The Adventures of an Overpowered Knight in Another World

Chapter 669- Baccarat

Reinhardt realized what the demons were after.

At the same time, [Celestial Harmony] resonated violently as if telling him that he was not wrong.

”I see..”

The demonic horde spotted by the Third Division was indeed a feint.

Their real target was the backlines, more specifically, the Fourth Division.

.

.

”Ahhhh, this sucks! Why are we stuck in the Fourth Division? We finally came to the Tainted Lands and instead of fighting demons, we’re carrying boxes!”

Kevin loudly grumbled for what was probably the twentieth time that day.

At this moment, the Fourth Division was steadily advancing through the mountain paths of the Tainted Lands.

Their mission was to protect the convoy carrying the supplies for the Three Divisions spearheading the expedition.

Thousands of knights marched carefully through the purified route while escorting the carriages toward the frontline camps.

Gwen walked beside him with an icy expression.

”You say that, but you almost dropped three crates earlier.”

”That’s because they packed rocks inside them!”

”They are mana crystals.”

Gwen sighed deeply.

Rolan, walking beside them, shrugged.

”Stop complaining already, Kevin. There is no way we would be sent to the frontlines when it is not an emergency. This division mostly consists of Level 6 and 7 knights.”

”But Commander is fighting at the front...”

”No buts.”

Hearing their banter, Silvia, leading the group, cut in.

”It’s just like Rolan said, the other divisions are filled with Elite Knights and Heroes. Sending out Fourth Division directly into the deepest battlefield right now would be reckless.”

She explained.

”Do you think war is all about fighting? No, war is fundamentally a massive logistical challenge that relies heavily on resource management”...

”To sustain operations, one must continuously mobilize, transport, and distribute vast quantities of food, resources, medicine, potions and arms across thousands of miles”...

”Victory for the other divisions would depend entirely on our Fourth Division maintaining stable supply chains, which means an army’s operational capability can be entirely crippled if its backend logistical network breaks down.”

While everyone followed her train of thought, nodding in understanding, halfway through Silvia noticed that Kevin looked lost.

”Ahem, that is to say, our mission is as important as the other division leading the charge.”

”Oh.”

Kevin smacked his fist on his palm in understanding.

As the saying goes, talk sense to a fool and they call you foolish.

Silvia had to keep it simple for Kevin to make sense.

”Besides, don’t think that we won’t see combat. Like I said before, victory would depend on a steady supply chain.

The demons, as cunning as they are, can see this point clearly.

As such, they will definitely target the support divisions eventually.”

Hearing that he could fight, Kevin was instantly in a good mood.

”Let those demons come, I’ll send all of them packing with my sword.”

Haha...

Seeing Kevin immediately settle down, Vangeance and the others couldn’t help but smile helplessly.

Should they say, as expected of Elder Sister Silvia?

She knew exactly how to handle a simple-minded fool like Kevin.

”Oi brat, look at the front.”

Vangeance slung an arm across Kevin’s shoulders.

”Although I share the same sentiment, this is an opportunity in itself.”

In the front, a woman with lustrous white hair and donned in holy armor that radiated a soft soothing aura could be seen.

”The leader of the Fourth Division is Saintess Vanessa. One of the Three Pillars of Solaris alongside Commander Reinhardt. Everyone in Solaris knows she’s a master of Holy Skills. This is probably the best chance we’ll ever get to witness her abilities up close.”

Vangeance’s eyes shone slightly. His words immediately stole everyone’s attention.

”Right, I heard many legends about the Saintess. It is said that there is no disease or ailment she cannot cure.

She had once healed an entire legion with her skill. Stopped a demonic plague and purified curses that were said to be impossible to purge.”

Delicia stated.

As an older knight, she was more experienced than anyone here.

Naturally, she heard a lot about Vanessa during her missions.

”Is that true?” Gwen questioned.

Silvia nodded.

”Most likely.”

Although Vanessa rarely fought publicly, her reputation among priests and knights was legendary.

While the squad was having a leisurely conversation, at the front Vanessa, who was leading the Fourth Division, suddenly narrowed her eyes.

Feeling something amiss, her senses fluctuated for a while.

Then suddenly, a terrifying sense of danger surged through her instincts.

”Stop.”

Her command rang across the mountains and all the knights and carriages immediately came to a halt.

