The woman’s heart cleared. She pressed her hand to her chest and cried.

Patient forty-seven changed things.

A man in his sixties. Old scars layered over older scars. His body was a map of dimensional damage accumulated over forty years of delving. Spinal displacement. Pathway scarring. Partial crystallization in three joints. Phased tissue in his left kidney.

Alvian started with the spine. Then the pathways. Then the joints. Then the kidney. Each dissolution-and-reformation cycle layered into the next, the array sustaining itself while his Clearwater resonance guided the process with increasing fluidity.

The healing took twenty-three minutes. The longest single treatment yet.

But something happened during those twenty-three minutes that Alvian felt rather than understood. His Molecular Forge proficiency, which had been sitting at Master threshold since yesterday, shifted. Not in numbers. In quality. The sustained, complex, multi-system healing pushed his understanding of creation past a point he hadn’t known existed.

[DING!]

[Creation Mastery milestone achieved]

[Multi-system biological reformation understood at foundational level]

[Evolution conditions fully satisfied]

[Proficiency: MASTER → MASTER (Complete)]

[Integration of new understanding: CONFIRMED]

[Multiplier requirement: ALREADY MET (2,800x Epic roll)]

[MOLECULAR FORGE EVOLUTION READY]

[Recommendation: Process during rest period to avoid mid-evolution vulnerability]

The notification wasn’t just blinking anymore. It was glowing steady gold, no longer asking for attention but demanding it.

Alvian finished the healing. The old delver stood up on legs that worked for the first time in a decade, pressed his hand to a kidney that no longer existed in two dimensions, and walked out without a word because some gratitude was too heavy for language.

”Done for today,” Alvian said.

Serah looked at him. ”The queue still has thirty critical cases.”

”I know. I’ll process the evolution tonight. If it does what I think it does, I can heal faster tomorrow. Maybe heal things I can’t heal now.”

”That’s a guess.”

”It’s an educated guess. I have been running scenarios since the evolution triggered. The probability of significant capability increase is above eighty percent.”

”Eighty percent leaves twenty percent of something else.”

”Twenty percent of no change or marginal change. Not twenty percent of things getting worse.”

Serah closed her pad. ”I’ll stay tonight. Monitor the evolution process. If something goes wrong with your Talent pathways, I can intervene with circuitry stabilization.”

”You don’t have to.”

”I know I don’t have to. I’m staying anyway.”

Tobias appeared at the entrance with food and a look that said he wasn’t leaving either.

”Someone needs to guard the door,” the old scavenger said. ”And someone needs to make sure you actually eat instead of processing the evolution on an empty stomach and dissolving yourself from the inside out.”

’Two people who don’t have to be here, staying anyway. The System said trust was the first half of the creation condition. Connection is the second half. Maybe this is what that looks like.’

Alvian sat on the floor beside the central focus. The crystal sphere pulsed with his heartbeat, steady and warm. The pylons hummed their complete chord. The copper channels glowed softly in the dim light.

He closed his eyes. The evolution notification filled his vision, patient and golden and waiting.

”Process,” he said.

The world went white.

[DING!]

[MOLECULAR FORGE EVOLUTION INITIATING]

[Estimated processing time: 4-6 hours]

[Host will be vulnerable during evolution. Do not move. Do not activate Skills. Do not die.]

Alvian felt his Talent pathways shift. Not painfully, not gently, but with the particular sensation of something fundamental being rearranged. His Clearwater resonance, which had been a steady background hum since the circuitry sessions weeks ago, began to stretch and change. New pathways opened. Old pathways widened. The dissolution energy that had been his primary tool for months began to take on a new quality.

Not just breaking down. Building up.

The evolution had begun.

The evolution took five hours and forty-three minutes.

Alvian sat motionless on the medical wing floor for the entire duration, his back against the central focus, his eyes closed, his body radiating a faint blue glow that pulsed in rhythm with the crystal sphere behind him. Serah monitored his Essence pathways with her circuitry pad, watching the data scroll past in patterns she had never seen before.

