Inheritance of Two Trillion

Chapter 2022: Chapter 1566: That Wen Yan

After Catherine left, Bai Xiaosheng ordered another cup of coffee, sipping leisurely and enjoying the rich aroma of hand-ground coffee in the quiet afternoon.

What he needed to do was wait.

Daisy’s side indeed provided an unexpected surprise. The things Daisy brought out had already been scanned into electronic documents and sent to Xiahou Qi’s side. The base camp was organizing manpower to analyze them one by one.

It takes time to thoroughly analyze those disjointed documents, trace them to find problematic companies and incidents.

Such analysis requires professionals for detailed dissection and inference, and even subjective thinking and judgment. Bai Xiaosheng relied on Red Lotus for these tasks, which were not his forte. If he forced himself to analyze them, he feared his brain would overload and he would suffer from excessive mental exertion. And now, he cannot afford that; he must stay clear-headed and vigilant to face his opponents at all times.

Especially after meeting Catherine today, Bai Xiaosheng felt a tinge of caution.

Judging by the look in her eyes when she left, she hardly seemed hopeful that he would agree to cooperate, and her gaze flickered with malice and a hint of murderous intent.

”I fear that Catherine intends to harm me!” Bai Xiaosheng thought to himself.

On the surface, he showed no emotion, calmly holding his coffee while drinking.

”In the previous conversation, she even threatened that if I continued to fight against them, I would be doomed in South America!”

”With her demeanor and actions, she must be prepared, sharpening her knives waiting to deal with me!”

Bai Xiaosheng was never afraid of any opponent, nor did he underestimate anyone.

At this point, there was no choice.

After all, reporting Landvo had become his promotion task!

”Evidence is necessary, but just having evidence isn’t enough. It also needs to reach the group headquarters’ executives to make a high-level decision! After all, Landvo is no ordinary figure!” Bai Xiaosheng looked at the sunlight outside the window, frowning in thought.

But through whose hands could it be delivered?

Should he rely on some meeting at the headquarters, where he openly denounces?

That would probably be the last resort.

Bai Xiaosheng thought of Jiang Kuo, his superior, who was on the same level as Landvo.

Would Jiang Kuo be willing to deliver the evidence and collaborate against Landvo?

Bai Xiaosheng had a good impression of Jiang Kuo, but he had strong doubts whether he would help him in this matter.

For Jiang Kuo, this issue only brought trouble, with no benefits. Why would he clash with someone of the same rank just to help the group eradicate internal problems? He probably wouldn’t be so noble.

If Jiang Kuo wasn’t feasible, then who?

Bai Xiaosheng pondered.

Executives from headquarters like Fang Beijun, Yu Xingyao, Chu Ruolan, Ryan, Sophia—lower positions, even more impossible.

When he visited headquarters, Bai Xiaosheng was fortunate to meet two vice presidents but never interacted further. It was utterly impossible to deliver anything directly...

After thinking for a long time, Bai Xiaosheng’s eyes suddenly brightened.

He thought of someone—someone he’d met a few times, who had even helped him in cooperating with Soruns—the man accompanied by maid Ruan Yu and old butler Huang, Wen Yan!

According to Soruns, Wen Yan was a high-ranking official of the Monitoring Department, a seventh department independent of the six major business divisions at headquarters!

Soruns didn’t mention Wen Yan’s specific position, but he was quite affirmative and approving of Wen Yan!

Soruns once said that Wen Yan even clashed with a vice president while investigating top executives at headquarters. That was impressive!

Recalling his encounters with Wen Yan, no matter how sharp Bai Xiaosheng’s insight, he could never fully understand that person, more puzzling than Catherine!

But Wen Yan had always shown great kindness to him, and consistently exhibited righteousness.

With a favorable impression of Wen Yan, and Soruns’ excellent evaluation, Bai Xiaosheng decided he really could try contacting Wen Yan!

Having made up his mind, Bai Xiaosheng’s eyes flickered with excitement.

...

The café owner had been watching Bai Xiaosheng all along, seeing him ”spacing out” for two hours grew tiresome, so he went to the restroom. Upon his return, the café owner noticed Bai Xiaosheng’s seat was empty.

”Where is he?!” The café owner hurriedly asked the attendant.

”He left.” The attendant answered nonchalantly.

The café owner glared at the attendant, dashed outside to look, but Bai Xiaosheng was nowhere to be found.

Disappointed, the café owner returned inside.

He had hoped to keep an eye on him for any developments to report to Ms. Catherine for a reward.

Apparently, he was overthinking.

”Where the hell did he go?” The café owner muttered frustratedly.

At this moment, Bai Xiaosheng, carrying his bag, leisurely walked down a quiet street. First, he called Lei Ying to confirm everything was fine, then dialed Lin Weiwei’s number.

”Weiwei, how’s the progress on your side?”

”Very effective, I was just about to report to you!” Lin Weiwei replied excitedly.

From her tone, things were progressing well. Bai Xiaosheng felt slightly better.

Daisy was an unexpected joy, while Lin Weiwei’s side was strategically planned, part of Plan C.

”No need to report to me, I’m on my way there now,” Bai Xiaosheng said.

”Really, that’s great!” Lin Weiwei was thrilled.

Working alone for three days, she finally had remarkable results to report to Bai Xiaosheng face-to-face.

Bai Xiaosheng continued chatting with her, heading to the nearby station.

Actually, Bai Xiaosheng was leaving the city to meet Lin Weiwei.

Catherine had demanded an answer from him before midnight, even leaving him a contact number.

He had promised to reply, but never said he’d be at Lanling Fort when he did.

After this brief meeting, it’s likely the real conflict would begin.

Let’s see if Catherine’s schemes are more potent, or if Bai Xiaosheng can dismantle and counter them more skillfully!

Having finished talking with Lin Weiwei, Bai Xiaosheng located the contact number Wen Yan had left him from his nearly unused directory.

Bai Xiaosheng dialed it, patiently waiting and contemplating how to talk to Wen Yan—he needed to be cautious, perhaps test the waters first.

After all, he still didn’t know Wen Yan’s stance towards Landvo.

With the commotion Landvo had been causing here without any action from the headquarters’ Monitoring Department, wasn’t there something suspicious...

Finally, the call connected.

A gentle voice came through, teasing, ”Is that Bai Xiaosheng? I’m Wen Yan. You finally called me, I’ve been waiting eagerly.”

”Mr. Wen Yan, it’s been a long time,” Bai Xiaosheng smiled as well.

”You’re a star and a busy man—it’s understandable. I was wondering when you’ll visit headquarters for a report, so I could invite you for a drink,” Wen Yan chuckled lightly.

Bai Xiaosheng replied, ”It would be a while before I report to headquarters, and I’m not in Huaxia right now—I’m in South America.”

”South America? Planning another major collaboration there?” Wen Yan asked with a laugh.

Bai Xiaosheng hesitated, then said, ”Actually, I heard someone bad-mouthing Mr. Landvo, but of course, I don’t believe it...”

Bai Xiaosheng tried to gently probe.

Silence fell on the other end immediately; Bai Xiaosheng waited patiently.

After a few seconds, Wen Yan’s voice returned, but what he said took Bai Xiaosheng by surprise.

”Bai Xiaosheng, are you investigating those rumors about Landvo!”
