The Comeback of the Cannon-Fodder Supporting Actress

Chapter 374: Chapter 367: I’m Just a Face-Lover 9

Xiao Yuan went to his sister Xiao Susu’s house that day.

Xiao Susu brought up the matter of the Xu Family.

”Little brother, you shouldn’t just waste your days away eating and playing foolishly. You have many friends outside, if you know any good doctor, please promptly recommend one for the Xu Family.”

Xiao Yuan nodded energetically: ”I understand.”

Xiao Susu was still worried: ”I heard that Xu Bao’er’s situation might be insurmountable this time, Mr. Xu and Mrs. Xu are crying like rain, I wonder how Anning is doing? The Xu Family is in such a mess, Anning must be having a hard time eating and sleeping well.”

As soon as Xiao Yuan heard it involved Anning, he immediately took it to heart.

”I will find a good doctor for the Xu Family right away, by the way, sister, should I prepare a whole banquet to send to the Xu Family?”

Hearing this, Xiao Susu felt like beating her brother.

”Why send a banquet?”

”I’m afraid they’re too busy to eat properly and Anning might starve.”

Xiao Susu angrily swatted Xiao Yuan: ”Even if their house is in chaos, they won’t let Anning starve. Sending a banquet out of the blue, what are you making them think? If you want to send something, send a small item, give it directly to Qing Xing, she will deliver it to Anning.”

”Alright, alright.”

Xiao Yuan said with a smile: ”My brother-in-law isn’t at home, huh?”

Xiao Susu sighed: ”Your brother-in-law has gone to Jiangning, he won’t be back for a few days.”

She thought about her husband’s hardships, and then looked at her brother still full of childishness, she couldn’t help but advise: ”Little brother, you’re about to get married, you can’t go on like this in the future. We need to stand up for ourselves; you’ll need to take care of our parents and your wife, you can’t let your wife suffer with you, we need to be able to manage the family business properly, constantly playing around won’t do.”

Xiao Yuan turned his face away, somewhat displeased by his sister’s nagging: ”Sister, you’ve said this so many times, what’s wrong with our family, we aren’t lacking food or drink, why can’t I play?”

Xiao Susu sighed again: ”Well, let your wife take care of you later.”

Afraid that his sister would say more, Xiao Yuan hurriedly ran away.

He wandered around the streets and then headed for a Silver Tower.

Just as he approached the entrance, he bumped into Xu Jiu, a gentleman he often played with.

”Brother Xiao.”

Xu Jiu grabbed Xiao Yuan: ”Haven’t seen you for a few days, now that I’ve met you today, we must have a good drink.”

Xiao Yuan smiled: ”Another day, I have something to do today.”

”What could be more important?”

Xu Jiu forcefully held on to Xiao Yuan.

Xiao Yuan pointed to the Silver Tower: ”I’m going to buy some jewelry for my wife.”

”Just jewelry? My family also owns a Silver Tower, I’ll send you a few pieces another day,” Xu Jiu still wanted to persuade Xiao Yuan to drink with him.

But Xiao Yuan got angry at this remark: ”What do you mean, Xu Jiu? Are you thinking I’m stupid, or are you despising that the Xiao Family is poor? Do I need you to gift things for my wife? Mr. Xiao doesn’t have money to buy, is that it? It’s for my wife, meant from me, using your gifts, how does that count?”

Xu Jiu didn’t know what to say.

”Alright, alright, my mistake, my mistake.”

He took off a jade pendant from around his neck and handed it to Xiao Yuan: ”I just got it, consider it an apology, alright?”

Xiao Yuan looked at the jade pendant, which really was quite nice.

He had also intended to buy one, and here was one ready, no need to refuse: ”Fine, let this matter rest, and don’t block me now, I need to hurry inside.”

Xu Jiu really didn’t stop him anymore.

Xiao Yuan fastened the Jade Pendant on his waist and swaggered into the Silver Tower.

He spent quite a long time in the Silver Tower, finally setting his eyes on a gold phoenix made with filigree and bought it, stuffing it into his pocket and heading straight for the Xu Family.

Halfway there, Xiao Yuan thought that showing up at the Xu Family empty-handed seemed a bit improper, so he went to his own shop and picked up a basket of plump crabs and some pastries, and had a shop assistant take them to the Xu Family.

These days, Mrs. Xu had entrusted all the household affairs to Anning, as she was preoccupied with pretending to be sick and in pain.

Anning had just finished settling accounts with several old women when a little maid told her that Mr. Xiao had arrived.

Anning quickly sent someone to deliver a message to Xu Pengju, dismissed the maids and old women, and had Qing Xing help her freshen up her makeup, then she hurried to the front hall.

Xu Pengju, looking haggard, met Xiao Yuan.

Seeing Xu Pengju like this, Xiao Yuan feared that Xu Bao’er’s situation was more likely to be dire than not.

He actually started to worry about Anning.

”Uncle, recently our Shopkeeper got some crabs that looked quite good, so I brought some for you and aunt to try.”

Xiao Yuan had a smile on his face: ”I also brought some pastries to show my respect to aunt.”

He said it was to show respect to Mrs. Xu, but Xu Pengju knew it was actually meant for Anning.

”Kind nephew, you’re thoughtful.”

Xu Pengju forced a smile: ”It’s just that my house is quite chaotic right now, I’m afraid I might not be able to host you well.”

Xiao Yuan knew Xu Pengju was not in the mood to chat, so he stood up to leave: ”I just came to deliver these items, I’ll take my leave now.”

Xu Pengju stood up to see him off, to which he quickly gestured: ”Please, no need.”

Coming out of the front hall, Xiao Yuan saw Qing Xing.

Qing Xing was standing by the corner signaling to him.

He chuckled and walked over.

Following Qing Xing through a series of turns, Xiao Yuan saw Anning in a small pavilion.

He sized up Anning and noticed she had lost some weight since their last encounter, which made him feel distressed.

”Little Sister, you’ve lost weight.”

Anning pinched her own wrist, where had she lost weight, she hadn’t at all.

She walked a few steps towards Xiao Yuan, and upon closing the distance, realized that this life’s Xiao Yuan was exceptionally handsome, still himself but somehow more attractive than in previous lives.

To put it this way, it was as if he had applied a beauty filter to himself.

She touched her own face, thinking that if Xiao Yuan were to dress as a woman, there probably wouldn’t be many who could compare to him.

No wonder her original self was desperate to marry Xiao Yuan; with such a face, how many could resist?

Xiao Yuan pulled out the gold phoenix from his pocket and offered it to Anning with a smile: ”Bought it from the Silver Tower, not sure if Little Sister would like it.”

Anning, overjoyed, received it and wore the gold phoenix on her head, smiling at Xiao Yuan: ”Does it look good?”

”Beautiful.” Xiao Yuan watched intently, took a couple more steps towards Anning, and was about to whisper a few words when Qing Xing started to cough.

Anning, knowing someone was coming, quickly urged Xiao Yuan: ”I plan to go to Youchan Temple to offer prayers soon, we can meet there; you should go now.”

Xiao Yuan also knew it was inconvenient to stay longer, he looked at Anning reluctantly: ”Then I’ll be leaving...”

He had only walked a few steps when Anning caught up to him.

Xiao Yuan was delighted, thinking it seemed his wife couldn’t bear to let him go.

But to his surprise, Anning had a very serious look on her face when she caught up, pointing at the Jade Pendant on Xiao Yuan’s waist: ”Where did you buy this?”
