Armed Train in the Apocalypse

When the few people went upstairs, Li Han finally raised his head, his weary eyes filled with icy hatred.

Although the flood came somewhat abruptly, the terrain of the residents at Nanshan Heights was relatively high, so apart from the lowest few floors, most of them were unharmed.

Also, thanks to the habit of stockpiling food, just the food in his own home was enough to last a year.

Although there was some initial chaos, the number of survivors in the community was relatively large. A few Evolvers organized the residents into a temporary neighborhood committee, hunting zombies, distributing supplies, and such, which brought a sense of order to the whole building.

They even established contact with the building next door.

A rope was strung at a slightly lower place for exchanging necessities.

But it wasn’t long before a terrifying monster appeared in the water, with vines that could stretch over forty meters, dragging people under in an instant.

This incident had just passed when Li Han was awakened by a scream in the middle of the night.

Checking carefully, he discovered that somehow a zombie had entered the building opposite, slaughtering the residents inside crazily, leaving not even those hiding in their rooms unscathed.

The people, out of options, were forced to jump into the water from the windows, only to disappear one by one in the dark floodwaters.

Not a single person swam over.

That night, the entire building fell into unanimous silence.

After such an incident, Li Han no longer participated in the neighborhood committee’s activities.

After all, there was plenty of food at his home. With these supplies, he could survive as long as he stayed indoors.

But not long ago, a group of violent men appeared out of nowhere, overthrowing the neighborhood committee formed by the community residents, killing a few Evolvers, and then going door-to-door opening cans.

Without using any tools, they easily broke through ten centimeters thick anti-theft doors.

Even the community’s Evolvers couldn’t achieve this level of ability.

Moreover, they had guns, so the residents of the entire building instantly became lambs to the slaughter.

Dragging his stiff legs, Li Han headed upstairs, where quite a few people were already climbing up; fortunately, his home was on the sixteenth floor, so he only needed to climb halfway.

After finally reaching the top floor, several days of starvation had left him dizzy. He slumped in a corner.

The doors of a few rooms on the top floor were open, and through the windows, it was clear that the sky outside had darkened completely.

He didn’t know if it was his imagination, but he thought he heard the sound of boats passing below.

Li Han mocked himself internally; at such a time, he still hoped someone would come and rescue them—he must have lost his mind from hunger.

”No one is allowed to make a sound. Whoever dares utter a noise will be thrown downstairs, understood?!”

Someone inside shouted, and the people sitting in the stairway fell silent.

Inside the room, Chen Lei cast a gloomy look toward the hovering drone outside the window, ”When did those lunatics get such high-end equipment?”

A skinny middle-aged man glanced up, pondering, ”It might not be New Eden’s people; it could be an outside force.”

”You think, could it be…”

The skinny man’s mouth twitched, ”It’s definitely not someone from the organization, and even if it is, what can they do? The world is in chaos.”

Hearing this, Chen Lei felt somewhat calm.

He was about to speak when his gaze suddenly fixed outside the window, and he exclaimed in shock, ”What the hell is that?”

Two bright headlights pierced the darkness like swords, illuminating several blocks away, shining brighter than torches in this pitch-black world.

The skinny man stared in disbelief at the immense approaching object, ”Did they really drive a boat in?”

The Armed Corps train grew closer, and from their vantage point, the two of them finally discerned the overall shape of the armored train.

Two gray-white industrial-style carriages sandwiched a large deck, crowding the main downstairs road. Car windows, lit up, extended from the building downstairs to the distant buildings, stretching out of sight.

The sci-fi-like scene rendered the people upstairs stunned.

”If we board this ship, we can return!” the skinny man exclaimed with excitement.

”Return?” Chen Lei’s face twisted with excitement, ”If we take this thing by force, we can establish our place. Why would we return?”

”Take it?”

The skinny man looked at Chen Lei in bewilderment, then at the massive armored train and the indistinct figures in the windows.

Are you out of your mind?

Six people, and you want to take down something this big?

With that small handgun at your waist?

We can’t even board without their permission.

”I think Brother Lei makes sense. If we take this thing, we won’t have to live in fear anymore. We can load up on supplies, get some pretty women, and we brothers can live however we want!”

Another person suddenly agreed, eyes gleaming.

The skinny man was stunned.

Within three steps of a dragon, there must be a phoenix.

You dared to answer, didn’t you?

Are you out of your mind too?

Fortunately, the other three didn’t chime in, bringing some relief to the skinny man.

The skinny man hesitated, ”Brother Lei, maybe we should make contact first; if it’s feasible, we’ll take it. If not, then forget it…”

Chen Lei patted his shoulder, a trace of cunning greed in his eyes, ”Don’t worry, didn’t we six already take this building? As long as we take down the leader, the rest won’t dare make a peep!”

”Just watch!”

...

Inside the Armed Corps train, at the command deck.

Su Huan took the bracelet handed to him by the secretary, ”Did Director Xu explain how to use it?”

”There’s a magnet; it automatically attaches to your wrist. No charging needed; it absorbs the energy dissipating from your body surface daily.”

”Clap”

Su Huan snapped the black bracelet onto his wrist.

He turned to the people around him, ”So, is there any effect?”

Shu Wei’s eyes showed a trace of surprise. When Su Huan put on the bracelet, his entire aura instantly softened.

If the original Su Huan was akin to a tiger, merely standing there exuded a powerful biological magnetic field, making his presence felt even without seeing him.

That strength and beauty attracted those around instinctually at a genetic level.

But with the bracelet on, that biological magnetic field was disrupted.

It was as if turning from a tiger into a deer; although still present, that instinctual genetic attention vanished.

Shu Wei nodded, ”The effect is good, at least that sense of threat is gone.”

Su Huan turned to Yu Yue, fully armed with a sniper rifle, ”What do you think?”

Yu Yue tilted her head, ”Still seems pretty handsome, but not as addictive…”

Addictive…

Su Huan grinned, thinking he shouldn’t have asked her.

Through the panoramic screen at the train’s head, a group of people could be seen waving down below.

Shouting something.

Xiaozhao translated, ”Conductor, the people above want to invite you upstairs.”

Su Huan raised an eyebrow, ”Tell them to come down.”

Xiaozhao quickly relayed the message through the loudspeaker, then frowned and reported, ”They insist on you going up.”

Su Huan turned to Yu Yue, ”What’s the situation with the people upstairs?”

”Not well-intentioned.”

”Oh, have He Jie negotiate with them and invite them down for me.”

Five minutes later.

Chen Lei, the skinny man, and four others kneeled in a row on the armored train’s deck, each with a grenade stuffed in their mouth.

Li Han and the other survivors knelt behind them.

Armed Corps soldiers stood on either side, looking coldly at the crowd, all safety catches on their guns off, ready to execute at any moment.

He Jie paced the deck, lighting a cigar.

Seeing the cabin door open, he walked over quickly.

”Got rough?”

”No way, anything above 20mm is rough. This is at most finesse; when it comes to manners, who in the whole Armed Corps train knows better than me, He Jie?”

He Jie blew a smoke ring, speaking with pride.

Su Huan walked onto the deck, glanced at the six, and smiled, ”I am unworthy, the conductor of the Armed Corps train, who among you is in charge?”
