The Comeback of the Cannon-Fodder Supporting Actress

Chapter 245: Chapter 243: Slapping the Apocalypse Reborn Woman 24

Anning leaned against the wall outside the toy room, making sure she could see what was happening inside without Jixiang and Ruyi noticing her and Xiao Yuan.

She tried to hold back her laughter as she sized up Xiao Yuan, ”Mr. Xiao, do you like me?”

”Uh-huh.” Xiao Yuan nodded vigorously, ”Like.”

He looked at Anning nervously, ”If... if you don’t despise me, may I pursue you?”

He asked with extreme caution, as if he was terrified of frightening Anning, and equally afraid of being rejected by her.

”Sure.”

Anning was not one to put on airs, and considering the connection she had with Xiao Yuan over several lifetimes, she wasn’t about to make things difficult for him, nor would she act coy in front of him.

”If you’re not willing...”

Xiao Yuan wanted to say more but, realizing that Anning had agreed, he felt a surge of joy, ”You... you agreed?”

Anning pursed her lips and chuckled lightly.

Xiao Yuan was over the moon and extended his hand to hold Anning’s. Hesitant, for fear of being too forward.

His at-a-loss demeanor left Anning feeling a bit sorry for him.

Anning reached out and took Xiao Yuan’s hand, ”Alright, come with me. Let’s go inside and play with Jixiang and Ruyi for a while.”

Xiao Yuan was pulled into the toy room by Anning as if he were in a dream, accompanying the two children in play.

He was somewhat over the clouds the whole time, not coming back to his senses until it was nearly dark.

Anning didn’t invite Xiao Yuan to stay for dinner.

Nobody had lived in Xiao Yuan’s house for a long time, and there was no food in the fridge. Both Anning and Jixiang and Ruyi had to go out for dinner, let alone Xiao Yuan.

Xiao Yuan understood that Anning needed some time to settle down. Seeing that it was getting dark, he rose to say goodbye.

As he drove back, his mobile phone wouldn’t stop ringing.

Seeing that the call came from a childhood friend, he answered.

”Xiao Yuan, do you know about Su Leqing’s story?”

As soon as the call connected, he heard his anxious childhood friend Xie Yi’s voice.

”I know.”

Xiao Yuan responded expressionlessly.

”Damn, has the Su surname gone crazy?”

Xie Yi cursed, ”Did you know she was following some construction worker a while back, later tried to harm his fiance, got scolded by that worker, then just changed targets? It’s bad enough she’s seeing a security guard, and we’re certainly not job discriminating, but do you know how trashy that family is?”

Xie Yi was a famous gossipmonger in their circle, born with a soul for gossip, always eager to get the scoop on everything – he was definitely the go-to guy for the latest news.

He called specifically to express indignation on behalf of Xiao Yuan: ”That security guard is a total mama’s boy and comes from a family that belittles daughters while prioritizing sons, with an insufferable mother to boot. Despite this, Su surname is acting like she’s been drugged, treating the guard like gold, and now to curry favor with this guard, now named Yu Ping, she’s even dragged his entire family to the Capital.”

Xiao Yuan only knew about Su Leqing dating Yu Ping, he was unaware that she had brought the Yu family to the Capital.

Listening to Xie Yi ranting, Xiao Yuan’s gaze turned even colder, ”I’ve already broken off the engagement with her long ago. Don’t mention her in front of me anymore.”

After his rant, Xie Yi laughed, ”Thank goodness. I really feel relieved for you, brother. It’s such a blessing that the engagement was broken off, otherwise, if you married such a nightmare, our brotherhood would be over.”

”But,” Xie Yi got angry thinking about what others had said, ”Do you know what that asshole Bai Yifan and his group have been saying about you? They actually said you’re the one with issues, and that Su Leqing must have been traumatized by your sickness. Otherwise, she wouldn’t be crazily pursuing those kinds of men, and some even say that Su Leqing is doing all this just to spite you.”

The corners of Xiao Yuan’s mouth twitched imperceptibly, ”Ignore them.”

”No, man, I’m sticking up for you here. The other day I ran into Bai Yifan and his group, and we had a bit of a scene.”

Xie Yi mentioned this and was beyond angry.

Xiao Yuan chuckled, ”Did you suffer a loss?”

”No.”

Xie Yi said sheepishly.

Xiao Yuan thought for a moment before saying, ”Don’t bring up Su Leqing in the future. I have a girlfriend now, don’t mention other women to me.”

”What?”

Xie Yi exclaimed, almost jumping, ”You, you have a girlfriend? When did this happen, why didn’t you say a word? Are we still friends? No way, you have to treat me, and invite your girlfriend too...”

Xiao Yuan hung up the phone bluntly.

On the other end, Xie Yi held the phone, bewildered with frustration.

When Xiao Yuan got home, he happened to run into Xiao Keke.

