The Comeback of the Cannon-Fodder Supporting Actress

Chapter 238: Chapter 236: Slapping the Apocalypse Rebirth Woman 17

Qian Yue Mei’s life has been quite good recently.

She used to work as a cashier in a supermarket, but recently she has been promoted to be the manager of the logistics department because of her consistent good performance.

From a simple cashier to a manager, not only has her salary increased significantly, but she also has more time to rest.

Qian Yue Mei was quite happy.

A few of her close friends were also very happy for her and kept urging her to treat them to a meal.

Thinking that she should celebrate her promotion, Qian Yue Mei readily agreed.

After getting off work that day, Qian Yue Mei called Zhou Zhigang and then made plans to go out for a meal with her girlfriends.

Naturally, they did not look for any fancy restaurants; they just went to a hot pot restaurant to enjoy hot pot.

The weather was getting colder, and eating hot pot at this time of the year is a very enjoyable thing.

When they arrived, the hot pot restaurant was almost full, but one of Qian Yue Mei’s sharp-eyed friends found an unoccupied corner for them.

As they sat down, Qian Yue Mei let her friends order the food, and very soon, the orders were placed while they drank beverages and waited for the dishes to arrive.

Later on, one of the girlfriends, quite excited, kept calling out to drink alcohol.

Qian Yue Mei disagreed: ”What if us girls get drunk? Moreover, we have to work tomorrow. No, we can’t do that.”

The girlfriend laughed: ”What are you afraid of? If we get drunk, your boyfriend can pick you up. Besides, it’s not far from the house you rent, and we all have boyfriends. They can pick us up if needed.”

Qian Yue Mei couldn’t win against her friend, so she had to agree, but she only allowed everyone to drink one bottle of alcohol; any more than that was not allowed.

That girlfriend opened a bottle and started filling everyone’s glasses.

As the dishes arrived, everyone ate, drank, and chatted, gradually drinking a bit too much.

Qian Yue Mei felt dizzy from the alcohol, trying to shake her head sharply, but the more she shook, the dizzier she felt.

She stood up: ”I’m going to the restroom.”

The girlfriend who suggested drinking also stood up: ”Let me go with you.”

Both went to the restroom together, but when Qian Yue Mei came out, she did not see her friend and waited by the sink for a while. Still, her friend did not appear.

She became anxious and started searching every individual stall.

Due to her urgency and fast pace, Qian Yue Mei felt even dizzier.

She swayed her head, splashed water on her face, but still felt groggy and her legs seemed so weak that she could hardly stand steadily.

Qian Yue Mei washed her face at the sink, trying to sober up.

But when she looked up, she saw her own reflection in the mirror was blurry: ”How come I can’t hold my liquor?”

She shook her head and then collapsed to the ground with a thud.

Just as she fell, a tall and strong man came over and lifted her towards the back door.

At the rear door of the hot pot restaurant, Su Leqing was sitting in a car, watching from a distance as two men carried Qian Yue Mei out the back door and pushed her into a car. She smiled smugly: ”Enjoy yourself. I refuse to believe that Zhou Zhigang would still want you after you become damaged goods.”

Watching the car drive away, Su Leqing then drove off.

But little did she know, her actions had already been noticed by someone.

Zhou Zhigang knew that Qian Yue Mei was going to treat her friends today, so he went home without waiting for her and cooked himself a bowl of noodles.

After dinner, Zhou Zhigang checked the time and saw it was still early, so he turned on the TV to watch for a while.

But the more he watched, the more uneasy he felt.

He always had this ominous premonition, as if something bad was going to happen to Qian Yue Mei.

Zhou Zhigang couldn’t help thinking of what Zhou Zhiyan had told him; that Miss Su was not a good person and might harm Qian Yue Mei.

With this thought, Zhou Zhigang became even more restless.

He stood up, walked around the living room a few times, checked the time again, and then took out his phone to call Qian Yue Mei.

