The Interstellar Queen of Scavengers

Chapter 1542: Chapter 1542: Reasons I Must Go

The news about the space rift wasn’t disclosed by the school, and such a secretive matter, most of the Alliance’s populace hasn’t heard of it.

Therefore, Ji You didn’t tell Xie Lingzhi, nor did she inform any other friends or relatives outside her classmates, especially Uncle Xie Yi and Grandma Jenny. They were old and couldn’t handle the shock. Last semester, Xie Chuanqiong and Lea went out on a mission and haven’t returned yet. Ji You and Xie Lingzhi teamed up to keep this from the two elders.

Until now, the two elders still don’t know that Xie Chuanqiong and Lea encountered a little accident.

Upon hearing Ji You’s words, Xie Lingzhi was slightly taken aback and asked, ”You’re going out again?”

Ji You nodded and said, ”I need to go on a mission with a few classmates.”

Xie Lingzhi immediately frowned upon hearing that and said, ”Going on a mission now? Do you really think you’re the strongest in the universe? Your rank of fourth in the second year is just average. Don’t go, stay at school.”

During this time, things have been turbulent everywhere. Even people who rarely watched the Alliance news channel knew that recently the entire Star Beast group was agitated. There were frequent cases of spaceships, floating cars, and even starships being attacked. There was even an entire planet attacked by the Star Beasts...

To run away from Lanyue Star in such a precarious situation, isn’t that courting death?

Xie Lingzhi strongly disapproved.

Ji You said, ”It’s a mission I must go on.”

Xie Lingzhi’s brow furrowed tightly upon hearing this. She paused for a moment and then asked, ”What kind of mission?” She originally didn’t want to ask, but this was Ji You, that shameless little dwarf... She couldn’t pretend not to know, nor could she stay calm and tell herself not to inquire.

The concern in Sister Lingzhi’s eyes was clear to Ji You. She thought for a moment and shook her head, saying, ”I don’t know what the mission is at the moment. We have to arrive at the place first, then the teacher will inform us.”

Xie Lingzhi lowered her eyes.

Ji You pursed her lips. She initially wanted to say it was about the space rift but held back. Sister Lingzhi, being someone who studies space science, would definitely know about space rifts. Telling her now would just unnecessarily increase her worry, wouldn’t it?

Xie Lingzhi glanced at Ji You and asked, ”Is the school forbidding you to say anything?”

Ji You shook her head and said, ”No, they’re not. Teacher Mu and Principal Hong never explicitly said we couldn’t tell our friends or family, so I suppose we can?”

Xie Lingzhi said, ”Then say it.”

Ji You thought for a moment and said, ”It’s a relatively risky but full of opportunities place.”

Xie Lingzhi’s heart suddenly skipped a beat. She looked up in surprise, frowning tightly, and said, ”It’s not the space rift, is it?”

Ji You: ”?!!!”

She guessed it just like that?

Ji You was a bit puzzled and asked, ”Sister Lingzhi, how did you know?”

Xie Lingzhi’s brow furrowed so tightly it could catch a fly. She didn’t answer immediately but pondered, and after a while, she raised her head and said, ”Do you know what the test question was that got me a spot to explore the Kunpeng Wormhole?”

Ji You: ”???”

Xie Lingzhi said with a steady gaze, ”The question was how to pinpoint a coordinate within a wormhole.”

Ji You: ”???”

A wormhole, to put it simply, is a narrow tunnel connecting two different spaces and times in the universe, or the space-time tubes connecting distant regions of the universe. For example, the jump points that now quickly shorten the time between several star systems were discovered through human exploration of wormholes. The emergence of jump points has greatly facilitated interstellar communication, especially the Light Speed Express built on these jump points, which has allowed for the rapid flow of goods. Like when Ji You shops on the Star Network and buys a physical item from the First Star System, the delivery can reach the Sixth Star System in just two or three days.

This speed is truly astonishing.

The knowledge of space science is vast and profound. Beyond that, Ji You knows nothing. When it comes to these profound mysteries of the universe, Ji You is completely ignorant and not interested in learning. She looked at Xie Lingzhi with a completely clueless expression, using an utterly goofy expression to convey to Xie Lingzhi that she really didn’t understand.

”Once inside the wormhole, everything is unknown. If you don’t have a precise exit coordinate, you might even be permanently lost inside.” As Xie Lingzhi spoke, she couldn’t help but frown and said, ”Strictly speaking, a space rift is also a wormhole. But it’s more special than a stable wormhole like Kunpeng Wormhole. It’s random, unpredictable... even the exit coordinates can’t be accurately pinpointed.”

Ji You’s eyes widened.

Xie Lingzhi glanced at her and said, ”Don’t stare at me with those ignorant big eyes. Don’t you know how ugly that looks? People who are ugly need to have self-awareness.”

Ji You grinned and laughed awkwardly.

Xie Lingzhi glared at her and said, ”Still don’t get it? If you go in, you might not get out, understand?”

Ji You finally understood, nodded, and said, ”Oh, I get it.”

Seeing her completely unfazed demeanor, Xie Lingzhi couldn’t help but scold more angrily: ”Don’t listen to those teachers and the school fooling you. Things like that, not to mention our school, even our Alliance can be unreliable at times. If something really happens to you in there, no one can help you.”

Ji You nodded and said, ”I understand. I know it’s very dangerous. The teachers didn’t hide it either; they told us all the risks.”

”And you’re still going?” Xie Lingzhi was about to explode with anger: ”Living’s not good enough for you? You’re already a standout in the Combat Department! You’ll have a bright future in the Military Department, so why take the risk? Why do something like this?” Why do you have to make me worry?

Xie Lingzhi didn’t say this last part.

Ji You went silent.

Xie Lingzhi glared at her, putting her hands on her hips, cursing: ”You’re such a fool, thinking just because you’ve gotten a bit stronger, you’re something special. There are many powerful people in this world, who do you think you are? Many strong people have died, haven’t they?”

Ji You: ”...”

Sister Lingzhi’s scolding mouth is certainly not pleasant.

Xie Lingzhi, seeing her expression, was even more enraged: ”You... you think just because you ranked fourth in the second year, you’re invincible and unstoppable? You didn’t even get first place; you’re just a weakling. I can’t even bear to hit you.”

Ji You whispered, ”I... I’m not just fourth, I’m ranked 100 in the whole United University.”

Xie Lingzhi ignored this useless remark, directly brushing it aside. She focused only on Ji You, her tone very firm: ”Don’t go, listen to me.”

Ji You was silent for a moment, then suddenly said, ”Sister Lingzhi, I have to go.”

Xie Lingzhi instantly frowned: ”You’re just not going to listen, are you?”

Ji You pursed her lips, her voice was soft, but her tone was extremely firm, ”I have a very important reason I have to go.”
