The Valued Lady is Truly Dominant

Shang Meiniang walked out of the side room, looking at the ordinary-faced man before her, one of Xia Houzhe’s trusted aides, Dong Da. Yet, unexpectedly, he was now serving Shang Pu, or rather, Chu Ze.

Her expression was complex as she said, ”I didn’t expect you to have long considered the lord your master.”

Dong Da did not look at her, only gazed at the house hidden below in the night, saying, ”The lord is worthy. You know it in your heart, otherwise, you wouldn’t have betrayed as well.”

Shang Meiniang bitterly smiled, ”I’m not like you, I...”

Upon hearing this, Dong Da finally looked over and said, ”The lord has no such thoughts. Why are you making it so hard for yourself? As the lord said, if you leave now, we will arrange everything for you. You can find a good person in the future, live a stable life, and forget the past.”

Shang Meiniang’s face turned pale as she said, ”If I wanted to leave, I wouldn’t need you to say it; I would have left myself. So, there’s no need to say more; my mind is set.” She paused and said, ”I don’t expect the lord to view me with romantic feelings. I only hope that for the rest of his life, he won’t suffer anymore.”

Dong Da remained silent.

Shang Meiniang was somewhat worried and hesitated as she said, ”But you also see, the lord doesn’t even consider himself, Dong Da. You understand his health; there’s no medicine sent from over there, and the medicine we have hidden here can only last for two months.”

Dong Da sighed, ”Not to mention medicine, people from Emperor Chu’s side are about to follow the clues to find us here.”

Shang Meiniang’s eyes showed harsh intent, ”It seems Mr. Ning and the others have completely treated the lord as a shield to block the blade. If anything happens to the lord, they shouldn’t expect to end well either.”

Dong Da lowered his eyes, ”Over there, Mr. Ning is already planning an escape route.”

Shang Meiniang was surprised, ”What? Has something happened?”

”On Emperor Chu’s side, they have learned that Mr. Ning is faking his death and are searching for him with all their might. Mr. Ning likely wants to preserve some strength, just in case.”

Upon hearing this, Shang Meiniang laughed, ”The lord was right; the more you do, the more wrong you end up. Xia Houzhe is cutting off his own path.”

She paused and then looked at Dong Da with a half-smile, ”No, it’s also due to your ’loyal’ persuasion.”

If it weren’t for the ’guidance’ and manipulation from these trusted aides, how could Xia Houzhe keep making foolish moves, disappointing the old faction genuinely wanting to support him?

Dong Da said, ”The master also has his thoughts. When people grow up, they don’t want to be puppets, but want to be the strategist.”

Shang Meiniang sneered, ”Is he even worthy?”

Being worthy or not, that’s human nature.

Shang Meiniang returned to the main topic, ”If the lord insists on being that shield to block the blade, then what?”

”If necessary, knock him out and carry him away.”

Shang Meiniang: ”...”

What kind of rotten idea is this.

She rolled her eyes and said, ”Actually, going back to the capital isn’t bad. Emperor Chu would certainly want to verify his identity. If the lord is willing to clarify the truth, would Emperor Chu truly kill him? Emperor Chu has people, and could possibly find the Divine Doctor to help him remove the Accompanying Poison.”

Dong Da laughed at her naivety, ”If you were the Emperor, would you allow someone else to sleep soundly in your bed? Let alone that this brother of yours has colluded with adversaries.”

Shang Meiniang fell silent and after a long pause, said, ”Even being demoted to a commoner and confined for life, at least he would be alive.”

”You don’t understand the lord; if that’s how it turns out, he’d rather die valiantly. Confined for life, someone as proud as him wouldn’t be willing to endure it. The first half of his life was bitter enough; dragging a sick body to survive in the latter half is worse than death.”
