The Comeback of the Cannon-Fodder Supporting Actress

Chapter 228: Chapter 226: Slapping the Reborn Apocalypse Girl 7

Su Peng took Su Leqing to the Xiao Family.

The Xiao Family and the Su family were both fairly prestigious families in the Capital.

Unlike the incompetent descendants of the Su family, the Xiao Family was not only very united, but also boasted children and grandchildren who were particularly accomplished.

In the generation of Su Peng, the Xiao Family had already far outstripped the Su family.

By now, the next generation of the Xiao Family had risen, with outstanding talents in various fields, whereas Su Peng was merely maintaining the status quo, with no expansion of the family business. It was clear to everyone that Su Leqing’s generation had declined even further, and the marriage arrangement between the Su family and the Xiao Family was obviously the Su family latching onto the Xiao Family.

If it weren’t for the fact that this marriage had been agreed upon by the elder generation of the Xiao Family, they probably would have called off the engagement long ago.

But now, Su Peng brought Su Leqing over to break off the engagement.

When they arrived, Xiao Zhiyuan and Xiao Yuandou happened to be at home. Seeing Su Leqing, Xiao Yuandou hid his disdain and excused himself to leave, citing other matters.

Xiao Zhiyuan actually also looked down on Su Leqing, not because he despised the Su family’s standing compared to the Xiao Family, but because he disapproved of Su Leqing’s character.

Therefore, he did not stop Xiao Yuandou.

Instead, it was Su Peng who smiled and stopped Xiao Yuandou: ”Today, I have brought Lele over to visit uninvited as we truly have matters to discuss. This concerns Xiao Yuandou as well; he should stay and listen.”

Xiao Zhiyuan gave Xiao Yuandou a nod.

Reluctantly, Xiao Yuandou sat down.

He did not greet Su Leqing from the beginning to the end.

Su Leqing felt especially angry inside.

Xiao Yuandou had always been cold to her, in the previous life as well. Whether before or after the apocalypse, he treated her as if he saw a virus, never showing her a shred of gentleness even when she was most down and out.

Now, it was the same situation, making her feel even less than a stranger as his fiancée.

Su Leqing secretly vowed to wait and see. Once she found her powerful backing, when the apocalypse came, she would make Xiao Yuandou kneel before her like a dog, and she would make sure all the members of the Xiao Family suffered a miserable fate.

The malice in Su Leqing’s eyes was unmistakable.

Not only did Xiao Yuandou notice it, but Xiao Zhiyuan did as well.

Although father and son remained calm, their disdain for Su Leqing intensified.

Su Peng smiled and said, ”Here’s the thing, our two families arranged the children’s marriage early on. Back then, our Lele and Xiao Yuandou were both young, mere kids with no say in the matter; it was all decided by us elders. But now they’ve grown up and have no feelings for each other. I have only this one daughter Lele, and I’d like her to marry someone she truly loves and live a happy life. It would also prevent Xiao Yuandou from being dragged down. So, I thought it best to call off this engagement.”

Xiao Zhiyuan, hearing Su Peng mention the children’s marriage, had first thought Su Peng was urging them to get married. Unexpectedly, Su Peng spoke of canceling the engagement instead, which greatly relieved him.

Xiao Yuandou also relaxed.

This enraged Su Leqing even more.

Su Peng tugged at Su Leqing, smiling: ”It seems Brother Xiao is also agreeable to this, so that’s perfect. After all, this engagement was but a verbal agreement between our elders. Our families never exchanged any tokens or made any binding promises. Now that both families are willing to dissolve the engagement, nothing could be better.”

Su Peng was good at socializing and spoke in a most pleasant manner.

He certainly didn’t want to offend the Xiao Family.

Xiao Zhiyuan nodded: ”Alright, since you also wish to break off the engagement, let’s settle it as such. From now on, the marriage agreement between the two children is void, and their respective marriages shall have nothing to do with each other.”

With the matter resolved, Su Peng didn’t linger at the Xiao home.

Soon, he stood up with Su Leqing, taking their leave.

Usually, Xiao Zhiyuan would rise to see them out, but today, he did not budge and instead had a servant see them off.

Su Peng concealed the rage in his eyes and left with a smile on his face.

However, just as he and Su Leqing stepped out of the Xiao home, they were stopped by someone.

Su Leqing looked at the girl blocking her path, her pupils dilating in shock and fear.