Before anyone could ask her what was going on...

”Enemy attack! Brace for impact!!”

She hurriedly shouted out.

At exactly the same moment.

RUMBLE...

The entire mountain range began shaking violently.

The ground cracked apart and massive boulders fell from above.

Knights hurried to stabilize themselves; however, the footing and their current position were too bad.

BOOOOOOM!!!

With a deafening noise, earth exploded upward and something colossal surfaced up.

Looking at the thing that suddenly appeared out of the earth, everyone realized that it was a hand, a colossal hand.

No, calling it a hand felt wrong.

The black thing, although shaped like a hand, was pitch black and had thousands of eyes sprouting from its surface, staring at them menacingly.

The thing emanated so much malice that even the veteran knights froze in their place for a moment.

”W-What is that monster?!”

Using this change when everyone was surprised, the hand clenched and slammed downwards, intending to pulverize the knights.

”[Dawn Shield]”

Vanessa reacted instantly and raised her staff.

Pure holy light exploded outwards and formed a barrier enveloping the division.

BOOOOOOM!!!

The colossal hand slammed onto the shield.

Shockwaves from the impact blasted everywhere.

Mountains crumbled and boulders fell from the sky.

Nonetheless, the shield held strong.

BANG...

The hand slammed once again.

This time, a crack appeared on the shield.

Seeing this, Vanessa immediately increased the output of her holy energy.

With her cape and lustrous white fluttering with the wind, the Saintess gave instructions.

”Healing teams move immediately. Stabilize the injured. Assault teams maintain formation and be on guard for enemy reinforcements.”

This was enemy territory.

Being attacked from anywhere wouldn’t be surprising.

That said, thanks to Vanessa’s presence, all the knights came to their senses and managed to evade the worst scenario.

”Is everyone alright?!”

”We have few injured but no fatalities!”

”Good!”

Vanessa nodded and turned her attention back towards the colossal hand.

Seeing its relentless assault and devastating power, her expression couldn’t help but harden.

In terms of both presence and power, it was not beneath a Heavenly King.

If she were to engage with this monster, it would be a prolonged battle.

However, the terrain was terrible for such a battle.

If she fought that thing here, the collapsing mountains alone would cause more injuries, loss of supplies and perhaps even death.

Having formed a plan, she immediately turned toward the two Heroes accompanying the division.

”Stall that thing for a while and then lure it into the plains ahead. We cannot fight it here!”

The two Heroes nodded without hesitation.

BOOM... BOOM...

While the two heroes distracted the hand, Vanessa led the division around, towards the plains.

”Immediately call the headquarters and inform them about our situation.”

An extreme knight nodded.

Vanessa continuously cast support skills while retreating.

A golden shield formed on the edges of the cliff, preventing carriages and knights from falling over.

Thanks to her leadership, the Fourth Division somehow managed to reach the plains while avoiding incurring major losses.

Then they quickly spread out, maintaining formation and awaiting the enemy’s appearance.

The deep rumbling sounds coming from the mountain range spoke volumes about the intense fight that was going on inside.

Everyone waited for several minutes, then...

BOOM...

Tearing the mountain apart with a punch, the hand descended down.

The two Heroes landed beside Vanessa and stared at the thing with solemn eyes.

The Saintess and the other powerful knights also noticed the situation and looked at the hand incredulously.

The two heroes looked slightly battered and out of breath.

While the hand, on the other hand, although carrying slight signs of damage, compared to its ridiculous size, appeared mostly unharmed.

”Dame Vanessa, please be careful. That thing, it’s peculiar. No matter how many injuries it suffers, they quickly fade the next second.”

One of the heroes informed.

The other added, ”It’s not just that, its movement is also erratic. The way it moves like a whip, it doesn’t appear that thing has bones.”

Two heroes fighting together and yet they could not suppress the enemy.

Although it did not mean that they lost, it frustrated them greatly.

Vanessa nodded and looked at the enemy they were facing.

Thousands of crimson eyes stared at her, blinking in intervals and releasing a thick amount of miasma.

Some pooled down and fell on the ground, releasing corrosive noises.

Seeing this, Vanessa quickly came to a realization.

”Everyone... If I am not mistaken... that thing is a Disaster-Class entity recorded in the annals of history”.
