Armed Train in the Apocalypse

Chapter 349: Chapter 240: Cultivation Pod

The dark clouds and the water surface appeared bluish gray, clear and deep.

The rain threads pierced the ground like a thousand needles, accumulating a shallow layer of water on the rooftop.

”It’s been raining continuously, but the air feels much clearer than before the apocalypse.”

Su Huan gathered some rainwater and tidied her long hair as she sighed.

The factory director behind her sighed, ”The air tests conducted a few days ago showed that the various emissions from burning, industrial dust, carbon dioxide, and so on have decreased astonishingly, as if overnight we’ve regressed eighty years.”

Vice President Deng chuckled, ”Decades of governance didn’t work as well as this one night of rain.”

The factory director responded sternly, ”Old Deng, you can’t say it like that...”

”Alright, alright, I was just joking no need for a lecture.”

Su Huan looked up into the distance, the three concentric circles that appeared flat from the aerial view now became three-dimensional from this angle.

The carrier of the ”Floating Timber” wasn’t tall, approximately just over six meters, keeping consistent with the train’s height.

Compared to the forty-meter-tall Crown Pear trees, the cultivation chamber was just a shallow basin.

Moreover, the cultivation chamber currently only had a framework, with the surroundings being ”hollow,” resembling some kind of semi-finished construction.

Su Huan led a crowd over there bustlingly.

Getting closer, from the framework, one could see that the cultivation chamber was mostly flat, with the outermost circle consisting of three layers of equal-sized frameworks lined up like the Ancient Roman Colosseum.

The main internal structure was also three layers of concentric circles, becoming smaller the further down they went.

The main aim was to create a ”basin within a basin” to contain the root system of the Crown Pear trees.

If the entire basin were filled with soil, there would be no room for the power and maintenance systems.

Furthermore, the cultivation chamber’s power system had two sets, one for water and one for land.

This took up more space.

Su Huan stood on the steel frame and looked around.

There weren’t many people around the main body of the cultivation chamber; instead, more people were adjusting various scaffolds and cranes around the steel frame.

Another group gathered not far away, carrying curved segments of metal and placing them on the rooftop.

They looked similar to the circular rings of the steel frame under their feet.

But they were segmented.

Xiaoba sat in a wheelchair, manipulating these metal pieces to fit together, quickly forming a huge circular ring.

Su Huan jumped down from the steel frame, pointing towards Xiaoba with some confusion, ”Wasn’t the framework already decided? Why is Xiaoba still working on it?”

The factory director shifted slightly as Vice President Deng smiled sheepishly, ”I added the structure on my own initiative.”

When modifying the train, Vice President Deng often did this.

While working, he would frequently abandon the blueprints and add some equipment, but without exception, these additions had good results.

Like when escaping from underwater, it was thanks to the mechanical arm that Vice President Deng added at the last minute.

Su Huan was rather tolerant of this.

”Explain.”

”The principle is somewhat complex; it’s about adding a larger ring around the cultivation chamber to level it. With this thing, it can not only counteract winds and waves in advance but also greatly reduce the risk of capsizing.”

”After your team set off, there was a minor storm; the waves even hit the rooftop, and we felt it was unsafe.”

”The Crown Pear trees are simply too tall, and their lush branches catch the wind easily, so we hastily added this balancing device.”

Vice President Deng explained.

Su Huan nodded with satisfaction, ”How much longer until the cultivation chamber can be launched?”

The two exchanged glances, the factory director hesitated for a moment, ”Now that the framework is complete, the rest will depend on Yu Jing’s side and the speed of new material production.”

”Assuming the materials are ready, how long would it take for five thousand Evolvers to fully install it?”

Su Huan asked with concentration.

The factory director pondered for a moment and provided an accurate number, ”Five days, and it wouldn’t even require that many people.”

Su Huan was about to say something when she saw Professor Ma striding over, followed by Xiaozhao and the research team members running behind.

Raindrops hovered in midair, her sleek silver hair breaking through the water droplets.

She arrived in front of Su Huan with great urgency.

Su Huan sensed the old gentleman was bringing some bad news, so she took the initiative to ask.

”Is the equipment not working?”

”This supercomputer is sufficient to support a large base city.”

”So it’s broken?”

”No, it’s functioning normally.”

Su Huan hesitated, ”Then can we use it directly?”

Professor Ma shook his head, ”Not at the moment.”

Su Huan sighed helplessly, Director Xu was like this, Yu Jing was like this, even Professor Ma was like this, this group of people, once it came to professional issues, their brains became binary computers.

Only yes or no, they couldn’t even make turns.

”So we still need that data center, right?”

”Yes, once we equip this supercomputer with a data center, the previously slow progress in artificial intelligence and database issues will all be resolved, even for the next twenty years, we won’t be troubled by system and hardware problems.”

Professor Ma’s eyes were brimming with excitement, even the silver strands at his temples flying up didn’t concern him.

Su Huan sighed inwardly.

She originally wanted to slack off, but didn’t expect that she’d still have to go to that godforsaken place, Jingchao Lake!

However, Jingchao Lake was quite a distance from the center of Guan Chong City.

At the train’s slow sailing pace on water, it wasn’t a matter of a day or two to go back and forth.

If something like a ”deep sea worm” happened in the meantime, it could potentially take ten days to half a month.

There wasn’t much food reserved at the construction site either, making it prone to accidents.

Seeing Su Huan not responding for a long time, Professor Ma thought he had made things difficult for her and hurriedly tried to say something.

However, Su Huan interrupted, ”As long as Yu Jing’s side can manufacture the materials, the cultivation chamber should be ready to go into the water, right?”
