Chapter 6422: Formation Failed

Tianjian Qingyuan thought of an idea and shouted, “Are you going to abandon Chu Feng?”

Chu Feng’s grandmother, despite having ventured some distance across the Heaven Gate, suddenly halted her footsteps. She was briefly stunned before she abruptly turned around and walked back.

Boom!

Space jolted and distorted when she made her very first step. A formidable power was preventing her from turning back. However, Chu Feng’s grandmother’s turbid eyes hardened with resolution.

“Feng’er!”

She had to return no matter what it took for Chu Feng.

Thus, she unleashed terrifying flames that swiftly fanned outward like waves. Her aura also flared, revealing strength capable of destroying several realms with a snap of the finger.

Even Tianjian Qingyuan was astounded by this sight. “Her cultivation!”

Song Changsheng was surprised as well, but he soon laughed in realization. No wonder Chu Xuanyuan is so strong. Even his mother is a figure to be reckoned with as well.

But the force stopping Chu Feng’s grandmother was far stronger, almost like a heavenly law. Every step she took was incredibly strenuous, causing lacerations to appear all over her body. Despite her strength, she couldn’t overcome this force.

“There’s no way to return after entering Heaven Gate. You’re only harming her by calling her back,” Song Changsheng said.

“But I promised Chu Feng to bring his grandmother back,” Tianjian Qingyuan replied.

“Do you intend to bring a corpse back?” Song Changsheng replied.

Tianjian Qingyuan was stunned.

“Chu Feng engaged your help because he thought the Immemorial Cemetery was too dangerous, and he was worried that a mishap might befall his grandmother. It goes without saying that he wishes his grandmother to be safe.

“And don’t you think he would want his grandmother to benefit from the Heaven Gate if she has managed to open it? You shouldn’t ruin her over a promise,” Song Changsheng said.

He turned to Chu Feng’s grandmother and shouted, “Elder, don’t force yourself. Chu Feng and Chu Xuanyuan will be heartbroken if something happens to you. Your safety is more important than anything.

“Chu Feng is safe here, so you can venture into the Ninth Galaxy with ease of mind. Chu Xuanyuan is also in the Ninth Galaxy now. Don’t you want to meet him? You should head there and find a way to treat your body, so that you can meet your family members in your best state.

“It’s only a matter of time before Chu Feng enters the Ninth Galaxy as well. Make sure to look for Chu Feng when the time comes. Don’t let him continue shouldering everything alone like an orphan, without anyone to protect him.”

Song Changsheng’s words struck some sense into Chu Feng’s grandmother, and tears brimmed in her determined eyes.

Without saying a word, she reined in her flames.

Just then, a trail of light appeared beneath her feet. The light expanded, enveloping her and forming an entire path. Then, the path of light disintegrated from the tail end till it vanished from sight.

Song Changsheng and Tianjian Qingyuan knew the path would lead Chu Feng’s grandmother toward the special region prepared by the Heaven Gate.

The Heaven Gate closed, but the path before them continued into the horizon.

Tianjian Qingyuan’s eyes lingered on the area where Chu Feng’s grandmother disappeared.

“Don’t worry, I’ll back your words,” Song Changsheng said.

Tianjian Qingyuan nearly ruined Chu Feng’s grandmother over the promise she made, but it was an unintentional mistake. She didn’t know that it was impossible to turn back once one had entered the Heaven Gate, and turning back would result in a backlash.

She didn’t stop Song Changsheng from dissuading Chu Feng’s grandmother, which showed that she wished for the safety of Chu Feng’s grandmother, too.

Tianjian Qingyuan smiled. “I still owe Chu Feng one.”

She continued venturing down the path, and Song Changsheng followed her.

Bringing back Chu Feng’s grandmother was a side mission. They had to continue with the more important task they had on hand.

...

Meanwhile, Chu Feng was busy channeling the auxiliary formation. They had reached a critical point. His undivided attention was required, for a lapse in focus could unravel all they had done thus far.

All of a sudden, his eyes widened.

His grandmother’s aura had vanished. He could no longer sense his grandmother’s location, as if she had disappeared from the face of the world.

This resulted in a lapse in his attention.

The auxiliary formation immediately turned blood red. Blood pillars shot toward Chu Feng and the Spirit God Clansmen.

It happened so fast that Chu Feng and the Spirit God Clansmen were enveloped by the red light before the crowd could react.

“Chu Feng!!!”

Little Fishy, Song Yun, Wang Qiang, and the others rushed over, but they couldn’t do anything about the red light shrouding Chu Feng.

Chu Feng and the others stopped moving as if they were frozen in time. Not even their eyes were blinking.

“Don’t make a reckless move. You might harm them instead,” the Huangfu Heavenly Clan’s Clan Chief said.

Little Fishy and the others knew he was right and held themselves back despite being worried.

Meanwhile, Shen Hui and her Spirit God Clansmen’s consciousness were transported into another space. They found themselves standing on a stone pavement, before a majestic hall.

There were no other buildings in the vicinity, and the sky was shrouded in a white light.

“Lord Shen Hui, have we lost?”

The Spirit God Clansmen looked at Shen Hui.

Before Shen Hui could reply, a middle-aged woman’s voice echoed, “You’re world spiritists. You should have known there is a price to pay for failing the auxiliary formation.”

The voice was pleasant. It was authoritative yet not severe.

“What’s the price?” Shen Hui asked.

“You entrusted your spirit power to that lad because you trusted him. I’ll give you two choices. One, give up on him and let him shoulder the punishment all alone. You’ll still be punished, but your lives will be spared. Two, trust him and shoulder the punishment with him. However, the chances are that you won’t walk out of here alive.”

The Spirit God Clansmen turned to Chu Feng. They didn’t utter a word, but their panic was evident on their faces. Even Shen Hui couldn’t make a choice.

They had come here to aid Chu Feng, but it was to repay their debt to Xue Ji. They had no ties with him beforehand. To decide whether they should put their lives on the line for Chu Feng was too much of a decision for them to make in the spur of the moment.

To be fair, their hesitation already revealed the goodwill they harbored toward Chu Feng. Anyone else in their position wouldn’t hesitate to abandon him.
