The Comeback of the Cannon-Fodder Supporting Actress

Chapter 227: Chapter 225: Slapping the Reborn Apocalyptic Woman 6

Anning received a call from the public security bureau and immediately took Jixiang and Ruyi in a cab to get there.

When they arrived, Tang Chunhua was curled up in a ball, crying, and her husband sat beside her, wanting but not daring to smoke.

Seeing Anning come, a look of shame appeared on Tang Chunhua’s face.

Anning approached with a cold expression, ignoring Tang Chunhua, and instead asked the policewoman, ”Comrade police officer, has my bracelet been found?”

The policewoman shook her head, ”Tang Chunhua claimed she had not seen the person’s true face, everything was communicated through phone calls, and that person used a public telephone.”

Anning frowned.

She looked at Tang Chunhua, ”Auntie, think carefully about how that person spoke, did she reveal anything?”

Tang Chunhua couldn’t recall anything.

She shook her head, ”Anning, don’t blame your aunt, I had no choice, if I hadn’t done this, your brother’s marriage would’ve fallen apart.”

Anning didn’t respond to Tang Chunhua, but instead turned to speak with the policewoman, ”Is it possible to trace the bank transaction records to see the source of that money?”

The policewoman seemed troubled, ”We checked, and it was an overseas remittance.”

Anning’s brows knitted tightly, she turned to look at Tang Chunhua, ”Auntie, since coming to the Capital, you and uncle have taken great care of us. I trusted and am grateful to you. But, you, you stole my bracelet. Do you know what that bracelet means to me? It was left to me by my mother; I don’t even remember what my mom looked like. When I miss my mom, I would take out this bracelet and look at it. Now, I’ve lost the only memory I had.”

Anning was speaking and started to cry.

She squatted down in front of Tang Chunhua, ”Please think about it, can’t you? I can let go of the money; I just want my bracelet back. You... if you were in trouble, you could have talked to me. We’re family; I would always think of ways to help. But you, you stole my half-life over just a few words from a stranger, you...”

Anning grew more agitated as she spoke, reaching out to vigorously shake Tang Chunhua, ”How could you do such a thing, how could you?”

The policewoman, seeing Anning cry so hard, felt sorry for her.

But this was the public security bureau; she couldn’t just watch Anning and Tang Chunhua come to blows.

She quickly stepped in to pull Anning away, ”Calm down a bit, no matter how agitated you are, it’s useless. What’s most important now is to find clues...”

Anning bit down hard, ”Comrade police officer, if you can’t find the clues then I will find them myself. I don’t believe I can’t dig out that person even if I have to dig three feet into the ground.”

She showed a determination to sink the ships and break the cauldrons, ”To find my bracelet, I sold my house in Qing City, even took a leave of absence from school. I won’t stop until I get it back.”

She looked angrily at Tang Chunhua, ”Auntie, do you know? You coveted that million and sold the bracelet to someone else, but I have to spend two million, three million, or even more to get it back. For that, I might even have to take a few years off school; this loss is not something that can be measured in money.”

”Don’t be angry, Anning. Your aunt is wrong, I will discipline her. This matter, she’s wrong, we’ll help you find it.”

Tang Chunhua’s husband stood up at this point, his words sounded especially nice, but he made no mention of the money.

If they really knew they were wrong, they should return that million.

Clearly, both husband and wife were never content with what they had.

Anning scoffed coldly, speaking to the policewoman, ”Tang Chunhua committed grand larceny, with the person and evidence both accounted for, they’ve admitted to it, the case should be able to close, right?”

The policewoman nodded.

Anning then said, ”I won’t accept a private settlement, let the judgement be as it may be, I leave it to the law to decide.”

”Okay.”

The policewoman agreed with a nod.

Anning told Tang Chunhua, ”You have to pay the price for your greed, and from now on, our family ties are severed. As for that million, I don’t want it, consider it payment for taking care of me these past two years. But from now on, I will no longer recognize you, even if we meet, I’ll treat you as a stranger.”

Having said her piece, Anning turned with Jixiang and Ruyi and left.

Her departure was clean and decisive, clearly showing she had made her decision.

Leaving the public security bureau, Anning called An Xin, ”From now on, we must closely monitor every move of Su Leqing; don’t miss a thing.”

An Xin responded cheerfully, ”You can count on me.”

She then asked Anning, ”What do we do next?”

Anning smiled inwardly, ”Keep acting.”

Afterward, Anning returned to the hotel with Jixiang and Ruyi. They holed up in the hotel for three days and didn’t go out, even ordering take-out for meals.

After three days, Anning left the hotel looking haggard.

She entrusted Jixiang and Ruyi to the care of a classmate whose family was in the Capital, while she went alone to the entrance of a villa complex.

Su Peng had been following the news these past few days.

He kept an eye on newspaper, television, and various online news.

As the date Su Leqing had mentioned approached, he too began to get nervous.

That morning, Su Peng saw a piece of news on his phone.

It was news of an airline disaster.

The report matched exactly what Su Leqing had described, not just the flight number, but even the time of disappearance.

Thus, Su Peng couldn’t help but start to believe what Su Leqing had said.

He hurried back home and made a call to Su Leqing.

Su Leqing had been eagerly awaiting this day.

Returning home triumphantly, she asked Su Peng, ”Dad, you believe me now, don’t you?”

Su Peng’s face was somber.

He was struggling to cope with the news of the apocalypse.

”Lele, what should we do?”

He then asked, ”Will dad have a superpower? Is it possible for a Superpower User to emerge from our family?”

Su Leqing shook her head, ”In my dreams, neither dad nor mom had superpowers, and our family isn’t the only one; the Xiao Family also didn’t have a single Superpower User. After the apocalypse, we fell into the bottom rungs of society.”

Despite his mental preparation, Su Peng still felt a wave of distress upon hearing this.

Their Su family’s business had been doing well over the years, life had been smooth sailing, and they were considered among the city’s elite. Used to being high above, the prospect of falling to the dregs of society was unbearable.

Su Peng dared not even imagine what life would be like then.

He looked earnestly at Su Leqing, ”Lele, come up with a plan. What should we do?”

Su Leqing was particularly pleased and happy, ”Dad, the first thing we need to do is call off the engagement with the Xiao Family. I know about the mightiest person of the apocalypse; he’s having a tough time right now. We should extend our warmth and I want to get close to him. If I can make him fall for me, he will protect us when the apocalypse comes.”

Su Peng nodded, ”Since the Xiao Family is no longer of any use to us, there’s no harm in breaking off the marriage.”
