Sweet Rebirth: The Little Healer

When Little Red Carp heard her sister, she actually thought what she said made a lot of sense. So, she nodded and said, “Sister, you’re right. What I’m doing is indeed improper, so I’ve decided…”

Zhao Nuanyue looked at Little Red Carp hopefully, wishing she would say what she wanted to hear.

“Decided what?” Zhao Nuanyue asked. “Decided to be a good girl from now on and not peep anymore?”

“Hehe!” Little Red Carp giggled like a cunning little fox. “Sister, you know I have a good quality—you could even call it a good habit. As long as I get to eat something delicious, I’ll be in a great mood and won’t have the energy to peep.”

Hearing this, Zhao Nuanyue froze. This little imp was actually trying to bargain with her. She stood up, glaring at Little Red Carp, and said, “You little tormentor! Fine. You love cake the most. When your brother-in-law goes to work, I’ll have him bring some back for you. That should be enough, right?”

“Mhm, mhm, of course!” Little Red Carp beamed, her eyes crinkling with joy. “At night, I’ll definitely be sleeping soundly. I won’t have time to peep!”

Seeing Little Red Carp agree, Zhao Nuanyue finally felt relieved.

The thought of a pair of big eyes staring at her whenever she and Hua Yusen were doing… *those things*… was enough to kill the mood completely. For the sake of her future happiness, Zhao Nuanyue knew she had to appease Little Red Carp and not let the little rascal do as she pleased.

Fortunately, Little Red Carp’s goal wasn’t to watch for the sake of watching; she just thought it was fun. Now that she was promised delicious food, she would definitely keep her word.

“Little Red Carp is someone who always keeps her promises. Alright, your brother-in-law has already made breakfast. Let’s go eat together,” Zhao Nuanyue said with a light chuckle. Then, she took some clean clothes from the wardrobe and helped Little Red Carp get dressed.

“Huh?” Little Red Carp was stunned, her mouth hanging open. “Brother-in-law knows how to cook? He’s not just going to waste a bunch of ingredients, is he?”

Zhao Nuanyue tweaked Little Red Carp’s nose and chuckled. “You shouldn’t underestimate your brother-in-law. His cooking might not look pretty, but he uses plenty of oil, so it should taste good. Come on, he made your favorite boiled eggs and fried mantou.”

“Mhm, mhm, then I must go and pass judgment,” Little Red Carp said in all seriousness. “If it’s delicious, we’ll just let brother-in-law handle all the cooking from now on. That way, you won’t have to work so hard, Sister.”

Hearing this, Zhao Nuanyue couldn’t help but let out a delicate laugh.

“You! You’re such a little imp,” Zhao Nuanyue said, shaking her head with a laugh. “Alright, hurry up. I’ll take you to wash up.”

By the time Zhao Nuanyue had taken Little Red Carp to wash up and they arrived in the dining room, Hua Yusen had already finished making breakfast. Zhao Nuanyang was helping to serve the rice and get the chopsticks. As soon as Zhao Nuanyue and Little Red Carp came in, they could start eating.

Little Red Carp sniffed the toasty aroma of mantou in the air and declared confidently, “Sister, Brother, Brother-in-law, can we eat now?”

“Yes, we were just waiting for you and your sister,” Hua Yusen said with a smile. “Come, come, try my cooking. If it’s not good, I’ll do better next time.”

Little Red Carp picked up a piece of fried mantou and took a bite. Not bad. It was delicious.

“Crispy on the outside, tender on the inside. It tastes amazing.” Little Red Carp praised her brother-in-law’s fried mantou. “The congee is good too. Brother-in-law, you’re pretty impressive. My sister is going to have a blessed life.”

“Hehe!” Having won the approval of the hard-to-please Little Red Carp, Hua Yusen grinned. He looked at Zhao Nuanyue. “Nuanyue, Nuanyang, you two try some too. Let’s eat quickly. It’s almost time for work.”

“Thanks, brother-in-law,” Zhao Nuanyang said gratefully. Although Hua Yusen did all this willingly, he understood that his brother-in-law’s actions stemmed from his love for his sister and his care for their family.

Zhao Nuanyue didn’t say anything, but she savored the meal Hua Yusen had made. It was exceptionally delicious.

The food was filled not just with its own aroma, but also with the love from Hua Yusen’s heart, which moved Zhao Nuanyue deeply.

“It’s delicious, Hua. You should eat too,” Zhao Nuanyue said with a soft laugh. She then peeled an egg for Hua Yusen and placed it in his bowl.

Of course, she couldn’t forget her sister and brother. Zhao Nuanyang might not say anything, but that little girl Little Red Carp would surely start a rebellion.

Seeing that her sister wasn’t showing favoritism, Little Red Carp was very pleased.

After breakfast, Zhao Nuanyang left for his job at the museum. Little Red Carp was taken to school by her sister and brother-in-law.

“Nuanyue, I left in such a hurry last time that I didn’t get to say goodbye to Uncle Sun. I’ve already had Liu Jian prepare some gifts. I’d like to go with you to Immortal Grass Hall to apologize to your master and his wife in person.” Hua Yusen felt very guilty about not being able to hold their wedding as scheduled.

He didn’t need to make such gestures for others, but Sun Haoran and Madam Sun were elders who treated Zhao Nuanyue like one of their own, and Hua Yusen couldn’t neglect them.

Hearing Hua Yusen’s words, Zhao Nuanyue nodded and said, “Yes, we definitely should go see them. By the way, Hua, when did you get back? Have you been to the Huajia Old Mansion to see your family yet?”

Seeing the nervous look on Zhao Nuanyue’s face, Hua Yusen reached out and took her small hand, saying softly, “I got back at eight o’clock last night and went straight to Elder Gu’s to report on my work. It was already ten by the time I finished, so I came straight here.”

“So you haven’t been home yet?” Zhao Nuanyue asked, surprised. “If you came straight to my place, won’t your mother be angry?”

“You’re my wife. Wherever you are, that’s where I’ll be!” Hua Yusen said with a smile, not sharing Zhao Nuanyue’s concern. “Don’t overthink it. It was so late last night; going home then would have just disturbed them. This afternoon, we’ll go visit your master and his wife. Then, after you get off work tonight, I’ll get Nuanyang and Little Red Carp, and we’ll all go back to the old mansion together!”

“Bringing Nuanyang and Little Red Carp?” Zhao Nuanyue asked. “Will that be alright?”

“What’s not alright about it? We’ll all be family in the future,” Hua Yusen replied. “Besides, my parents are quite fond of Nuanyang and Little Red Carp, so you can stop letting your imagination run wild. Everyone in my family, from top to bottom, really likes you. Be more confident!”

Hearing Hua Yusen’s encouragement, Zhao Nuanyue’s mood truly did lift a little.

Although Zhao Nuanyue had worked hard and changed many things—not just about herself, but also about the people and circumstances around her for the better—she knew that deep down, because of the memories from her past life, she still felt a little insecure when facing Hua Yusen.

Zhao Nuanyue understood that this wasn’t her past life anymore, but that feeling would always surface unconsciously. However, she also knew it stemmed from a deep-seated lack of confidence. Zhao Nuanyue believed that with enough effort, she would definitely be able to overcome it.
