Our Family Has Fallen

Chapter 491: Chapter 312: I’ll Know If You’re Sincere with Just One Touch_2

”Speak quickly if you have any business, and do not waste my time.”

As she spoke, she fixed her gaze directly on the old woman, as if she knew that she was the one leading the issue.

Grendel was not an arrogant person. On the contrary, she was very gentle in her dealings with others. So, when she exhibited this kind of attitude, one knew there was a reason for it.

Her pressuring stance was a read on the Romani’s soft attitude, so she decided to push firmly to test their limits, to provide a reference for the Lord’s subsequent negotiations.

Clearly, neither the woman nor the old woman showed hostility in the face of such arrogance, remaining calm as though they were completely devoid of temper.

”The reason we have come here should be very clear to your Lord. I admit there have been some misunderstandings in our previous communication, but we have come this time with sufficient sincerity to resolve these misunderstandings, and we ask the Lord to discuss this in person.”

The previous conversation had already given the impression that the man did not like to beat around the bush. Given the complex situation, the old woman had no intention of scheming and felt it was better to deal with matters directly for the benefit of everyone.

Initially, Grendel had envisioned a situation where both sides would slowly pull each other in, gradually allowing her to understand their bottom line.

But, unexpectedly, the old woman offered no resistance and immediately submitted, leaving Grendel in an awkward position, unable to proceed or retreat, unsure of what to say.

These two don’t seem to be here to clear out traitors. Their demeanor isn’t as haughty as the Lord described to me. What exactly happened here?

”I need to see your sincerity; otherwise, it will be difficult for me to convince the Lord to meet with you.”

Grendel no longer cared. She knew her task was to delay and probe their situation.

”Hamlet and the Lord will receive our Romani friendship.”

”Is this your sincerity? Just a hollow promise? I don’t think you have any sincerity at all!” Grendel said with a stern face, not hiding her intense dissatisfaction.

If they had mentioned anything else, it would have been better, but talking about this really gets me worked up.

The Deerhead Tribe had received plenty of friendships and countless promises, but when real peril came, nothing materialized.

To offer me empty promises like this is, in essence, treading on my tail, isn’t it?

The old woman had not expected such a strong reaction from Grendel. To the Romani, this was a customary opening statement because they held friendship in high regard, so it represented a form of recognition.

These words were not from someone like Tamara, who was all talk and no substance. They were from her, an Elder, and inherently represented the Romani’s attitude and willingness to cooperate.

This just highlighted how troublesome misunderstandings arising from cultural differences could be.

”Not everyone can attain the friendship of the Romani. I am speaking with your Lord, not with you. You have no right to talk to me like this,” the Elder retorted. After all, she was an elder from an extraordinary force and had a temper of her own.

For the Romani, she could swallow her pride, but insulting the Romani was not acceptable!

Suddenly, the situation became tense, and Grendel instinctively gripped her Magic Wand tighter. She could feel a power emanating from the old woman that was not inferior to that of a tribe Priest.

If conflict arises, I’m not sure I can withstand it...

”Do I have the right, then?”

With clear footsteps, a voice arrived, instantly breaking the silence that had settled in the room.

The group turned to see Lance stride in with authority and presence.

He had just finished killing, and the bloodstains on his body had not yet dried. Combined with his stern demeanor and the strong murderous aura surrounding him, he exerted the most direct pressure on the old woman.

Whether due to her age or her status as an Elder of the Seekers of Omens, she should not have been the one to speak first. Nevertheless, she humbled herself in a gesture of goodwill.

”Earl Lance, we meet again.”

”Now that you’ve come knocking, I have to come out, or my people will be bullied,” Lance inserted himself into the situation, standing beside Grendel, his gaze sweeping over the two visitors.

Lance’s discontent was plain to see. Hearing his words, the old woman felt somewhat embarrassed. However, she was beyond the age of caring for face. The Romani needed substance more now.

”The previous error was mine. I will give you a satisfactory explanation for this matter.”

”Quite the temper you have there, considering the whole cause of this affair lies with you. Yet you dare bully my people on my territory. Is this your sincerity?” Lance sneered, not softening even as the other party admitted their mistake.

I didn’t know why before, but seeing her attitude now, I’m almost certain she initiated the attack that backfired, leading to today’s situation.

Arrogant first and then respectful later. The thought is laughable.

Lance’s attitude made it difficult for the Elder to save face. Her status among the Romani symbolized a great deal. Even disregarding her position, as a Transcendent, she deserved respect for her power.

Lance is actually open to discussion; otherwise, he wouldn’t have had me hold them back.

His behavior is simply to vent his anger. Although it’s satisfying to see them at a disadvantage, it does nothing to help the situation.

”It’s all a misunderstanding,” Grendel interjected, trying to ease the tension. ”Perhaps we had some minor issues in our wording due to not being familiar with each other, but I believe that if we continue to communicate, these misunderstandings will be resolved.”
