Sweet Rebirth: The Little Healer

Peering through the window, she saw it wasn’t yet light out. It was still early. That being the case, how could Zhao Nuanyue let such a beautiful moment go to waste?

So, Zhao Nuanyue closed her eyes, savoring Hua Yusen’s soothing touch…

Drowsy and exhausted, Zhao Nuanyue drifted off to sleep again.

‘I’m a little disgruntled,’ Zhao Nuanyue thought. ‘I exercise regularly now and I’m in excellent physical shape, so why can I never keep up with Hua Yusen in this department?’

After helping Zhao Nuanyue clean up, Hua Yusen got dressed and went out to exercise.

He went to the lakeside, settled into a horse stance, and went through a set of fist forms. Just then, Zhao Nuanyang also arrived at the lake and began practicing with his brother-in-law.

After finishing his set, Hua Yusen looked at Zhao Nuanyang and asked, “Nuanyang, your skills have improved by leaps and bounds! It’s clear you’ve been training very hard lately and have made a quantum leap!”

Back in Nianqiao Village, Zhao Nuanyue had made Zhao Nuanyang train with Hua Yusen for a while to build up his strength. But that was just for general fitness. Now, however, his punches whistled through the air with immense power. He was clearly on a completely different level than he had been in Nianqiao Village.

“Yeah, I’ve been persistent. It was only in the last two months that I really felt the change. It made me understand the principle of perseverance—that constant dripping wears away a stone. There are no shortcuts in martial arts!” Zhao Nuanyang said with a smile. Of course, he wouldn’t tell his brother-in-law the truth. The matter of the Little Red Carp was a secret only he and his sister knew. No third person could find out, not even his closest brother-in-law.

Hua Yusen clapped Zhao Nuanyang on the shoulder and said with a chuckle, “Nuanyang, you’re very talented. Keep it up. If you work hard, you’ll definitely surpass me one day and be able to protect everyone you want to protect!”

“I’ll work hard, brother-in-law!” Zhao Nuanyang nodded earnestly. His sister had always protected him in the past. Now, he wanted to be the one to protect her.

‘If even his formidable brother-in-law bullied his sister, Zhao Nuanyang was confident he could beat Hua Yusen.’

Hua Yusen looked at the smiling Zhao Nuanyang, completely oblivious to his thoughts—that the reason he was training so hard was to protect his sister and defeat him, her formidable brother-in-law.

“Alright, you keep practicing. I’m done for now. I’m going to make you all breakfast!” Hua Yusen said with a cheerful laugh, patting Zhao Nuanyang’s shoulder.

Normally, Zhao Nuanyue handled these chores, but she was tired today. As the one responsible, Hua Yusen naturally couldn’t bear to make her get up early.

“Thanks, brother-in-law!” Zhao Nuanyang was happy that Hua Yusen was taking the initiative to cook. It proved that his brother-in-law truly doted on his sister and was considerate of her. He even cared deeply for him and the Little Red Carp.

Hua Yusen went into the kitchen and started washing rice for congee. Then he spotted some cabbage in the corner. He washed it, planning to make some sweet and sour cabbage. There were eggs in the cabinet, so he boiled a few. There was also the seasoned dried radish that Zhao Nuanyue had prepared yesterday.

When Hua Yusen saw two leftover steamed buns, he sliced them up, poured oil into a pan, and started frying them.

Although the breakfast Hua Yusen made wasn’t much to look at, his skill with seasonings, learned from cooking with Zhao Nuanyue and the elders in Nianqiao Village, was precise, and it tasted excellent.

When Zhao Nuanyue woke up again, she saw it was already broad daylight. She scrambled out of bed. ‘My brother has to go to work soon, and the Little Red Carp has to go to school. I haven’t even started breakfast yet—will there be enough time?’

As Zhao Nuanyue hurried to get up, forcing herself to ignore the ache in her body, she threw on her clothes and rushed to the kitchen. There, she was stunned to see Hua Yusen frying slices of steamed bun. The SIZZLING sound, accompanied by a rich aroma, took her completely by surprise.

“Wow, Hua, I can’t believe you know how to make breakfast!” Zhao Nuanyue said, pleasantly surprised. In her past life, Hua Yusen had been a typical patriarch; though he doted on her, he never once set foot in the kitchen to cook for her.

Hearing Zhao Nuanyue’s voice, Hua Yusen looked up and saw her smiling face, her cheeks rosy and glowing.

“Heh, I learned a thing or two back in Nianqiao Village with you. It doesn’t taste great, and it isn’t pretty, but it should be edible,” Hua Yusen said with a light chuckle. Then, taking advantage of a pause, he leaned down to kiss Zhao Nuanyue’s forehead. “Nuanyue, go wash up. Oh, and wake up the Little Red Carp. Breakfast is almost ready.”

Zhao Nuanyue saw that Hua Yusen’s hands were a bit greasy, so he couldn’t hug her. She took the initiative, gave him a quick kiss, and then hurriedly hopped away.

“Okay, my dear husband.” Zhao Nuanyue gave a playful smile and then walked briskly to the Little Red Carp’s room.

Watching Zhao Nuanyue, who was like a nimble fawn in the woods, Hua Yusen smiled.

Zhao Nuanyue reached the Little Red Carp’s room and knocked softly on the door. “Little Red Carp, are you awake?”

The Little Red Carp’s voice came from inside: “Little Red Carp is not awake yet!”

‘That little imp, she’s joking again.’

‘How can she not be awake when she’s already talking?’

Zhao Nuanyue pushed the door open and went in. She saw the Little Red Carp lying in bed, looking listless. Worried, she quickly reached out to feel her forehead. There was no fever. So she asked again, “Little Red Carp, what’s wrong? Did you not sleep well last night?”

When the Little Red Carp saw her sister come in, she blinked her big eyes, gave Zhao Nuanyue a meaningful, head-to-toe look, and then said slyly, “Sister, were you and brother-in-law making a baby last night?”

“Huh?” Zhao Nuanyue froze for a moment, then instantly understood. The Little Red Carp must have used her Divine Sense last night to watch the R-rated scene she and Hua Yusen had put on. Her delicate little face instantly flushed crimson. “Little Red Carp, you… That’s something between adults. Only adults can do that. You’re a child, you shouldn’t watch.”

“But I’ve seen a lot before,” the Little Red Carp said with a frown. “And much more exciting moves than yours!”

Zhao Nuanyue was dumbfounded. She couldn’t say anything about the Little Red Carp’s past, but she couldn’t let this continue. However, the Little Red Carp wasn’t an ordinary child. Zhao Nuanyue thought for a moment, then said with a beaming smile, “Little Red Carp, promise your sister you won’t watch anymore, okay? It makes me shy, and it’ll make your brother-in-law shy too. Besides, you said it yourself. You’re the little sister-in-law, and he’s the big brother-in-law. Isn’t it improper for you to just watch whenever you want, without any reservations?”
