The Comeback of the Cannon-Fodder Supporting Actress

Chapter 367: Chapter 361: I’m Just a Sucker for Pretty Faces 3

Anning, having decided to go to Youchan Temple, set out on the same day.

She approached the butler of the Xu Mansion, who prepared a carriage and arranged for two house servants to follow, before leaving the Xu residence with her maid.

On the carriage, Anning began observing everything about this era.

She looked at the clothing of the pedestrians on the streets, the architecture along the roadsides, and the various items being sold, realizing that this era was still quite prosperous.

Moreover, the clothing and goods of the people were similar to those from her previous world, roughly equivalent to the Ming and Qing Dynasty period.

She even saw an old teacher walking towards the bookshop wearing a pair of glasses on his nose, indicating that glass already existed in this era.

Of course, the glass at this time was an imported item and quite expensive, unaffordable for ordinary households.

Anning then said to Qing Xing, ”Remind me when we return to find a jewelry shop and buy a glass mirror for sister Baobao, she has been asking for one.”

Qing Xing smiled, ”I’ll remember, Miss is really kind to Miss Baobao.”

Anning’s expression turned serious, ”Uncle and Aunt Xu have raised me for so many years without the slightest contempt; whatever Baobao had, I had as well. I must repay their kindness, a mirror is nothing at all.”

Qing Xing, having grown up with Anning since childhood, was very loyal to Anning, especially while He Juren was still alive: ”What Miss says is true, it’s rare to find people like Mr. and Mrs. Xu.”

Youchan Temple was not very far from the Xu Mansion, and they arrived shortly after departing.

Upon entering the temple, Anning sought the monk who received guests, merely mentioning her wish to donate some money for oil and also to request a peace charm.

As soon as Anning donated ten silvers, the monk immediately became much more enthusiastic, not only giving her two peace charms but also finding a quieter side hall for her to offer incense.

This was exactly what Anning had in mind.

Anning offered incense to the Bodhisattva, praying for Xu Bao’er to wake up soon and for He Juren to be reborn well.

It wasn’t until after noon that Anning had a vegetarian meal in the temple and then returned.

On the way back, Qing Xing did remind her, and Anning went to a jewelry shop she often visited and spent several taels of silver buying a makeup mirror for Xu Bao’er.

The mirror wasn’t very big, but because it was made of glass, the price was excessive.

On the return journey, Qing Xing held the box containing the mirror tight, fearing even the smallest bump to it.

As Anning and Qing Xing just stepped into the Xu Mansion, they saw Daya, who served Mrs. Xu, hurriedly running over: ”Miss He, please come quickly, our Miss has woken up and is looking for you.”

Anning instructed Qing Xing to carry the mirror and quickly went straight to Xu Bao’er’s room.

Upon entering, she could feel an atmosphere of joyful celebration.

Xu Pengju and Mrs. Xu, both smiling, saw Anning enter and Mrs. Xu beckoned her, ”Ningning come quickly, you indeed are Baobao’s lucky charm. Just as you finished praying, Baobao woke up.”

Anning walked over with a smile and sat beside the bed to see Xu Bao’er.

Xu Bao’er had been lying down for three days, having eaten very little, surviving only on ginseng soup, and now looked pale and weak.

Anning smiled and took her hand, ”It’s good that sister has awakened, I just brought back a glass mirror for you on my way back, do you like it?”

Qing Xing hurriedly took out the mirror to show Xu Bao’er.

Xu Bao’er smiled a bit, yet it was a very pained expression, ”I really like it.”

While she said she liked it, her eyes did not show any joy.

Mrs. Xu chided, ”Why did you buy this for her, it must’ve cost quite a bit of silver, you really spoil her too much.”

Anning smiled good-naturedly, ”As long as sister likes it, it didn’t cost much.”

”Knowing you sisters get along well, if you want to buy then buy, I won’t be the bad person here.”

Mrs. Xu laughed heartily.

As Anning looked at Xu Bao’er again, she noticed her expression was very strange, a mix of joy and sorrow, seeming both complaining and resentful, with a hint of world-weariness not befitting her young age, completely lacking the clarity and innocence of a young girl.

Anning kept a gentle smile on her face but was inwardly startled.

She sensed Xu Bao’er’s soul fluctuations again and immediately understood what was going on.

She sat for a moment, then said to Xu Bao’er, ”You’ve just woken up, take good care of your health, I’ll come to see you tomorrow, if you want anything to play with just tell me, I’ll find it for you.”
