Armed Train in the Apocalypse

Chapter 347: Chapter 239: Tier 2 Advanced Materials

Seeing her hesitation, Hu cleared his throat softly.

The giraffe spectating from the side directly ”invited” her out.

The mongoose slightly furrowed her brow, but the conductor hadn’t questioned her, so she didn’t speak rashly.

Although the conductor’s words were somewhat sharp, the armored train had its own rules. If one wants to bypass the rules to achieve certain goals, they must be prepared for failure.

Moreover, the woman was not even considered one of the train’s people.

A casual ”serves you right” was already the best result.

But that doesn’t mean the mongoose would let Old Wu off the hook!

At this point, Su Huan turned to look at the mongoose, ”It’s your turn.”

The mongoose’s eyes flickered; instead of bringing up the already defined matter, she chose to stick to her previous statement, ”In any case, this is my task, he overstepped.”

”That makes a lot of sense.”

Su Huan showed an approving expression and smilingly looked at the crowd.

”Does anyone have any good suggestions?”

He Jie said sinisterly, ”How about we just castrate the boy directly.”

Old Wu immediately felt a chill in his groin and looked to Lao San for rescue.

Though Lao San had already cursed Old Wu thoroughly in his heart, as the head of the combat unit, he had to stand up to protect him when his subordinate hadn’t committed a principled mistake. Otherwise, who would follow him in the future?

So he said with a tough face, ”The conductor just said, even though there was no compensation, it wasn’t against the rules, and even if it was.”

”And the entire train is our combat unit’s maintenance area, there’s no such thing as overstepping.”

He Jie hummed ambiguously while looking at Lao San.

Others also expressed their opinions.

But none took either He Jie’s or Lao San’s side, remaining neutral.

Su Huan lightly tapped the sofa armrest with his forefinger, his gaze sweeping evenly over everyone’s faces.

He shaped a new class, blurring the pre-apocalyptic social hierarchy.

However, based on status, strength, boarding order, rank, and other factors on the train, a new hierarchy had been delineated.

He wasn’t trying to resolve the dispute between the mongoose and Old Wu.

He wasn’t that idle.

What he truly wanted to see was the attitude of the combat unit, the Armed Corps, and everyone else.

Confrontation or divergence!

This was important.

For now, it seemed He Jie was merely supporting his subordinates, his words not too harsh due to his position and deterrence over the combat unit.

If this could end here, the budding confrontation would have been stomped out by He Jie.

It was enough to resolve the conflict between the mongoose and Old Wu.

But Lao San’s words highlighted the real issue; whose authority was greater on the train?

If not handled well, it would be like planting a ticking time bomb.

The soldiers of the combat unit and Armed Corps would reflect on how the power of these two violent departments should be divided; who would handle it if a similar incident happened again?

After understanding this, Su Huan pondered, ”The combat unit does not equal the Law Enforcers; the combat unit’s task is to maintain train security, not to partake in management or reconnaissance, only to execute tasks based on orders. The Armed Corps likewise does not have this authority. On the train, you can restrain your own subordinates but do not have the authority to manage others.”

”Have I made this precondition clear enough?”

Combat departments are just for combat. If granted internal management authority, the combat unit would leap to the forefront of the four groups, far surpassing the other three in authority.

Currently, only the logistics group edges a bit into management, mostly coordinating with other groups and managing concrete affairs.

And not managing other groups, so no one felt it was unusual.

If a bunch of Law Enforcers suddenly popped up on the train, that would be uncomfortable.

As for specific management matters, of course, they should be in the hands of each unit’s conductors.

There may be a lot to handle, but the train is only so large, and the population has an upper limit, so it won’t be unmanageable.

Each department is relatively independent and doesn’t oversee each other.

This also avoids comical situations where the Jinyi Guard manages all officials, the Eastern Depot manages the Jinyi Guard, the Western Depot manages the Eastern Depot, and the Internal Depot manages both East and West Depot.

As long as he remains strong, far surpassing everyone else.

Give them enough pressure, and they will each do their own jobs.

Upon hearing Su Huan’s words, everyone seemed deep in thought.

The mongoose unwillingly nodded.

”Then the rest is between you and him, I can give you an opportunity, but not now.”

Su Huan said as he looked at the mongoose and Old Wu.

The mongoose’s eyes lit up, ”Great!”

This was the conductor she envisioned, fair and strong.

Old Wu, meeting Su Huan’s gaze, gritted his teeth and agreed.

”Alright, meeting adjourned!”

Su Huan waved his hand, and the mongoose and Old Wu retreated.

The director, Professor Ma, and others who had been waiting at the door walked in.

Compared to a few days ago, when they departed, the director appeared excited despite his messy hair.

Director Xu stood like a wax statue on the side, his eyes fixed one meter ahead, though his mind was lost in the lab, pondering some theoretical question.

Vice President Deng’s chubby face had slimmed down considerably, and even Professor Ma seemed a bit more imposing.

Evidently, the ”Floating Giant Wood” project had put a lot of pressure on them.

”By the way, where’s Yu Jing?”

Su Huan glanced around and asked.

Professor Ma replied, ”Earlier, we were discussing the lack of materials. Upon hearing that the train brought back a lot, she went to select some.”

Just as Su Huan was about to speak, a question came from outside the door.

”How was this thing made?”

Yu Jing, wearing an Engineer exoskeleton, walked in, carrying a tabletop-sized crab shell.

The crab claws were completely tucked into the shell, without any damage. The shell had a bluish-black sheen, like a massive piece of black jade, vividly lifelike.
