One-Eyed Monster

Igor was a bit confused, not understanding what this meant.

These guys already knew much more than he did, and now he was still at a disadvantage. He wanted both sides to be honest with each other, but the other party remained superior, leaving him with no advantage at all.

”What you’ve done is impressive. Over the years, you’re the first to force us out this way.”

”Has anyone forced you out before?” Igor asked.

”No, so far, just you.”

Igor chuckled, feeling it was a compliment.

”You want us to be honest with each other, which is only natural. We shouldn’t conceal things from each other,” the old woman’s voice remained kind.

”How about this, ask whatever you want to know. If I can answer, I will, and if I can’t, there’s nothing I can do,” the Spirit Book’s voice was straightforward.

Igor naturally understood the current situation. To be honest, he didn’t expect to solve the problem this time. This time he was just expressing his stance and trying to negotiate if possible. He knew he didn’t have the power to completely control these entities, and all he could do was resist, but oftentimes he still chose to follow their lead. Because he knew, only by doing so could he survive the real crises, and only by doing so could he better understand these entities.

”Don’t you have any questions?” Seeing Igor’s silence, the voices were a bit puzzled.

”I want to know, when I awakened you, and you chose me, what exactly does that mean?” Igor was still brooding over the previous events. He knew these entities might not give him a complete answer, but he still wanted to understand what was going on. In his impression, as their companions said, once someone, an awaken-er, awakened a Spirit, the Spirit had no choice but to lend power to this person. He didn’t understand how these entities could choose. Previously, he always said it was they who chose him because he was too enigmatic, different from ordinary people.

Others would awaken one Spirit, but Igor, so far, should have awakened no less than three Spirits, and these Spirits didn’t have much correlation, making him wonder if he was under some spell, why was he different from most people?

”It doesn’t have any special meaning. Normally, when you awaken us, we provide you power, and it’s a mutually beneficial and happy arrangement. But you are different. After you awakened us, you rarely demanded power from us, allowing us to give you power selectively. That’s what I meant.”

Igor was skeptical, not feeling that was the whole story, but he didn’t think these Spirits were lying.

”Sometimes, we underestimate you, like just now, naturally thinking we’d fool you, but I know you’re not simple. Your previous interactions with me almost stripped me bare, so now I can’t simply regard you as a simple awaken-er,” the old woman’s voice was clearly more steady than the Spirit Book’s.

”Your response wasn’t in vain for my honesty,” Igor said, ”I can feel you are not bad entities, or else you wouldn’t have guided me through so many crucial moments. Even though asking you why you did so won’t get an answer, I at least want to know why you chose me.”

”This...” The old woman’s voice suddenly became somewhat embarrassed, never expecting Igor to ask this question. The crucial thing was, they really didn’t know why!

”What, you guys are not willing to say?”

”It’s not that we’re unwilling to say, but there’s really no why.”

”What do you mean?” Igor was perplexed, not understanding what was going on at all.

”The reason I say it’s not significant isn’t just talk. We can choose to guide you or just provide you with power!”

”You didn’t quite understand his meaning.”

The two voices chimed in together.

”What do you mean, are you teasing me?”

”No, over the years, our world has gradually been influenced by you. Originally, we only knew to awaken from sleep, but suddenly we have many emotions. These emotions make many of our kind become extremely complex, hence the notion of choice.”

”I don’t understand…”

”We know it’s a bit difficult for you to understand. It’s also not easy for us to sort this out. Now we can only cooperate with you to show our sincerity. Really, among awaken-ers, you are quite special, not even considering a bit of return, which is completely unreasonable.”

”What is reason?” Igor was very curious about what these Spirits meant by reason.

”Normally people would show their greedy nature. Even the so-called righteous people here have some selfishness, desperately trying to enhance their abilities after communicating with us. Many Spirit Entities emerge this way.”

Listening to this, Igor couldn’t help but feel suspicious. Were these Spirits really capable of changing a person’s abilities like this?

”How exactly do you provide power?” Igor suddenly shifted to another question.

”Do you really need to ask? Didn’t you go through the Border Realm?”

”Oh?” Igor was very shocked, was the Border Realm not just something imagined?

”Your talent is excellent, quickly learning to use Energy. The reason we can provide you power is simply that we see Energy more directly.”

Igor gradually began to understand something.

”We guide you this way because you are different from those greedy people. Initially, it was our novelty, wanting to see what you could do,” the old woman’s voice said.

”But later, you also awakened me, and things seemed more complicated, because I was originally a Spirit attached to the book. These Spirit Books could all communicate with me, and even now, I haven’t figured out how you managed to interact with me.”

Igor suddenly realized many things were different from his expectations. Originally, he wanted both sides to lay their cards on the table, but things had already taken a different turn.

These Spirits, with emotions, indeed became much more complex.

Igor shrugged, it seemed now they could really be honest with each other.

That’s really quite nice.
