Pokémon: My Parallel World Daughters Revealed

The ring slowly expanded.

Hoopa was the first to float out, carrying a black video camera nearly three times larger than its entire body.

Elaria stepped through next, followed by Lillie, who was carrying a folder with an expression that practically said, I’ve already accepted that this is how we make entrances now.

After landing, Elaria first straightened the hem of her skirt before waving toward Ash and Gary.

”Hello, Mister Ash, Mister Gary. Sorry for interrupting your battle.”

Pikachu’s eyes immediately lit up.

It ran over to Elaria’s feet and rubbed affectionately against her ankle.

”Pika pika!”

Elaria smiled and pulled a bottle of ketchup from her backpack, handing it to Pikachu.

”Long time no see, Elaria.”

Ash walked over.

”What are you suddenly doing all the way out here? Is school on break?”

”I already graduated from the Pokémon School.”

Elaria blinked.

”I’m the Minister of the World League’s Cultural Department now.”

”Cultural Department?”

Ash scratched his head.

”When did the League get a department like that?”

”My dad created it.”

Elaria’s answer was short and simple.

”Oh, so it’s new.”

Ash nodded before turning toward Lillie.

”Lillie, why are you here too? What about your work at the Aether Foundation?”

”I’m Minister Elaria’s assistant now.”

Lillie hugged the folder against her chest, looking perfectly calm.

”It’s an official League appointment too. My mother didn’t arrange it for me.”

”Huh? You work for that department too?”

Ash’s eyes widened.

”I had no idea.”

”That’s because I only started recently.”

Gary had remained silent off to the side the entire time.

With his arms crossed, he was studying Hoopa and the oversized camera it was carrying with a scrutinizing gaze.

”Ash.”

Lillie glanced toward Gary.

”Who is this?”

”Oh, right!”

Ash slapped his forehead.

”Elaria, Lillie, let me introduce you. This is Gary, my friend.”

Elaria waved at him.

”Hello, Mister Gary.”

Gary finally pulled his gaze away from Hoopa and looked down at Elaria.

”Oh, hello, Elaria. I know who you are. Grandpa told me about you.”

Elaria nodded.

”Sorry for interrupting your battle. I came because I wanted to interview you. Professor Oak said you were somewhere in the hills, so we came straight over.”

”I see.”

Gary rubbed his temple before waving a hand.

”All right, then come back to the lab with me first. You wanted an interview, right? I’ve got complete research records there. It’ll be better than standing around talking in the mountains.”

Anistar City.

Gary’s Laboratory.

The moment Hoopa entered, it dropped the camera onto the coffee table.

Then the entire Pokémon shot around the laboratory like a pink-and-gray cannonball.

”What’s this machine for?!”

Hoopa pressed its face against the screen of an oscilloscope, squashing its nose into a flat oval.

”Why are there so many wavy lines on it? Hoopa knows wavy lines! When Big Sister Lana uses Oceanic Operetta, the water gets lines just like these!”

”That’s an EEG monitor.”

Gary hung his lab coat on a rack before walking over to the control panel and pressing several buttons.

”It’s used to record the frequency of a Pokémon’s brain waves under different emotional states.”

”Brain waves?”

Hoopa immediately flew in front of him.

It pressed both little hands against its cheeks, posing like a flower.

”Does Hoopa have brain waves too? Hurry up and test Hoopa! Hoopa wants to know whether Hoopa is a genius or a super genius!”

Gary stared at it for a moment.

Then he turned toward Elaria.

”Is this Pokémon always like this?”

”Yes.”

Elaria scratched her cheek.

”Hoopa is always like this.”

Gary fell silent for a moment.

Then he took a small adhesive sensor from the control panel and slapped it onto Hoopa’s forehead.

The waveform on the monitor immediately began jumping violently.

Its frequency was so high that it looked like the machine was hosting a rock concert.

”...What is this?”

Gary stared at the screen, his eyes widening like bells.

