Journey to Planar World

The four pages released by Apocalypse drifted in the center of the room, emitting a dim glow that displayed line after line of information, making the atmosphere in the Void Sanctuary even more chilling.

In Chair IX, Frank narrowed his eyes, staring intensely at the second sheet with an expression of complete astonishment.

”This is the first time an Abyssal Devourer: Phenomenon Type has appeared.”

”Seeing as the recommendation requires four people to handle it, this is clearly an extremely troublesome opponent.”

Compared to Frank, who focused on analyzing the new enemy type, Kazuya paid attention to a more crucial issue within the numbers. He slammed the table slightly, drawing everyone’s attention.

”Hey, have you all noticed? The Quest difficulty this time is far more dangerous than before!” he exclaimed urgently. ”Look at the total participation recommendation—fifteen people! Meanwhile, there are only nine of us here!”

The implication was laid bare before their eyes. They were significantly short-staffed, which meant the workload and risk of death for every individual had increased drastically. Even a small mistake could mean total failure.

Alaya, who had been standing silent until then, finally spoke. Her tone was flat, cold, and utterly apathetic.

”That concern is irrelevant.”

”Since the moment you were summoned to the Void Sanctuary as Saviors, the protocol has been clear: every Quest given will always possess a higher difficulty level than the previous one.”

She paused for a moment, her hollow gaze sweeping across everyone at the table.

”Becoming stronger is not an option; it is a necessity. For anyone who chooses to stagnate and stop growing, the result is only one: elimination.”

”Death is the consequence for those unable to keep up.”

Seeing the atmosphere grow increasingly tense due to Alaya’s cruel words, Gaia immediately stepped forward. She put on a look of concern, trying to comfort the Saviors with a far warmer tone.

”Uuu... Alaya, don’t scare them so much.” She protested before turning to face the Saviors. ”I know you must be anxious, and believe me, I have absolutely no desire to plunge you into a dangerous Quest if there were any other choice.”

Gaia gave a thin, sincere smile, attempting to channel a bit of tranquility.

”The recommended number of participants is assessed based on your strength in real-time. So, even though the numbers look unbalanced, it does not mean it’s impossible to complete.”

”I believe you can win. As long as you don’t act recklessly and continue to work together, you will return safely. I’ll be waiting for you here, okay?”

Gaia’s words of comfort slightly steadied the Saviors’ frayed nerves, but not for Charlie. He remained motionless in his chair, drowned in his own thoughts.

(Haaah... Based on the usual routine, since I’m considered the strongest here, I’ll definitely be told to take the most dangerous Quest.)

Thinking of this, there was a small flicker of hope in his heart that the eight other Saviors would soon surpass his strength. That way, he wouldn’t always have to risk his life on the very front lines every time an anomaly appeared.

Thus, Charlie remained silent, becoming an observer as his eight comrades began a heated debate over the division of tasks.

Quests 2 and 3 were not popular at all; the risk of losing an ability or becoming permanently impotent was too high a price to pay. They scrambled against each other for the right to carry out Quests 1 and 4, which were considered much safer.

Unfortunately, even though half an hour had passed, an agreement was nowhere in sight.

After all, though they could be considered colleagues, the relationship between them was very limited. There was no reason for anyone to give in and let others take the Quests with a higher chance of survival.

Alaya, who had been watching in silence, finally lost her patience. The atmosphere in the room suddenly froze as she spoke up.

”Enough. If you cannot decide, then I shall determine the Quests you undertake.”

Her cold voice cut through all the arguments.

”Quest 1 is assigned to Charlie Avalon and Elena Petrova.”

”...?”

Hearing his name called, Charlie was stunned. He hadn’t expected to get one of the ”easy” Quests, especially since his mind had been prepared to be forced into the nightmare of Quest 2.

Ignoring the protesting glares from the other Saviors who felt this division was unfair, Alaya continued her instructions without pause.

”Quest 2 is assigned to Wang Jian, Oscar Leung, and Frank Günther.”

”Quest 3 is assigned to Fujita Kazuya and Farah Nadia.”

”Quest 4 is assigned to Miguel Antonio and Valentina Claire.”

”That is all. Go.”

After finishing her sentence in a single breath, Alaya waved her hand in a sweeping motion.

*SRING!*

Instantly, the inter-world teleportation process began. The bodies of the nine Saviors began to glow, slowly becoming transparent as light particles began to envelop them.

Gaia joined in, waving her hand enthusiastically, trying to give a warm farewell amidst the dimensional transfer process.

”Even though the selection this time is a bit different than usual, don’t let it disturb your focus!” she cried out encouragingly. ”I truly hope you succeed and return safely. Remember, in your home worlds, there are people waiting for your return. Don’t make them wait too long!”

That simple sentence proved effective. The fighting spirit that had briefly sagged due to fear flared back to life in the Saviors’ eyes.

Wang Jian immediately remembered his two wives, Fujiwara Moeha and Tsubame Koyasu. The images of the two girls’ faces, as well as the two babies they had just brought into the world, flashed through his mind. A steely resolve emerged; he had to return, no matter the stakes.

The other Saviors felt the same. Behind the extraordinary strength they possessed, they remained humans who had anchors for their hearts in their home worlds.

With the light growing ever brighter, their consciousness was pulled out of the Void Sanctuary, toward the battlefields that awaited them.