New pathways forming. Old pathways restructuring. The Clearwater channels that had been widened during their circuitry sessions were now being rebuilt entirely, their walls reinforced with a biological lattice that hadn’t existed in his body an hour ago.

Tobias sat by the door with his new arm resting on his knee, the crawler-crystal joints humming softly. He didn’t speak. He didn’t need to. His presence was the point.

At 3:17 AM, the glow faded. Alvian opened his eyes.

The world looked different.

Not visually. His eyesight was the same. But his perception of the world had shifted in a way that was hard to describe. He could feel the molecular structure of the floor beneath him. Not through Clearwater resonance. Not through the array. Through something new.

[Effect: The Host can disassemble and reassemble any material, including living tissue, at the molecular level. Living tissue created through Genesis Forge is fully viable, with functional Essence pathways, genetic integrity, and biological persistence. The Forge can create complete organs, limbs, or organisms from base molecular components.]

[Cost: 100-10,000 Essence per creation, scaling with complexity]

[Living tissue creation requires a Creation Wheel roll. Higher multipliers produce more robust biological results.]

[NEW SKILL ACQUIRED: GENESIS FORGE (S-RANK)]

[Molecular Forge absorbed into Genesis Forge]

Alvian read the notification three times.

Create living tissue. Not just heal. Create. From base molecules. From nothing.

He looked at his hands. They looked the same. Scarred, calloused, the hands of a boy who had spent months fighting and building and healing. But they felt different. The dissolution energy that had been his primary tool now carried a second current. Reformation. Not just breaking things down. Building things up.

”Alvian?” Serah was at his side, her pad scanning him frantically. ”Your Essence pathways just restructured. I’m seeing new channels that didn’t exist before. What happened?”

”Genesis Forge.”

”What?”

”The evolution. Molecular Forge became Genesis Forge. I can create living tissue now.”

Serah’s pen dropped. She picked it up. Dropped it again. Left it on the floor.

”Show me.”

Alvian looked around the chamber. He needed materials. Carbon. Iron. Copper. The Magnus Estate stockpile had everything he needed. He pulled a handful of iron filings from a nearby crate, a strip of copper wire, and a chunk of carbon from the construction materials Tobias had hauled in.

He activated Genesis Forge.

The sensation was different from Molecular Forge. The old Skill had felt like surgery, precise and clinical, breaking things down and putting them back together. Genesis Forge felt like breathing. Natural. Inevitable. His awareness plunged into the materials at the molecular level and he felt their structure, their bonds, their potential.

He didn’t force them together. He dissolved their boundaries and let them intermingle, then guided their reformation with an intention that went beyond molecular structure. He was creating something alive. Something that would grow and function and exist independently of him.

The materials shifted in his hands. Iron dissolved into component atoms. Copper dissolved. Carbon dissolved. The atomic soup swirled in his awareness, formless, waiting.

He gave it form.

A leaf.

Simple. Flat. Green. Chlorophyll in the cells, cellulose in the walls, the vascular structure of a plant leaf complete and functional. He felt the biological systems click into place one by one. Photosynthetic pathways. Water transport. Cellular respiration. Each component assembled from base atoms according to a template that his INT 214 held in perfect clarity.

The Creation Wheel spun.

[DING!]

[Genesis Forge use: Biological creation (leaf)]

[Creation EXP +50]

[Creation Wheel: Bronze-Bronze-Silver, 18X]

[Creation EXP: 900]

[Biological robustness: ADEQUATE]

He opened his hands.

A leaf sat on his palm. Green. Pliable. Alive.

Not a replica. Not a construct. A living leaf, with functional cells and working photosynthetic pathways and the cellular machinery of a living organism. When he held it up to the dim light of the medical wing, the chloroplasts activated. The leaf began photosynthesizing ambient Essence-conductive energy from the array’s field.

Whoosh. The sound was tiny, barely audible. The leaf breathing in its own small way.

Serah stared at the leaf. Her mouth was open. No sound came out.