Indeed, the person stopping her was Anning.

Anning observed Su Leqing, her hands joined together pleadingly: ”Miss Su, please return my bracelet to me.”

Su Leqing took several steps back in terror, stuttering in panic: ”Wha-, what bracelet?”

Anning, with a sob in her voice, said: ”It’s the heirloom my mother left me before she passed away, it’s extremely important to me. I don’t know what Miss Su saw in it to pay a million to bribe my relative to steal it. I... I won’t pursue Miss Su’s act of theft, I just want my bracelet back. I’ll return the million to you, please just return my bracelet to me.”

Anning begged repeatedly, looking pitifully miserable.

Su Leqing’s mind was thrown into chaos.

She hadn’t expected Anning to have traced the bracelet back to her.

Anning was but an orphan with no power or influence, so how did she manage to find out so quickly?

”I don’t know what you’re talking about.”

Having already bound the bracelet to herself, naturally, she couldn’t possibly return it to Anning. She would never admit to it, even if it killed her.

Tears fell drop by drop from Anning’s eyes: ”That bracelet is half my life. Please, I beg you to return it to me. The camera in my room recorded everything when my relative stole it. I also checked her call logs and bank transfer records, which led me to Miss Su. Miss Su and my relative have never met before, so why did you suddenly transfer over a million to her? Even if you were being charitable, you should have donated that money to children in mountainous areas, my relative isn’t poor.”

The commotion outside alerted Xiao Zhiyuan and Xiao Yuan.

The father and son instructed their servant to check on the situation and, hearing that a girl was blocking Su Leqing to retrieve a bracelet, both were intrigued enough to come out and observe.

Xiao Yuan felt sorry for Anning’s pitiful state, and upon hearing that it was her mother’s heirloom and that Anning had uncovered evidence, he spoke up for her: ”Miss Su, if you truly have this young lady’s bracelet, please return it to her, after all, it’s her mother’s heirloom.”

Su Leqing clenched her teeth in rage, yet obstinately refused to admit: ”I didn’t. I never told anyone to steal your bracelet. You must have made a mistake. I understand you’re distressed over losing something important, but that’s no reason for you to falsely accuse me.”

Su Peng looked at Anning with a severely dark expression: ”Don’t be so unreasonable, young girl. Our Lele has seen all sorts of nice things. Why would she steal your bracelet?”

Anning kept her gaze fixed on Su Leqing and, feeling the charade had gone far enough, wiped away her tears and angrily demanded of Su Leqing: ”Miss Su, can you explain why you gave over a million to my relative?”

”Do I have so much money that I don’t know how to spend it? Who gave money to your relative?”

Anning scoffed and pulled out several sheets of paper from her bag: ”These are the transfer records I found. Miss Su, you can confirm them yourself.”

Su Peng took the papers and scrutinized them closely.

These were indeed transfer records from Su Leqing.

Sure enough, she had inexplicably transferred over a million to a woman surnamed Tang not long ago.

Su Peng looked at Su Leqing.

But Su Leqing still wouldn’t admit it: ”These are slander against me; all of this is fabricated. I don’t know anything about a bracelet. Now leave, and if you don’t go, I’ll make you regret it.”

Anning’s gaze grew colder, her eyes laced with frost: ”Quite the Miss Su of the Su family, stealing from others and refusing to admit it. In that case, do you dare to swear that if you stole my belongings, you shall always be troubled and turn into a walking corpse in your lifetime...”

Anning hadn’t even finished speaking when Su Leqing began screaming.

The main reason was Xiao’s mention of a ”walking corpse,” knowing there would be an apocalypse, the term made her tremble in fear: ”Leave, now, get out...”

Anning’s expression turned colder: ”If you’re innocent, why fear swearing an oath?”

She snatched the evidence from Su Peng’s hands and shoved it into her bag: ”I am but an orphan, and your Su family, with its large business, naturally won’t take me seriously. I’ll accept this loss for now, but don’t come asking for my help in the future—let’s wait and see.”

She left with her anger in tow.

Xiao Yuan’s eyes narrowed slightly, thoughtfully.

Xiao Zhiyuan shook his head at Su Leqing, speechless, and felt even more relieved that the marriage between their families had been called off.

Su Leqing, with such undesirable character, was someone the Xiao family certainly wouldn’t welcome.