”This frequency and amplitude... Its brain activity pattern is completely different from every Pokémon we’ve recorded so far.”

”That’s because Hoopa is one of a kind!”

Hoopa peeled the sensor off its forehead and puffed out its chest.

”Hoopa’s very existence is a miracle!”

Gary closed the file in his hands.

After a moment of silence, he spoke.

”The fundamental nature of your ability appears to be a form of higher-dimensional teleportation that transcends three-dimensional space, completely bypassing the limitations of physical distance.”

”In theory, there shouldn’t be any upper limit to your teleportation range.”

”Of course there isn’t!”

Hoopa planted its hands on its hips.

”Hoopa can go anywhere Hoopa wants!”

”Then can you teleport a meteor here from outer space?”

”Hoopa already said Hoopa can go anywhere Hoopa wants!”

Hoopa spun circles in midair.

”What’s one little meteor supposed to be?! If Hoopa wanted to, Hoopa could even summon an entire planet and use it as a paperweight for Elaria!”

Elaria gently patted Hoopa on the head.

”Hoopa, a planet is too big. It’s a star, and stars look prettier when they stay up in the sky.”

Just then—

A series of extremely faint footsteps came from the second floor of the laboratory.

They weren’t the sounds of shoes against the floor.

They were soft paw pads stepping across wooden boards, moving at a very slow pace.

Elaria turned her head.

A female Meowstic was slowly making her way down from around the corner of the staircase.

”Meowstic?”

Elaria blinked.

”Is she your Pokémon, Mister Gary?”

”Not exactly.”

Gary leaned against the edge of the laboratory table.

”A few days ago, I was passing through the forest behind the lab when I found her severely injured and collapsed inside some bushes.”

”I originally planned to release her back into the wild once she’d recovered, but then I discovered a problem—this Meowstic can’t use her psychic powers.”

”Could it be psychological trauma?”

Lillie opened her folder.

”I’ve handled a few similar cases before. After suffering severe emotional trauma, Pokémon can sometimes temporarily lose access to their abilities.”

”I considered that possibility too, but there’s no way to verify it.”

Gary shook his head.

”This Meowstic is extremely withdrawn. She barely communicates with anyone.”

”I see...”

Elaria lowered her head and began thinking.

Then Lillie suddenly tapped her on the shoulder.

Elaria looked up.

”Big Sister Lillie, what’s wrong?”

Lillie said nothing.

She simply pointed.

Elaria followed her finger—

And saw that Hoopa had somehow produced an enormous bouquet of roses.

Every single flower was nearly as large as Hoopa’s head, and there were still droplets of dew clinging to the petals.

Clearly, Hoopa had just teleported them directly out of some flower shop.

At that very moment—

Hoopa was holding the bouquet high above its head and offering it to Meowstic.

Elaria: ???

[VIP Chat Group]

[Gary]: ??? What’s going on? Did I miss something?

[May]: How did things even develop into this?! What is Hoopa doing?

[Ash]: Maybe it’s trying to cheer Meowstic up so she can recover her psychic powers?

[Dawn]: ...Now that you put it that way, I guess that does make some sense?

[Brock]: Sigh... You’re all far too dense. This touching scene is clearly a wordless poem of courtship. This is love!

[Max]: ...Here we go again.

[Brock]: Just look! Hoopa is normally so loud and hyperactive, yet it’s deliberately being this quiet while offering her flowers! Sob... It’s too touching! Hoopa, you have my full support!

[Misty]: ...Brock, could you please stop projecting your own fantasies onto Pokémon? Hoopa and Meowstic aren’t even in the same Egg Group, are they?

[Brock]: True love doesn’t care about how the outside world sees it! Anyway, I support Hoopa! Don’t give up! Someday, all of us will definitely find true love!

[Croagunk]: Croak. (Poison Jab strikes Brock in the waist.)

[Brock]: Wh-Why... I was only trying to support true love... Numb... I’m going numb...
