for our younger daughters.”

Mrs. Yu’s face looked very ugly and awkward.

”She really knows how to act like a good person when she can’t even take care of herself.”

Suddenly, Scholar Wen’s expression changed, ”What kind of remark is that? Is there something wrong with being loyal and moral? Daya has been kind since she was young and is very filial. Now that she is married, she is also greatly loved by her in-laws. Her mother-in-law praises her incessantly, and even the second branch is very grateful to her. I think what Daya did was right.”

Mrs. Yu was seething inside but dared not say anything else.

After a while, Scholar Wen couldn’t sit still any longer.

He went to fetch some money, ”I need to go see Daya. Her life isn’t easy nowadays, and with the additional burden of supporting the second branch, she might be strapped for cash.”

Mrs. Yu saw Scholar Wen take the money and stopped him, ”Then you should rest a while before going. Why rush like this?”

”Foolish.”

Scholar Wen sternly reprimanded Mrs. Yu, ”Saving a life is like putting out a fire. The injuries of the second branch of the Xu Family are severe; they might need money to buy medicine. Should Daya be short of money, would not everything be delayed?”

He pushed past Mrs. Yu and left, leaving her furious, scolding after him, nearly breathless with anger.
