The Comeback of the Cannon-Fodder Supporting Actress

Chapter 378: Chapter 371: I’m Just a Face-Lover 13

Mr. Li and Mr. Liu are Xiao Yuan’s close friends, even more intimate than Xu Jiu.

Initially, Xiao Yuan got along well with them.

However, a few days ago, Anning had pointed something out to him.

Now thinking about it, he realized those two probably treated him like a fool.

He also had the incident where Xu Jiu used the Jade Pendant to harm him on his mind, and now that these three had come to him, Xiao Yuan thought to settle both new and old scores together.

He quickly came out to meet those three guys.

As soon as they met, Mr. Li was flamboyantly shaking his folding fan in the chilling weather and said, ”Brother Xiao, there’s a new girl at Lichun House just a few days ago, she’s really beautiful and plays the lute well. How about we go and check her out today?”

Mr. Liu also urged on the side: ”That girl is of high status, not just anyone can meet her. With Brother Xiao’s looks, you’re definitely eligible.”

Xiao Yuan chuckled, ”Well... I’m afraid I can’t. My mother already said I’m to be married soon and asked me to behave.”

”What’s there to be afraid of?”

Mr. Li, waving his fan, said, ”About your fiancée, no offense, but your family is just too benevolent. If it were another family, they would have called off the engagement long ago. An orphan girl living in someone else’s house is totally under your control.”

If Mr. Li had said something else, Xiao Yuan might have endured it.

But this man dared to speak ill of Anning, which Xiao Yuan couldn’t tolerate.

In his heart, Anning was perfect, with no faults at all.

Even without parents, that would only make him cherish her more, not see it as a flaw.

Mr. Li was openly belittling Anning right in front of him, and Xiao Yuan became so angry that his eyes reddened.

He grabbed Mr. Li’s pretentious fan and ripped it up. Not feeling relieved, he grabbed Mr. Li’s collar and punched him, ”Who are you saying should call off the engagement? You dare to sabotage the relationship between me and my fiancée, I have to beat you to death today.”

Mr. Liu and Xu Jiu hurriedly stepped in to persuade them.

The four of them caused a scene.

In the end, Mr. Li ended up with a black eye.

He was furious too, covering his eye and cursing, ”Damn it, I was just telling some harsh truths, did you have to react like that? I want to see what good comes from marrying an orphan. You don’t even have a father-in-law to support you.”

”Damn it.”

Xiao Yuan was so angry he wanted to hit Mr. Li again, ”I hit you too lightly, you dare say another wrong word about my fiancée, I’m cutting ties with you, we die strangers.”

”Ptui.”

Mr. Li spit, ”Fine, let’s cut ties then. You dumbass, who wants to associate with you anyway? We were just flattering you to spend your money. You’re such a big man yet neither scholarly nor martial. You’re marrying an orphan, I see your Xiao Family’s downfall isn’t far off.”

”Don’t say that, we’re all good friends...”

Xu Jiu was holding back Mr. Li, ”I know you’re furious, but you can’t say such things.”

Mr. Liu also hurriedly persuaded Xiao Yuan, ”We’ve been friends for so many years, it’s not worth it, it’s really not worth it.”

Xiao Yuan rolled up his sleeves, ”He said my fiancée is not okay, and what’s that about me being neither scholarly nor martial, how am I...”

”What can you do?”

Mr. Li looked at Xiao Yuan with disdain, ”You’re not good at business, can’t even read accounts, not to mention studies, you barely recognize a few characters, martial arts... oh please, don’t make us laugh.”

Mr. Li grew even angrier as he insulted: ”You’re only fit to marry an orphan. Except for someone like your fiancée with no maternal family, who would marry a loser like you? Unable to honor your parents above, nor secure a wife and offspring below, you’re nothing but trash.”

”Mr. Li, I’m really leaving my words here.”

Xiao Yuan, confused, pointed at Mr. Li and made a fierce vow: ”I’m going to become the top scorer, I’m going to pass the Imperial Examination, I’m going to win a first-rank imperial decree for my wife. When I pass the Imperial Examination, you will have to kneel down and kowtow to me, calling me grandpa.”

”Ha!”

Mr. Li was amused: ”You? Maybe in your next life, no, not even in your next life. If you really can pass the Imperial Examination, I will truly kneel down and call you grandpa. If you don’t pass, you kneel down and call me grandpa.”

”Wait for it, grandpa.”

Xiao Yuan turned around and left.

”Brother Xiao, Brother Xiao.”

Mr. Liu hurriedly chased after him: ”Let’s go out and have some fun, cool down, cool down.”

Xiao Yuan shook off his hand: ”What fun? I need to study, I am aiming to be the top scorer.”

Xu Jiu also hurried over to persuade Xiao Yuan: ”Don’t stoop to his level; this guy has drunk two bowls of liquor and doesn’t even know his own name.”

Xu Jiu looked at Xiao Yuan: ”Brother Xiao, where’s the Jade Pendant I gave you?”

Xiao Yuan waved his hand: ”I went to the temple to offer incense recently and didn’t bring money, so I used the Jade Pendant as a pledge. If you want it, go retrieve it from the temple.”

Xu Jiu’s face immediately darkened: ”Forget it, it’s pledged now, it’s not that important anyway.”

Xiao Yuan narrowed his eyes slightly, knowing there was definitely something wrong with that Jade Pendant, and Xu Jiu was aware of it.

He had intentionally used that Jade Pendant to harm him.

Xiao Yuan sneered internally, saluted Xu Jiu and Mr. Liu: ”Gentlemen, I’m sorry, but don’t come to look for me anymore, I need to focus on my studies, I need to win an imperial decree for my wife, I can’t let anyone look down on her.”

Xu Family

Mrs. Xu, after much deliberation, finally shared her thought with Xu Pengju.

After listening, Xu Pengju pondered for a while: ”Don’t talk nonsense, and don’t think too much. That person doesn’t even remember his own name, who knows what his background is. Moreover, we don’t know if he has a wife and children. If we were to take him in as a son-in-law, it would harm Baobao.”

His words awakened Mrs. Xu.

She thought about it too; that person had forgotten everything, might have a wife and children back home, it definitely wouldn’t work.

She dismissed the idea, but Xu Pengju privately invited Anning over.

Once Anning arrived, Xu Pengju asked her directly: ”Did you and your aunt talk about the ’perfect match’?”

Anning smiled: ”Yes, it was just a joke with my sister Baobao.”

”Stop talking nonsense in the future.”

Xu Pengju sternly reprimanded Anning: ”That man’s background is unknown, we have no idea what his family situation is like. If Baobao gets her hopes up, wouldn’t that harm her?”

Anning bowed: ”Uncle, your advice is sound. It was presumptuous of me. I understand your concerns. But I was thinking about whether that man has a family, worrying that he might recall it later and cause trouble. However, I’ve seen his face, and he’s currently alone with no family, he hasn’t even been betrothed.”

”Huh?”

This made Xu Pengju curious: ”You can tell that? What else can you see?”

Anning chuckled softly: ”He is a military general, has been on the battlefield, killed enemies, he’s filled with a warrior’s aura. Moreover, he’s upright, stubborn, a bit single-minded but clear about grievances and gratitude. If something matters to him, he will protect it for a lifetime... Furthermore, he is destined for future fortune.”

Xu Pengju looked at Anning, and also smiled: ”Is that so? Let me think about it further.”

Seeing the situation was favorable, Anning smiled and rose to leave.
