Chapter 664- The Formation Of The Dawnbringers (2)

After clearing the Gorgon Snake’s trial, they even discovered the incredible truth surrounding the Island of Exile itself.

And the real identity behind the beast’s name.

”Oi, you idiot, you don’t need to mention that in front of Commander!”

Vangeance’s face twitched. He pointed at Kevin.

”And you’re not smart either. You kept getting petrified because you stared directly into Medusa’s eyes like an idiot!”

Kevin scratched his head, embarrassed.

”How was I supposed to know her eyes activate automatically? You literally warned me after getting petrified yourself!”

”You idiot, don’t you know the meaning of learning from others’ mistakes?”

”How can I learn if I’m already stone?!”

The two began arguing boldly.

Watching the comedic routine of the duo before him, Reinhardt smiled helplessly.

It seemed that they truly experienced quite a lot during their journey.

The boisterousness of the group quickly drew the attention of everyone nearby.

Some knights frowned in annoyance at the noisy bunch.

Others merely glanced once before looking away. Not bothering with them any further.

The Dawnbringers gathered knights from all walks of life.

Noble orders, royal guards, former mercenaries, temple knights, frontier survivors and such.

People from completely different worlds gathered under one banner.

Not every knight order was like the Order of the Temple of Light. Where even a former bandit, a ruffian, and an individual who could not use mana could somehow become respected knights.

”Kevin.”

At this moment, a voice called out.

A young knight stepped forward from the crowd.

He looked around Kevin’s age. But unlike Kevin’s somewhat silly and overly expressive face, the newcomer looked refined and handsome.

His crimson cloak fluttered behind him. A noble crest gleamed on his chestplate.

His posture alone screamed aristocrat.

When Kevin saw him, he pointed immediately.

”You are that guy!”

Seeing Kevin recognize him, the young knight smiled.

But then.

”The one who was there back then, the guy. Who are you again?”

Kevin scratched his head.

Silence.

Everyone around them nearly collapsed on the spot.

Vangeance instantly grabbed Kevin by the collar. He started shaking him violently.

”You idiot! If you don’t remember him, then don’t speak like you do. You are misleading others.”

Kevin flailed around helplessly.

”Haha, I don’t know. For some reason, I felt like his face felt familiar.”

From the side, Gwen pinched the bridge of her nose in exasperation.

”He is Stark,” she said tiredly.

”One of the Star Candidates from our batch. He fought alongside us during the Capital Incident, remember?”

Kevin froze.

Then his eyes widened in realization.

”Ohhhhhhh!”

He smacked his fist into his palm. He gave the party a flamboyant nickname.

”The flame guy!”

Hearing this, Stark’s lips twitched violently.

What kind of nickname was that?

Still, he held himself back and spoke calmly.

”How do you forget someone who fought a Cerberus alongside you in the royal palace?”

”Haha, my bad.”

Kevin laughed shamelessly before slapping Stark’s shoulder.

”It’s been a while. You look cooler now.”

”...Thank you?”

Even Stark became uncertain how to respond.

The two exchanged a few short words. Then Stark’s expression slowly turned serious.

”Let’s put the friendly chat aside for now. I came to you to tell you something.”

The playful expression on Kevin’s face also disappeared.

What was going on?

Silvia, Delicia, Gwen, and the others looked over curiously.

Stark continued.

”The Capital Incident showed me my shortcomings. After that day, I made you my rival.”

”Oh.”

”Anyways, I came to you for no other reason. Kevin, let’s compete.”

”A rival challenge, huh?”

Silvia and the others exchanged amused looks but stayed silent.

Kevin’s eyes sparkled instantly.

”Fine then! I accept. But how do we compete?”

Stark pointed toward the massive training grounds.

Numerous knights were currently battling Elite Knights while heroes observed from above.

”Simple. Whoever clears all the trials and joins Dawnbringer first, wins.”

Kevin thought for a while. Then grinned widely.

”Alright.”

With the declaration of challenge, the atmosphere between them immediately ignited.

Afterward, they returned to their respective groups.

Vangeance instantly wrapped an arm around Kevin’s shoulder.

”Heh, not bad, brat. I like how you stood your ground and immediately accepted the challenge like a man.”

”Hehe, Senior Vangeance, how can a man say no when their rival challenges them?”

The two troublemakers grinned foolishly.

”Two minutes ago you did not even know the name of the other party. Boys are really...”

