Our Family Has Fallen

Chapter 459: Chapter 297: Elders’ Council Resolution_1

”Oh, you are the Lord of that place, aren’t you?”

Indeed, Lance knew from her words that in the interim, Tamara must have communicated with her superiors and obtained the intelligence Amanda had gathered.

But it was precisely because of this that the old woman was willing to truly communicate. Compared to Lance’s words, they placed more trust in the intelligence they themselves had gathered.

However, Lance didn’t care; he had never intended to hide anything.

”That’s right, I am the last heir of Hamlet—Lance Hamlet.”

Only after hearing this did the old woman become somewhat formal. ”I am pleased to meet you, Earl Lance.”

Lance, however, did not care about these false formalities and went straight to the point.

”This matter caused quite a stir at the time; you should know something about it.”

”Regarding this matter, we did indeed hear many interesting accounts. There were claims it was the work of the Empire’s Emperor, others said it was foreign invaders, or even pirates, but...” The old woman looked at Lance curiously, revealing the final theory. ”Some say it was the Lord of Hamlet who destroyed everything.”

Lance knew that no matter how cautious his ancestors had been, the project had been too vast. As information dealers, the Romani were bound to have some knowledge of it.

Lance wasn’t clear about the first few rumors either, but since he was now dealing with his ancestor’s mess, he absolutely couldn’t let the last theory stand. He immediately began to explain with feigned solemnity.

”The incident back then wasn’t so simple; in fact, there was something else that happened before it.

”If you have even the slightest understanding of Hamlet, you should know that in that battle, almost the entire nobility of Hamlet was wiped out.

”Although the Lord at that time escaped by chance, he was then controlled by an evil cult called the Ascension Sect...”

Lance was a professional at spinning tales. However, in front of another professional, he didn’t dare to be too outlandish, so he wove the truths he had gathered into his story, mixing nine parts truth with one part falsehood.

”The evil cult took control of the Lord, and their objective was the sealing node beneath Hamlet, a cage that imprisoned a Primordial God.

”The Ascension they sought was to awaken the Primordial God and bring destruction to the world—the very truth Tamara witnessed during her star-gazing ritual that year.

”However, our family still had a contingency in place. Even if Hamlet were destroyed, they would not succeed, leaving behind only the incomplete ritual.”

The existence of the Primordial God and the truth of the world weren’t secrets Lance couldn’t speak of.

For him, there was only one secret: his true identity and his facade—things he absolutely could not let anyone know.

The news that had once stunned Dismas didn’t provoke much reaction from the old woman before him. They were on different levels and had access to different information.

To the old woman, these things weren’t particularly surprising. The Romani dealt with prophecies, and throughout their long history, filled with all sorts of chaotic predictions, it seemed the world was always either on the brink of collapse or heading steadily towards it.

Evil cults were especially fond of spreading apocalyptic lies.

But after so many years of supposedly imminent collapse, she had yet to see the world truly fall apart. Instead, everything seemed stable and improving, full of vitality and prosperous growth.

Honestly, she didn’t really believe Lance’s words.

”By the time I returned, Hamlet had already been destroyed by the evil cult. They still occupy it, constantly attempting to disrupt the seal and push forward with the ritual to awaken the Primordial God, bringing destruction to the world.”

”What are you trying to say?”

Faced with this question, Lance fell silent. Before meeting the old woman, he’d thought he could use his information advantage to shock her and show off impressively.

But in reality, she couldn’t have cared less. In the face of these Supernatural Organizations, which had accumulated knowledge for who knew how many years, he truly felt out of his depth.

The so-called ’showing off only to be slapped down’ was basically unlikely to happen in real life. A flop was a flop. How could those capable of showing off be flops?

That was simply a joke.

”The matter is just that: if the evil cult succeeds, the world ends, and no one escapes. I’m not asking you to help me; just don’t hinder me. And since you don’t think much of Tamara, why not just hand her over to me?”

Lance had adjusted his mindset, now taking a carefree stance.

The old woman found this somewhat amusing after hearing it. ”And what makes you think you’re in a position to demand what we do?”

”Spying isn’t as straightforward as it seems. Your Seeker of Omens, Amanda, who has been causing trouble on my territory, is now under my control. It’s not about what I demand from you; it’s about what you owe me as compensation.”

Perhaps Lance’s attitude struck her as offensive, as the old woman’s expression became serious.

”What if I say no?”

”That’s simple. Whoever hinders me, I’ll spend the rest of my life doing nothing but tormenting them. As long as I’m alive, I’ll ensure they never have a day of peace. Let’s see whether they reproduce faster, or if I kill them off quicker.”

As the saying goes, ’he who desires nothing is formidable.’ Lance realized that, having no demands of them, he didn’t need to be obsequious at all.

If I’m displeased, I’ll cut you down. Anyone who offends me must die.

The old woman held a position of high authority, and it had been many years since anyone had dared to speak to her in such a manner. She had agreed to meet him solely for the sake of the Sacred Object, and now he was threatening her?

Just a Master, yet so arrogant—did he truly believe the Romani had no one formidable?

”Hmph! You need to show the proper respect to the Elders.”

Her position as an Elder hadn’t come from any underhanded schemes but from true strength!