Qian Yue Mei didn’t take her bag with her because she felt dizzy when she went to the restroom. Her cell phone rang inside her bag, and one of her girlfriends answered: ”Hello, are you looking for Yue Mei? She’s gone to the restroom and will be back in a minute. I’ll let her return your call when she gets back.”

Zhou Zhigang let out a sigh of relief after hanging up the phone, and couldn’t help but wonder if he was just being paranoid.

But just as he started to relax, his phone rang again.

Upon answering, he heard a very mechanical voice: ”Zhou Zhigang, I know you and Qian Yue Mei. I just saw her being taken away by two men at the back door of the hot pot restaurant. I am tracking the car they’re in. You need to come over quickly...”

Zhou Zhigang was startled.

He instinctively wanted to head out.

But he feared this might be a scam.

So, he called Qian Yue Mei’s cell phone again.

”What, she’s still in the restroom? Could you all help check...”

The girlfriend took her phone and ran to the restroom. After looking everywhere, she didn’t find Qian Yue Mei: ”Brother Zhou, we can’t find Sister Yue Mei...”

Zhou Zhigang’s heart pounded with fear.

He was completely at a loss now.

He didn’t know whether the mechanical voice was benign or malicious, and he wasn’t sure if he could trust it.

But if he didn’t trust it and didn’t act according to the instructions, Qian Yue Mei could be in danger.

Zhou Zhigang couldn’t worry about that now; he grabbed a jacket and ran outside.

Just as he reached the ground floor, he saw a car parked there.

”Did you call for a ride just now?”

The driver popped his head out and asked Zhou Zhigang.

Zhou Zhigang couldn’t deal with too much right now and just nodded: ”Yes.”

He had just gotten into the car when another call came in.

He hurriedly answered, and it was that mechanical voice again: ”A ride-hailing car has already been arranged for you. Now, have the driver follow my directions.”

Zhou Zhigang quickly relayed the directions to the driver. He didn’t dare to hang up now, afraid of missing something.

But still, he felt uneasy.

He patted his pocket and luckily found an old mobile phone.

This old mobile phone belonged to Zhou Zhiyan, who had earned some money from a part-time job a while ago, and Qian Yue Mei had insisted she buy a new phone.

Qian Yue Mei felt the old phone Zhou Zhiyan was using was too shabby and that using it at school might be looked down upon by others.

She had always strived to make Zhou Zhiyan appear more presentable.

Initially reluctant to spend the money, Zhou Zhiyan gave in to Qian’s insistence and bought a new phone.

Just in time, a senior at school had been pursuing Zhou Zhiyan, bombarding her daily with calls and messages on Flying Messenger, to the point where she became so annoyed that she changed her number altogether. The SIM card of the old phone, with some remaining credit, was left untouched, so she simply handed the phone over to Zhou Zhigang for his use.

After Zhou Zhigang answered one call from that senior, the calls ceased.

Finding the old phone, Zhou Zhigang felt a surge of relief and simultaneously took the call while texting Zhou Zhiyan: ”Your sister-in-law might be in danger. You mentioned last time one of your classmates comes from an influential family. Could you ask her for help to rescue your sister-in-law?”

When Zhou Zhiyan received the message, she didn’t know what Zhou Zhigang was currently doing or if he was in danger, so she didn’t dare to call him.

She was supposed to be studying, but she couldn’t focus anymore. She put her book down and went to look for Xiao Keke.

Fortunately, Xiao Keke was at school. She shared a dorm with Zhou Zhiyan, who just had to call out for her to hear.

Xiao Keke was chatting with someone on the balcony when she heard Zhou Zhiyan calling her, so she hung up the phone and went inside.

”Yanyan, what’s wrong?”

Zhou Zhiyan was almost in tears as she grabbed Xiao Keke’s hand: ”Ke’er, I, my brother just texted me saying my sister-in-law is in danger. I, I beg of you to help find her. I’ll do anything to save my sister-in-law.”

Zhou Zhiyan and Qian Yue Mei were very close, having grown up together like sisters rather than in-laws. Now that Qian Yue Mei was in trouble, Zhou Zhiyan’s anxiety was every bit as intense as Zhou Zhigang’s.