The three girls in the team couldn’t help but sigh inside.

It needs to be said that Kevin and Stark did not keep their voices low. As such, many people heard their challenge clearly.

What’s more, when Stark gave his challenge, he did not state if they could join the Dawnbringers but when.

The confidence caused many of the knights here to give them less than friendly smiles.

Meanwhile, in the area occupied by the Order of the Blazing Sun, Brutus looked toward Stark and laughed loudly.

”Heh! Looks like that boy lit a fire under you.”

Stark remained silent.

Brutus crossed his arms with a grin.

”That’s good.”

His fiery gaze shifted toward Kevin.

”A rival pushes you forward. It forces you to sharpen yourself instead of becoming satisfied. If your flames collide properly, both of you will burn brighter.”

Stark nodded quietly.

His fists tightened unconsciously.

His eyes remained fixed on Kevin.

The boy he once dismissed during the Magic Knight Entrance Exam.

The same unremarkable commoner who could barely control mana properly.

Had now become someone he could no longer ignore.

No, someone he genuinely wanted to surpass.

During the Capital Incident, Stark still believed that he had the upper hand.

However, that belief changed when Cerberus appeared.

His eyes darkened slightly as the memory resurfaced.

The blazing halls of the royal palace.

The smell of blood and the roar of S-rank beast.

A beast so powerful that even Elite Knights had to take it seriously.

But back then, there was no choice.

Only their ragtag group of level 5 recruits and below were left in the capital.

Everyone else was teleported away.

They thought that they could do it.

However, they were too naïve.

Everyone present there had been crushed by the Cerberus’ terrifying aura and devastating attacks.

But Stark knew. Among all the people there, the monster singled Kevin out.

Because the beast knew that he was the most troublesome.

The incident from that day was still clear to him.

When everyone was downed, Kevin, covered in blood and barely able to stand, stepped forward again and again while gripping his sword.

Even while trembling, he still stood in front of the monster alone.

That image burned itself into Stark’s memory.

He realized how weak he was.

Ever since that day, he trained harder and harder.

The assessment grounds were packed with knights.

Both Stark and Kevin waited in line with their teams for their turn.

Before long, it was their turn.

Stark and his team stepped towards the arena.

Across from them stood their proctor.

A tall Level 8 Elite Knight from the Kingdom of Paradoxis.

The moment the Elite Knight unsheathed his sword, a heavy pressure spread outward.

”Your objective is simple. Show enough strength and potential to convince me you deserve to enter the Dawnbringers.”

Right after that, he pointed his blade toward them.

”Begin.”

BOOM!

The instant the words fell, Stark exploded forward first.

Flames burst beneath his feet.

His sword ignited in blazing crimson fire as he slashed diagonally toward the Elite Knight.

The air distorted from the heat alone.

CLANG!

The Elite Knight blocked the strike effortlessly. But another knight from Stark’s team immediately followed from the flank.

A barrage of flaming spears shot through the air.

The training ground lit up brightly.

The Paradoxis knight raised one arm.

A massive wall of mana formed before him.

BOOOOM!

Fire exploded violently across the arena.

The compact heat waves rolled outwards, shocking quite a few knights.

Stark did not stop there.

His eyes sharpened as flames spiraled around his sword.

”Solar Flare Slash!”

”Heat Rend.”

”Star Blaze.”

He unleashed one skill after another. Impressing quite a few commanders and Heroes who were looking at the grounds.

He was like fire itself.

Fast, aggressive, and powerful.

His blade descended like a meteor.

CLANG! CLANG! CLANG!

What’s more, Stark’s teamwork with his squad was excellent.

One attacked directly.

Another disrupted movement.

A third constantly pressured from range.

Even the observing heroes nodded slightly.

Not bad.

Very not bad.

Stark himself felt his confidence rise.

Then, almost unconsciously, he glanced toward Kevin’s arena. And froze.

”What the hell?!!”

The situation in Kevin’s arena was so out of this world that he could not even process it.

In Kevin’s arena, it did not look like the Elite Knight was testing the group.

But rather the group testing, no, bullying the Elite Knight.

That’s right, bullying.

The scene looked so bizarre that Stark screamed inside his mind.

”Are you freaking kidding me?”

In Kevin’s arena, the young knight charged recklessly towards the instructor, wielding the gigantic crimson sword [Tiamat].
