The Adventures of an Overpowered Knight in Another World

Chapter 699- The Man Loved By the Goddess

With that, this meeting was closed.

”Wait...” Odeth tried to say something. However, she was interrupted by Keal’Rhydon.

”Odeth, I am aware of your repeated interaction with this individual. You will not allow personal attachment to cloud your judgment. The only reason I have overlooked your past transgressions is because I know that you will not forget your position and commit a mistake. Odeth’Rhea... remember that you are a god and he is just a human”.

The weight of those words pressed through the entire space. Kael’Rhydon released his powerful aura, suppressing all dissent.

With that, he and the other gods left, leaving only the Goddess of Healing and Love and the other two Goddesses in the now empty hall.

Watching everything, Reinhardt made a complicated face. The more he watched the memory, the more complex and tangled his feelings became.

.

The vision shifted again. The divine hall dissolved into light. And in its place, a quiet, ordinary looking street within a capital city appeared.

Rain had just stopped falling. The air carried that faint freshness left behind after the outpour. Lantern light reflected softly off wet stone paths.

And sitting there on a street bench was Reinhardt’s other self. He was not in armor this time. He wore a simple casual outfit and strapped his beloved sword on his side.

It looked like he was waiting for someone. Soon, a woman approached him and sat by his side. Her presence was unremarkable at first glance; she was not overly beautiful, just a gentle, quiet girl with soft features and a calm expression.

Her appearance might have fooled others. However, Reinhardt, who was watching from within the memory, knew who she really was.

The Goddess of Healing and Love... Odeth’Rhea.

She had transformed her appearance and even suppressed her divine powers to appear before his other self. His disguise was so perfect that his other self she was simply an ordinary woman he had come to know over time. A friend and someone close.

”You have been sitting here the entire afternoon. Are you sulking?” The woman spoke with a slight smile. Her small gestures and cute personality instantly lifted his mood.

”I’m not the type to sulk.” Reinhardt’s other self shook his head.

”Really?” she brought her face closer.

”Then what have you been doing sitting here all this time?”

”Just thinking some things in my head.”

The two conversed. The atmosphere between them was comfortable and slightly intimate.

Odeth observed him quietly, as if searching for any cracks beneath the surface. Eventually, she spoke again, carefully.

”You know... I heard about the selection.”

By now, the news of the two new Arcanists and their names has already spread worldwide. It wasn’t unusual for an ordinary citizen like her to also hear about it.

Reinhardt’s other self nodded once.

”Mm.”

His reaction was calm, too calm.

Odeth looked at him deeply. ”You don’t look disappointed. This was your dream, wasn’t it?”

”Yeah, but I expected it.”

”And you’re... fine with it?”

His other self glanced toward the distant street, where people continued living their lives without concern for decisions happening far above them.

After a moment, he spoke. ”If that was their decision, then it’s fine. After all, Godfrey was indeed the person to slay the Dragon Lord” His expression was calm as if he had come to terms with it.

However, Odeth’s expression was not so good. ”He only dealt the final blow. You were the one who actually injured the dragon lord. If not for you protecting the rear lines, then those people supporting him would not even be alive”.

”I’m surprised that you know that much. But there is no point thinking about it. Given the choice again, I would still make the same decision”.

Two pairs of eyes looked at each other.

”Don’t you think it was unfair?”

Reinhardt other self thought for a while before giving his honest answer.

”I don’t know everything they considered. But the Seven Gods wouldn’t choose carelessly”. He looked at her with a steady gaze. ”If I wasn’t chosen, then it means that position was never meant for me.”

Hearing this, Odeth’Rhea’s eyes shifted slightly.

”You’re not angry?”

”Why would I be angry? If I start doubting them, I’ll just end up standing still. So instead of wasting my time, I’ll just keep moving forward.”

Odeth studied him for a long moment. Searching for something, resentment, frustration, cracks in conviction. But there were none.

Only acceptance.

”What if... they didn’t choose you because of your bloodline?” She wanted to tell him everything. The real reason why the gods didn’t select him. But she couldn’t.

Watching everything, the present day Reinhardt exhaled lightly through his nose. He already knew what his other self would answer.

”So that’s what you’re worried about.” His other self laughed and then spoke with determination.

”If that’s what they decided mattered, then it must have been important.”

Odeth froze slightly.

”I don’t know much about my ancestors. I don’t even know if what they think is wrong or right. But the gods do. So if they decided I shouldn’t be there... then I probably shouldn’t be there”. He gave a small shrug.

Odeth’Rhea’s expression tightened faintly, feeling more and more guilty.

This was the man the gods had rejected. Even after being discriminated against, he still chose to believe in the Seven Gods.

”That’s not how most people would react.”

Looking at the woman who reacted more strongly than even him, the person concerned, warmth spread in his heart.

He held the woman’s hand and consoled her. ”Don’t worry, I simply trust the path I am walking. As long as I continue to strive forward, I’ll reach where I’m supposed to be”.

For a moment, Odeth didn’t speak. Her gaze softened slightly, though something unreadable lingered beneath it. Then she slowly leaned forward and rested her head against his shoulder.

In response, Reianhrdt’s other self calmly wrapped his hand around her delicate shoulders.

”You really are difficult to read.”

He was someone who had been denied what should have been rightfully his.

Yet instead of delving or questioning the choice of the gods, he simply decided to move forward and trust the path he was walking.

”Haha,” He scratched his hair and smiled.

For a moment, none of them spoke and continued to share this moment that was theirs alone.

Seeing this scene, Reinhardt’s brow twitched. He was a little speechless by the ability of this man who could even impress a Goddess.

Of course, the other party had no idea that the woman he had his arm wrapped around was the Goddess of Healing and Love.

The Goddess did not pull away. Instead, she allowed the moment to linger for as long as possible.

The gaze with which she looked at Reinhardt’s other self was no longer just friendly. No, it had long surpassed the boundary of friendly and seemed to hold deep affection for him.

After watching them for a while, Reinhardt wisely chose to turn around and give the couple the moment that was theirs.

However, just as he turned around and took a few steps, from behind he heard something that made his expression freeze so abruptly that even his breath seemed to stop for a moment.

”Have you thought about the future?” Odeth’Rhea, still cuddled in his other self’s embrace, asked.

”Future?”

”Un, now that you have moved forward, don’t you think you need another goal to spur you forward?”.

Reinhardt locked his brows, deliberating about the question.

”The war... it has been going on for too long. I have lost many friends on the way and seen far too much bloodshed. If there is something I want in the future, then it is peace. I want to end the war and bring peace and stability back to these lands”.

Hearing this, Odeth looked absentminded. Then she pouted and acted coyly.

”End the war and bring peace eh? A fancy dream. However, that is not what I was asking”.

”Hm?” Reinhardt’s other self looked at her, clearly taken aback.

Odeth raised her head from his shoulder and met his gaze. ”What I wanted to know was if there is anyone you like?”

”What?”

”You heard me.” Her tone was playful, light, almost teasing. ”I asked if there’s anyone you fancy.”

The man looked at her like she had just asked something completely unreasonable.

”Why do you want to know that?”

”I’m curious. Also, because I want to know what kind of person would catch the attention of someone like you.”

Sigh... after a moment of silence, he responded with a nod.

”Yes”.

Odeth’s expression froze; she asked with a sour face. ”Who?”

”You!”

For a moment, Odeth couldn’t react. Then, after a while, as the word finally registered to her, her cheeks blushed, and she immediately tore her eyes away from his intense gaze.

Like a startled rabbit, she looked extremely cute and adorable. For the first time, the Goddess of Healing and Love looked genuinely flustered.
