The Valued Lady is Truly Dominant

”...I originally planned to take advantage of this New Year’s Day to have a good talk with Lady Guan, but unexpectedly, after only a few words, she agreed. It seems she is very satisfied with your eldest son,” Princess Anping said with a smile.

Madam Song, having guessed when she entered, also showed her delight upon hearing this, stood up, and bowed to her, happily saying, ”It’s all thanks to the Princess acting as the matchmaker that this engagement went so smoothly. If the betrothal becomes official, we would have to ask you to be a witness.”

”Rest assured, since I have agreed to act as the matchmaker, I will follow through with the formal procedures,” Princess Anping replied with a smile. ”But there’s one thing, Lady Guan mentioned that Miss Guan Liu is still young, and even if the engagement is settled, she would like to keep her for two more years to teach her well.”

”Naturally.” Madam Song was not in a hurry; as long as the engagement was settled, once the child comes of age, she could repeatedly make visits to set a wedding date.

Song Ci also said, ”We have long decided that we wanted to settle the engagement first and aren’t in a hurry for the wedding date. You can reassure Lady Guan.”

Princess Anping nodded, ”If you ask me, strike while the iron is hot. Why not find a good day in the later part of January to settle it? By then, my Shou Yang will also be married, and I will be free.”

”That sounds great,” Song Ci said with a smile, ”This New Year is truly joyous. Once the Princely Heir Lu returned, the Princess’s worries vanished, showing how happiness rejuvenates the spirit.”

Princess Anping smiled with her lips pursed, ”Aren’t you afraid of being laughed at? Now that he’s back, the heavy burden on my and the Prince Consort’s hearts is lifted.”

Madam Song joined in the fun, saying that good people are blessed by heaven.

”I told you, to wait patiently because good things will come, wasn’t that right?” Song Ci said with a smile, ”It’s as heaven has arranged.”

”You are absolutely right.”

Princess Anping was about to say something when a maid entered to report that the Prime Minister had been urgently summoned to the palace and asked Madam Song to go to the main courtyard for a discussion.

Everyone was taken aback.

Another maid led a servant woman forward, saying someone from the Princess Mansion had come to ask the Princess to return immediately.

Princess Anping frowned, ”Is there something going on at the mansion?”

The servant woman respectfully said, ”It seems that a message has been sent from the palace, Prince Min has been poisoned in the Heavenly Prison, and the Prince Consort requests the Princess to return to the mansion.”

Princess Anping: ”...”

Song Ci was surprised, and looked at Princess Anping, asking, ”Did you hear any news when you entered the palace?”

Princess Anping shook her head, ”Everything was fine when I left the palace, I didn’t hear anything about Prince Min. However, Princess Consort Ji was crying noisily, wanting to see the Empress Mother, and she was punished with confinement by the Empress Mother.”

She put down her teacup and said, ”Given the circumstances, I’ll return to the mansion first. Perhaps I will have to enter the palace, I can’t be sure.”

”I will escort the Princess.” Madam Song stood up.

”The Prime Minister also wants you to go to the main courtyard, let Nanny escort me,” Princess Anping said with a smile.

Madam Song, however, dared not be negligent, ”It won’t take long, I will escort you to the second gate and return to the main courtyard, it’s nearby.”

Seeing this, Princess Anping did not insist further, bid farewell to Song Ci, and hurriedly left. Troubles like this during the New Year are truly concerning.

Song Ci looked at Nanny and clicked his tongue, saying, ”What kind of trouble is Prince Min stirring up during the New Year.”

Dragged to the Heavenly Prison on New Year’s Eve, then poisoned on New Year’s Day. Is this his way of saying Emperor Chu isn’t troubled enough, or is he intentionally choosing these days to cause him distress?