He stopped Xiao Keke, ”From now on, anything regarding Su Leqing is your responsibility; I’ll have them report to you as soon as there’s anything.”

”Okay.”

Xiao Keke agreed and then slowly reacted, ”Brother, do you have other things to attend to?”

Xiao Yuan hummed in a good mood, ”I’m going to be busy with love.”

After Xiao Yuan went upstairs, Xiao Keke let out a shrill scream, ”Ah, bro, no way, you, you...”

In a flurry, she hurried up the stairs, ”Bro, do you have a girlfriend now? Who is it, who is it?”

Xiao Keke was just short of grabbing Xiao Yuan and shaking him like they do in TV dramas, ”Is she pretty? What does she do? No, I must post on my circle of friends, so those who joke about you can see it too, to stop them from always saying you’re weird, and saying you...”

Xiao Yuan pushed Xiao Keke away and was about to enter his room.

Xiao Keke quickly followed him, ”Bro, you still haven’t told me who it is.”

Xiao Yuan stopped in his tracks, ”You know her.”

”I know her?” Xiao Keke racked her brain, ”Who is it? Someone from the Du family? The Xu family?”

”Tang Anning.” As soon as Xiao Yuan said these three words, he deftly opened the door, entered the room, and closed the door. By the time Xiao Keke reacted, he had already slammed the door shut.

Xiao Keke looked at the door, her lips curving into a broad smile, ”Tang Anning? It’s actually Senior Sister Tang, heavens, Bro, what kind of godly person are you to have pursued Senior Sister Tang.”

Then, Xiao Keke sneakily took out her phone to call Zhou Zhiyan.

”Yanyan, I have great news for you, I’m about to have a sister-in-law. Do you know who my sister-in-law is? It’ll shock you – it’s Senior Sister Tang! How about that, jealous, right? Ah, I’m so happy...”

Anning rested for the entire night and had breakfast early. She planned to ask a close classmate to take care of Jixiang and Ruyi for a while as she went with Yin Baichuan to the Xu Family to see the situation.

However, before she could call her classmate, Xiao Yuan had already arrived.

Anning looked at Xiao Yuan, ”You’re free today?”

Xiao Yuan replied while changing his shoes, ”I’m free.”

He had delegated company matters to Xiao Wanxiao and matters of the Su family to Xiao Keke, freeing up a lot of time to concentrate on pursuing his wife.

Anning was quite pleased to hear that, ”Good, then you can help me look after Jixiang and Ruyi, so I don’t have to bother someone else. I have agreed to meet with Uncle Yin and go to the Xu Family...”

She spoke as she picked up her bag and walked out.

Xiao Yuan was stunned for a moment, and then he thought of the Xu Family’s recent situation.

He glanced at Anning, ”You know about that?”

Anning blinked, ”I know a bit.”

Xiao Yuan thought of the space bracelet passed down in Anning’s family and then considered that a family with such a treasure might have some heritage.

”Just go, I’ll take care of Jixiang and Ruyi for you.”

”Thank you.”

Anning waved her hand and trotted out of the house.

As she left the residential area, Yin Baichuan had just arrived at the entrance.

Anning got into the car, and Yin Baichuan gave the driver an address.

The Xu Family’s place wasn’t actually far from where Anning lived. It didn’t take long to drive there, and upon arrival, Yin Baichuan called Old Xu, and soon someone came to meet them.

Anning followed Yin Baichuan into the residential area, observing as she walked.

The Feng Shui of the residential area was very good, and it was well-arranged, giving people a feeling of openness and comfort upon entering, making it a suitable place to live.

The Xu Family’s residence was in the innermost part of the area, very secluded and peaceful.

When they arrived, they saw Old Xu coming out to greet them.

Yin Baichuan quickly stepped forward to support Old Xu, ”Why have you come out?”

Old Xu laughed, ”A noble guest visits, naturally, I have to come out to welcome them.”

Yin Baichuan knew Old Xu wasn’t talking about him.

He looked at Anning, and Anning stepped forward, ”Hello Old Xu, I’m Tang Anning.”

Old Xu smiled extremely warmly and kindly, ”I know you. You are truly impressive, such a young age, and you have already achieved so much.”

”You flatter me.”

A blush appeared on Anning’s fair face, making her look like a shy junior.

Old Xu smiled and led Anning into the house; after entering, he sighed, ”It’s all because of my foolish boy, disturbing so many people, sigh... it troubles you.”

Anning’s expression slowly turned serious.

She turned around and began to walk upstairs at a measured pace.

Old Xu’s expression became solemn too, and he followed upstairs.

Yin Baichuan hurried to keep up.

Anning arrived on the second floor and stood in front of the easternmost door, ”Old Xu, who lives here?”

Old Xu appeared surprised, ”This, this room belongs to that foolish son of mine.”
