Rebirth: A Cinderella's Counterattack

Chapter 518: Chapter 498: Who is the person behind the scenes? (Part 11)

The next morning, Qin Nuan hitched a ride to the Luo Family’s home with Qin Wen, who normally had weekends off, but had to leave unexpectedly for a work commitment. After warning Qin Nuan not to go wandering off with Luo Qianqian, Qin Wen drove away without another glance at the gesticulating Qin Nuan.

Returning from his run, Luo Yanwu laughed as he saw Qin Nuan being cautioned by Qin Wen, noting that sibling relationships around the world shared the same dynamic.

”Good morning,” Luo Yanwu greeted warmly. ”Qianqian mentioned your birthday is coming up soon. What gift would you like? I’ll get it for you,” his tone clearly teasing.

”If you’re being so generous, I won’t turn it down. I’ve been eyeing that new product... which will probably sell well during the Qixi Festival,” Qin Nuan started off as if accepting since it was offered, then subtly reminded Luo Yanwu about the Qixi Festival.

Obviously wary that Luo Yanran might forget, and Luo Yanwu might also forget to buy a gift for Cong Rong, it was truly a concern.

”Thanks for the reminder,” Luo Yanwu smiled. Last night, Luo Qianqian had already reminded him, but he took this reminder to heart as well.

”Forget about my gift, as long as Qianqian remembers, that’s good enough, hehe.” After all, in the Luo Family, only Luo Qianqian and she were very close.

”Alright,” Luo Yanwu didn’t say much else. After all, this was his brother’s girlfriend and wishing her a happy birthday was enough. Who hasn’t had birthdays in the army that were simply celebrated with an extra bowl of noodles?

However, it seemed that around each of their birthdays, they always received some misshapen desserts shipped by Luo Qianqian.

After chatting briefly with Luo Yanwu, Qin Nuan entered the house. Yue Tingyu and Old Master Luo had gone out to buy groceries, as they always meticulously picked what to cook whenever their granddaughter was home.

Familiar with the house, Qin Nuan poured dog food for Baozi and then went upstairs without knocking, entering Luo Qianqian’s room only to find her sitting on the bed, hugging a pillow, her eyes weary.

Startled, she quickly stepped forward to adjust Luo Qianqian’s face, looking into her slightly reddened eyes, about to call for someone when she heard Luo Qianqian speak, ”You’re overthinking it, I just stayed up late thinking about things.”

”Thinking should not keep you from sleeping,” Qin Nuan frowned tightly, her face full of disapproval. ”Is it a relationship problem? Trouble with Xu Tianyi? Did he cheat? Or can you not contact him?”

With Qixi Festival approaching, Qin Nuan could only think of romantic issues.

Who knew Luo Qianqian would roll her eyes, ”Do I look like someone who would care about that sort of issue?”

”Then what are you thinking about?” Hearing that it wasn’t a romantic setback crushing her heart, Qin Nuan felt relieved, sat beside the bed, leaning the pillow against the headboard for Luo Qianqian to lean on.

”Our dorm is in a state of division right now, all because of distrust, right? That’s what these events are designed to do, right?” Luo Qianqian said, ”But what’s the use of us suspecting each other? How does it benefit anyone or distract attention from others? Should we only suspect people in the dorm?”

”Are you saying that someone wants to harm you, and to reduce suspicion from outsiders, they make us doubt and mistrust each other?” Qin Nuan was dumbfounded, although there had always been incidents of people targeting Luo Qianqian, each time they had managed to get through without harm. Moreover, if it came to a direct fight, Luo Qianqian might not necessarily lose.

”Moreover, with these things happening, it’s obvious that someone in our dorm is helping, so they still have a motive,” Qin Nuan continued.

”That’s not the issue, the issue is, what about me is worth making a move for? I have the Luo Family backing me, and I haven’t obtained any ancient maps or treasures, so what is there to scheme for? And as far as I can tell, the only person who would go to such lengths to plot against me and has the ability and financial power, seems to be... Xu Xiaoxiao.”

Luo Qianqian pursed her lips, yesterday Luo Yanwu’s words had given her many clues: ”But I don’t understand why they would go to such lengths to plot against the Cong Rong Family? My third brother said that the trouble for the Cong Rong Family was because someone here took action.”

”What?” Qin Nuan was also a bit stunned, the amount of information was too much, and she felt overwhelmed: ”Are you saying that Cong Rong actually went back because someone plotted against her?”

”It’s probably not just that,” Luo Qianqian sighed. ”Suddenly I feel so tired. I emailed my brother last night and he didn’t respond, don’t know if he’s also entangled in some matter. It feels like anyone connected to me ends up in bad situations.”

”Qianqian, let’s go over everything from the beginning,” Qin Nuan frowned. ”At first, Cao Yingying and I lost money, a total of twelve hundred, which was later found in Cao Yingying’s new shoes, and then there was medicine smeared on the money, which resulted in you spending a day in the medical office...” at this point, Qin Nuan extended her hand, the swelling on it had completely subsided: ”Then followed the incidents with nails, clothes, bags, notebooks, soymilk, and from Fang Rou we learned that they all had secrets, except for Zhang Yun and Xiu Ran whose secrets were relatively unimportant, for Cong Rong and Cao Yingying it was something serious that forced them to rush home. Then the four of us divided into three groups, but all coincidentally ended up in places not too far from the school. After we returned, you heard that someone from Capital City made a move to bring Cong Rong back? ... Wait, that’s not right, how did your third brother know about this? His sources shouldn’t be that restricted, should they?”

”Firstly, my third brother went to Second Uncle’s place, that’s how he knew. Secondly, don’t you know that basically, all second and third generation individuals aiming to advance in that direction are in my third brother’s circle?” Luo Qianqian curled her lips. ”His information isn’t extremely accurate, but it’s definitely not restricted. The future generation is essentially those people, okay?”

”Hey, you know quite a bit,” Qin Nuan chuckled, then became serious: ”So, you suspect Xu Xiaoxiao paid off Cao Yingying?”

”Why would it be Cao Yingying?” Luo Qianqian raised an eyebrow.

”She’s the only one who doesn’t get along with us, and besides, there really was an incident on Cong Rong’s side, right? And her brother has been ill for more than just a couple of days now, maybe she hastily asked for leave to avoid something?” Qin Nuan said earnestly, but soon she looked somewhat discouraged: ”I really want to say that, but her suspicion isn’t even as great as Zhang Yun and Xiu Ran’s.”

”Hehe, do you know what I’m afraid of?” Luo Qianqian shook her head, a look of bitterness on her face.

”Is it that Cong Rong might be using your third brother?” Qin Nuan naturally understood Luo Qianqian’s implication and sighed: ”Her suspicion is light but not completely absent, similar to Cao Yingying, possibly deliberately leaving. After all, for such a big issue, her going back wouldn’t really help.” Her face showed an indescribable discomfort; after all, they were roommates she had lived with for a year.

Cao Yingying, apart from being somewhat unfriendly, stingy, and always busy working, didn’t have too many faults and was quite studious; their relationship was relatively harmonious.

Cong Rong was the one she got along with best since she entered this dormitory.

Zhang Yun’s straightforwardness and liberality, Xiu Ran’s quiet and shy demeanor, were all traits of roommates she liked.

Yet, such incidents had happened.
