Journey to Planar World

There was an ”angel” who lived among the students of Seijo High School.

Of course, that title was merely an exaggerated, metaphorical expression; she remained a real human being treading the earth. However, this girl possessed an appearance, an aura, and a status that were more than enough for the student body at large to use the metaphor without any hesitation.

In other words, she was so beautiful, charming, and possessed a dignity refined enough to be mistaken for an actual angel descended from the heavens.

The girl dubbed the angel was named Shiina Mahiru.

She was the embodiment of mortal perfection; excelling in academics, dominating in sports, and possessing a stunning visage.

Above all these achievements, the most captivating thing about her was her humble, non-discriminatory, and unpretentious personality.

It was these traits that made her a beautiful girl who was, of course, entirely worthy of being revered as an angel by everyone.

Mahiru’s long, slender, and straight hair gleamed with a captivating blonde hue, reflecting a subtle sheen that evidenced extraordinarily meticulous care. Her skin was flawlessly clean like expensive porcelain, radiating a feminine sensuality that was soft yet modest.

If someone were to gaze closely at her face, they would realize that her beauty was almost unreal, resembling a porcelain doll sculpted with a high level of precision.

”Is that... Shiina Mahiru...?”

On a gloomy afternoon on a rainy day, Fujimiya Amane halted his steps.

Holding an umbrella that shielded him from the falling drops, he stood frozen at the edge of a city park.

His eyes stared straight toward the figure of Mahiru sitting alone on a swing, allowing the cold rainwater to drench her entire body and clothes without making any effort to avoid it.

Despite witnessing such a peculiar sight, to Amane—just as it was for many other male high school students—Mahiru remained a figure of beauty high up in the clouds, far too unreachable to grasp.

The most common sight seen at school was arrogant, foolish people who did not know their place attempting to express their feelings to Mahiru. They came with confidence, ready to be rejected, only to then be crushed by a subtle yet absolute refusal from the angel, subsequently leaving while groaning in pain from wounded pride.

To others, including Amane, Mahiru was more an object of admiration that could only be marveled at from a distance, not something to be plucked, approached, or touched by the hands of an ordinary human.

At most, the relationship between Amane and Mahiru up until now had been extremely limited. They merely exchanged light, formal nods when occasionally passing each other in the common areas of the apartment building where they lived.

Amane had always thought that contact between them would never cross into a closer boundary than that, neither now nor in the distant future.

Because of this, his common sense rejected what he was seeing right now.

Who could have imagined that the perfect Shiina Mahiru would sit on a park swing without carrying an umbrella in the middle of a heavy downpour drenching the city?

However, Amane soon shook his head. He and Mahiru had no relationship whatsoever other than the fact that they were neighbors in the same apartment building.

Based on his principles of life, it would be far better to avoid unnecessary involvement with other people’s affairs. After all, he himself was the type of teenager who did not want to get too deeply involved with others or step into a vortex of trouble.

As Amane solidified his intention and was about to slip away past the park, he cast his eyes once more toward the swing. However, the sight before him caused his heart to beat strangely.

Mahiru, who was supposed to be there just a few seconds ago, was gone. The swing was empty, swaying gently only from the buffeting of the wind and rain.

”Huh? Did I see wrong?”

Amane rubbed his eyes, which were slightly wet from the splashing water.

He truly did not mean to harbor any special interest in Mahiru.

Nor did he have the slightest intention of crushing on her like the cliché behavior of the male students at school.

But had his brain subconsciously become so aware of the girl’s existence that he experienced a visual hallucination of an angel standing at the park swing during a heavy rain?

He reassured himself: he had no relationship with Mahiru and had no intention of getting involved with her from the beginning.

In the end, Amane decided to dismiss what he had just seen as a mere optical illusion caused by fatigue, and immediately strode away from the park without looking back again.

The one thing Amane never knew at that exact second was that his vision was not a hallucination at all. And with his footsteps continually moving away, he had just missed a massive stroke of destiny that was supposed to alter his entire life line.

”Hello? May I ask for an address?”

Just as Amane had walked a few steps away from the park area, an unfamiliar and melodious voice halted his movement.

When he turned around, he came face-to-face with a mixed Japanese-Russian girl who possessed extraordinary beauty, the kind of beauty that seemed to come from an entirely different world.

The girl’s hair was an exotic brownish-blonde, falling in soft waves past her slender shoulders. Beneath a clear forehead, a pair of clear blue eyes the color of a bright summer sky stared straight toward Amane.

The corners of those eyes turned down slightly, giving a soft, droopy impression that was incredibly adorable, as if she were a princess who had just awoken from a deep afternoon nap.

Her gaze felt intensely friendly, always harboring a genuine, playful spark—the lethal kind of gaze that could make any male student suddenly forget how to breathe if they crossed paths by chance on the street.

”Hello. My name is Elena Petrova. I just arrived in Japan, and it seems I’m lost. Could you help me find this hotel?”

Elena smiled warmly while waving her small hand in front of Amane’s face, which at that moment was frozen still with a dazed expression.

(Dammit, what am I doing?! Wake up, Amane!)

Amane scolded himself very harshly in his mind, feeling immensely embarrassed for showing such a stupid reaction like a pervert stunned by a beautiful woman.

(This is truly embarrassing! This isn’t the first time I’ve seen a beautiful woman resembling an Angel in this world. First there was Shiina Mahiru, and now there is this foreign girl. Why is your mentality so weak just from seeing a pretty face, huh? Hide that stupid expression right this instant!)

After successfully regaining control over his facial expression, Amane cleared his throat lightly to cover his nervousness. He glanced at the paper or phone screen that Elena might be showing, then nodded slowly.

”Ah... yes, of course. It just so happens the area around here is quite confusing for someone coming for the first time.” Amane tried to sound as warm and normal as possible even though the rain was still drizzling around them. ”The hotel building isn’t too far from the main road up ahead. I can escort you as far as the turn over there so you won’t get lost again.”

Hearing that response, Elena’s face instantly brightened, displaying a sincere smile that made the playful spark in her eyes appear even more alive.

”Wow, really? Thank you so much! You are truly my savior.” Elena said full of gratitude, her voice sounding crisp amidst the sound of the pattering rain.

”It’s no big deal, let’s go this way.” Amane replied briefly.

With synchronized footsteps, the two then walked side-by-side leaving the area around the city park, parting through the wet streets toward the center of the district, completely unaware that an entirely new plot of destiny had just locked their steps.
