The Comeback of the Cannon-Fodder Supporting Actress

Chapter 394: Chapter 387: I’m Just Obsessed With Looks 29 (October Bonus Chapter)

Ms. Cui covered her face, weeping woefully.

Wu Ping put on an anxious look: ”Don’t cry, now that the money has been lost, I’ll just earn it back next time. You take some money now, I must hurry to repay the lender, otherwise, they won’t do business with me anymore.”

Ms. Cui still did not speak.

Even Wu Ni’er became anxious.

”Mother, where’s the money? You need to hurry up and give some to father.”

Ms. Cui just kept crying.

Wu Ni’er couldn’t stand it: ”Mother, just take out some money. I’ll go out and buy some meat and wine, look at father, he surely hasn’t eaten yet. Let me prepare something for him to eat, alright?”

”No, there’s no money.”

Ms. Cui finally spoke the hard truth, stammering.

Wu Ping stared dumbfounded at Ms. Cui.

So did Wu Ni’er.

”How can there be no money?”

Wu Ping kept asking: ”Where’s the money? Over the years, I’ve continually brought home over 200 taels of silver. Even if you three ate non-stop, it wouldn’t run out. We haven’t built a house or bought land, how can there be no money?”

Wu Ni’er knew the household situation: ”Mother, where is the money? Our family eats so poorly, my brother and I are starving every day, we’ve never even worn decent clothes, where has the money gone?”

Ms. Cui, backed into a corner, gritted her teeth and confessed: ”My brother borrowed it. He wants to study, and it requires a lot of money.”

Wu Ping looked at Ms. Cui as if she were a stranger.

Wu Ni’er also looked at Ms. Cui with some resentment: ”Mother, why would you do this? My brother is so old and hasn’t been to school. You... you have money for uncle to study, why not send my brother to school?”

Wu Ping laughed with anger: ”So it turns out, all the money I’ve been killing myself to earn has been poured into this bottomless pit of your maiden home. Fine, just great! My own dear daughter goes hungry every day, while my son can’t even recognize a single character. You are so willing to help Cui Zhiren study. You...”

While crying, Ms. Cui pleaded: ”It’s good that Zhiren studies, the teacher says he is smart. I just... when he finishes studying, he can still help Gousheng and Ni’er.”

”I don’t need any help from your maiden family.”

Wu Ping, filled with anger, smacked the table hard: ”I can support my own son and daughter, we don’t need any help from the Cuis. Go to your maiden home now, ask your mother for money. I need to pay off the debt as soon as possible.”

”I... I won’t go.”

Ms. Cui stubbornly wept, simply refusing to go.

Wu Ni’er tugged at Wu Ping’s sleeve: ”Father, my uncle mentioned a prospective husband. I heard they gave a good bridal price. Why don’t I go with you to get it back, then you can pay off the debt first.”

”Your uncle mentioned a marital match?”

Wu Ping frowned: ”Is it the Zheng family of the county?”

Ms. Cui nodded this time: ”Yes, Zhiren has been thinking about Ni’er. He went to great lengths to set this up with such a good family.”

She continued to speak, reminding Wu Ni’er: ”Ni’er, ah, you must remember your uncle’s kindness.”

Wu Ping exploded in fury, slapping Ms. Cui across the face, knocking her to the ground.

”Damn that uncle, he is a viper, an ingrate that pushes his niece into a deadly pit.”

Ms. Cui lay on the ground, looking up at Wu Ping in disbelief: ”You... you hit me.”

”I didn’t just hit you, I am also going to divorce you.”

Wu Ping continued to strike and kick her, cursing vilely.

His temper was originally not good, and he never used to lose his temper with Ms. Cui, thinking that it was not easy for Ms. Cui to marry him, and also for the sake of the children giving way to Ms. Cui.

But now, he couldn’t hold it in anymore, he even thought about killing Ms. Cui.

Wu Ni’er was terrified, crying while tugging at Wu Ping: ”Dad, stop hitting, if you keep hitting you might kill my mom.”

Wu Ping, seeing his daughter so scared, spared Ms. Cui for the moment and pulled Wu Ni out, ”Let’s go, Dad will take you to your maternal grandparents’ place. Let’s make that ungrateful bastard of an uncle call off this marriage.”

Ms. Cui chased after them, ”No, you can’t do that, it’s such a good match, plus we’ve already accepted their betrothal gifts.”

Wu Ni also clung to Wu Ping, ”Dad, what on earth is going on? My uncle said they’re a good family.”

”Ptui.”

Wu Ping spat, ”Good? Why doesn’t he marry into that family himself? Ni’er, that son of the Zheng family is nothing but a scumbag. He married a wife from a big family, but all he did was frequent brothels, and all the maids in his household suffered at his hands. His wife couldn’t stand him and they divorced, and what happened next? He caught a filthy disease and continued wreaking havoc; several maids in his family died and were discarded. Not a single girl in Qingyuan City is willing to marry him. I don’t know what got into your uncle, sucking up to the Zheng family and pushing you into a pit of fire.”

The more Wu Ping spoke, the angrier he got, his face turning red. The thought that had he come back a few days later, his daughter might have already been sent off to the Zheng family made his heart block up uncomfortably.

”Dad, is this true?”

Wu Ni’er was scared out of her wits at hearing this.

The frightened girl clung to Wu Ping and headed outside, ”Dad, you must decide for me. Let’s call off the engagement, quickly, I don’t want to go to the Zheng family, I won’t marry, I’ll just stay at home and take care of you.”

Wu Ping comforted her and patted Wu Ni, ”Don’t be afraid, your dad is here.”

He glared fiercely at Ms. Cui, ”Ms. Cui, you’ve stolen from your husband’s family to give to your own, committing one of the seven outlaws’ theft crimes, I am going to divorce you.”

”No, please...”

Ms. Cui wailed in agony, ”No... don’t, I dare not again, I dare not, I...”

Ignoring Ms. Cui, Wu Ping pulled Wu Ni and left.

Wu Ni sneakily peeked at Wu Ping a few times, ”Dad, if you really want to divorce mom, could you... not divorce her?”

Wu Ping took a deep breath, ”Ni’er, your dad can’t live with her anymore.”

The father and daughter moved quickly and soon reached the entrance of the village.

At this time, it was getting dark, and it was because the Cui home was close by, otherwise Wu Ping wouldn’t be hurrying at this hour.

In his anxious haste, he was pulling Wu Ni’er along quickly, but as soon as they left the village, Wu Ni’er fainted.

This scared Wu Ping terribly.

He hurriedly picked up Wu Ni and took her to the village doctor.

The doctor examined Wu Ni’s pulse and said to Wu Ping, ”The child is starving, hasn’t had enough to eat while still working, she’s already weakening, needs to nourish her well, otherwise, it might affect her life span.”

These words made tears fall from Wu Ping’s eyes.

He didn’t bother going to the Cui’s anymore, asking the doctor for the prescription, he carried Wu Ni back home.

When he got back, Mrs. Xin Cui was still crying.

Wu Ping said irritably, ”Do you want to starve us to death? Hurry up and cook.”

He sent Mrs. Cui out to borrow rice and oil, placed Wu Ni’er on the bed, and hurriedly went out to cook the medicine.

By the time Wu Ping had the medicine ready and brought it over, Wu Ni’er woke up.

Seeing Wu Ping coming with the medicine, she burst into tears with a wail.

Wu Ping quickly put down the medicine and fumbled to comfort her, ”Ni’er, don’t cry, Dad’s here, don’t be afraid, with Dad here no one can hurt you.”
