The Comeback of the Cannon-Fodder Supporting Actress

Chapter 377: Chapter 370: I’m Just a Face-Lover 12

Anning was truly frightened when she saw blood stains on Du Juan’s clothing as Du Juan found her.

”Where is Baobao?”

She didn’t even care about Xiao Yuan, and immediately grabbed Du Juan to ask.

Du Juan, sweating profusely and breathless, said, ”I, our Miss is over there, with a...”

Before she could finish, Anning had already run far away.

Xiao Yuan quickly followed.

The two found Xu Bao’er in the woods.

Xu Bao’er and a little girl were watching over a man lying unconscious and bloodied on the ground.

”What happened?”

Anning ran over to check on Xu Bao’er first, and seeing that she was unharmed, she then squatted down to look at the man.

Fiddling about, she noted, ”He’s still alive, let’s take him to the doctor.”

Xu Bao’er shook her head: ”Let’s, let’s bring him home.”

”Why?”

Anning raised her eyebrows inquiringly.

Xu Bao’er stammered nervously: ”His, his injuries seem to be inflicted by someone’s attack, if that person is still after him, taking him to the doctor might send him to his death.”

That was indeed the case.

Anning nodded, called Xiao Yuan over, and had him carry the man to the carriage.

Concerned about safety along the way, Xiao Yuan protected Anning and Xu Bao’er as they returned to the Xu Family home.

Anning had the carriage stopped at the back door, and she asked Xiao Yuan to inform Xu Pengju first, directing Xu Pengju to have people carry the man in.

After they brought the man inside the house, Anning and Xu Bao’er breathed a sigh of relief.

Especially Xu Bao’er, who was so shaken that her legs were weak, nearly unable to walk.

Anning half-cradled and supported her back home, then went to find Xu Pengju.

Instead of calling a doctor, Xu Pengju found some antiseptic medicine and personally bandaged the man’s wounds.

He had traveled extensively in his early years, always keeping a good stock of medicinal herbs at home, a practice that has become habitual with many kinds of medicines and blood-replenishing Medicine Pills.

Once the man was settled, Xu Pengju finally had time to speak with Anning.

”I noticed his clothing suggests he comes from a noble family; the calluses on his hands suggest he’s trained in martial arts, and, besides, he has some old wounds. I think he must have been on the battlefield and killed enemies.”

Anning thought for a moment: ”Is there anything on him that could identify his identity?”

Xu Pengju shook his head.

”Let’s wait until he wakes up.”

They waited overnight, and the man finally regained consciousness in the early morning.

Concerned, Xu Bao’er brought a servant girl along to check on him.

As the man opened his eyes, he saw Xu Bao’er standing against the light beside the bed.

Dressed in plain-colored clothes, her hair half pinned up and half loose, with a gentle smile on her lips, the morning sun cast her in a golden halo, making her seem like a fairy in his eyes.

He stared for a long time, thinking he was in heaven.

”Fai... fairy...”

He opened his mouth, his voice hoarse.

Xu Bao’er covered her mouth and chuckled softly: ”I’m not any fairy. Yesterday, my servant girl and I found you in the woods.”

”Thank you.”

The man tried to get up but couldn’t manage due to his severe injuries.

Xu Bao’er hastily said, ”You should lie down and not move, be careful of your wound.”

After the person lay down, Xu Bao’er then asked, ”Sir, where are you from? How did you get this injury?”

The man frowned in deep thought, and after a long while, he tapped his head, ”I, I don’t know who I am... Do you know, Miss?”

This really put Xu Bao’er in a difficult position.

She didn’t linger and directly went to find Xu Pengju.

”Father, that man even forgot who he is, did he injure his brain?”

”Maybe.”

Xu Pengju remembered that when he was treating that man, he also saw injuries on the back of his head, probably from a knock.

”What should we do then?”

Xu Bao’er became anxious: ”He doesn’t even know who he is, how are we supposed to send him off?”

”No worries.”

Xu Pengju smiled to reassure Xu Bao’er: ”Let him stay at our home for now, we have plenty of chores, just let him help out. Later we can slowly help him find his family, maybe he will remember after a few days.”

Anning learned about the man’s amnesia during lunch.

She heard Xu Bao’er talk about his amnesia and found it incredibly cliché.

Thinking about how Xu Bao’er found that man, she inevitably thought of many cliché drama plots.

In those dramas, isn’t it that the male lead loses his memory, is discovered by the female lead, and as they spend time together, they fall in love? When the male lead falls in love with the female lead, he remembers who he is, resumes his identity, and in the end, turns from a frog into a prince.

If it’s an ancient drama, the male lead is generally a prince or a duke.

If it’s a modern drama, usually, he is a domineering CEO.

Looking at Xu Bao’er again, Anning really felt that this girl had the potential to be the female lead of a drama.

First, Xu Bao’er was beautiful, the type who was gentle, submissive, and kind.

Second, Xu Bao’er wasn’t cunning; she wasn’t a pretentious White Lotus but a true White Lotus, especially kind.

Moreover, judging by that man’s clothing and appearance, he truly came from wealth, or maybe he was even a noble.

Thinking this way, Anning couldn’t help but tease Xu Bao’er a few times: ”He lost his memory, isn’t that perfect? Uncle is currently finding you a husband, it’s quite the coincidence that you just picked him up, and quite the coincidence he can’t remember who he is. This really seems like destiny giving you a husband. How about this, I’ll tell Uncle to accept him into your family. This way, it would be perfect and complete from all angles.”

Xu Bao’er, teased by Anning, blushed and huffed, ”You never say anything nice, I’m not talking to you anymore.”

Xu Bao’er wasn’t really thinking much.

However, these words were overheard by Mrs. Xu who had just entered.

She began to ponder.

The more she thought, the more she felt that this might actually be feasible.

On Xiao Yuan’s end, the more he thought about it, the more worried he became.

He didn’t know that man’s background, but felt that he was no ordinary person.

That man was now at the Xu home, and might frequently see Anning...

Thinking this, Xiao Yuan grew increasingly nervous.

He directly approached Mrs. Xiao: ”Mother, could you visit the Xu home in a few days and discuss with Aunt Xu about me and Anning getting married?”

Mrs. Xiao laughed when she heard this: ”What? Anxious to get married?”

Xiao Yuan wasn’t embarrassed, and sat down comfortably: ”Isn’t that so? Although the Xu family treats Anning well, it’s still not her own home, she inevitably feels like she’s living under someone else’s roof. It would be better if we got married soon, to give Anning some peace of mind.”

Mrs. Xiao kept nodding: ”My son, you’ve really grown up, thinking of others.”

She joyfully thought about how to talk to Mrs. Xu, what kind of dowry to give, etc.

While Xiao Yuan and Mrs. Xiao were speaking, his servant, newly named Chu Jiu, came running: ”Young Master, Mr. Liu, Mr. Li and Mr. Xu have arrived, and they are looking for the Young Master right now.”

Xiao Yuan, hearing this, sprang up: ”Good timing, I was just looking for them.”
