So afraid of the Heretics?

Su Changxing hadn’t expected Ordinary People to react this way to the Heretics. It seemed that the Empire regularly propagated information about the Heretics.

”Don’t be afraid, I won’t kill you.”

Su Changxing’s expressionless demeanor made the two of them even more terrified, as if he were a Butcher telling the pigs about to be slaughtered, I won’t harm you.

The older man quickly calmed down and cautiously asked, ”Is there something you need?”

Su Changxing’s appearance clearly indicated he had business with them; otherwise, he wouldn’t be so patient in speaking with them.

Su Changxing tried to give a smile he considered kind, ”I want to ask what happened here. Why is everyone dead? Last time I was here, it wasn’t like this.”

The man saw Su Changxing covered in blood and felt deeply fearful,

”Due to the plague spreading in Maelon, those damned Nobility threw all the plague patients to the outer city and ordered the blockade of all roads, then sent mechanical monsters to massacre the city. They said they needed to wipe out the plague here, or everyone would be doomed.”

”Now, even if we want to leave, it’s impossible. All the ships at the port have either been taken away or destroyed.”

”Of course, not everyone is dead. These monsters seem to only operate within a certain range, but the plague spread widely, leaving very few survivors.”

The man did not hide anything, revealing everything without hesitation as he watched for any change in Su Changxing’s expression, but found none.

Indeed, a massacre.

Su Changxing guessed it was likely due to the Source of Plague, prompting Maelon’s higher-ups to resort to extreme measures.

However, this was a plan they had prepared in advance, possibly considered before but not implemented as the plague wasn’t severe at first.

Noticing the sores on the man’s face, Su Changxing said, ”You have the plague too. It seems you don’t have long to live.”

The man took a deep breath, ”There’s nothing we can do about it. The plague has ravaged everyone, and those of us left have mild symptoms.”

His words carried deep despair, yet a numbness, so numb it suppressed the awareness of his own despair.

”What is your name?”

”Mike.”

”Is she your daughter?”

”Yes.”

”I can save you, rid you of the plague.”

Hearing Su Changxing’s words, Mike’s eyes widened, unable to discern if this was a joke or serious.

Su Changxing looked at the bewildered Mike and continued, ”Do you know where the survivors are staying? I’d like to meet them.”

Mike hesitated briefly, ”No problem, they’re not far from here. I’ll take you now... But sir, can you really cure our plague?”

Su Changxing smiled a little and said, ”Earlier, didn’t you say I was a Heretic? I know Magic; Magic might solve this issue.”

At this moment, the woman took a few steps forward, interrupting, ”Father! He’s a Heretic. Bringing him there will doom everyone.”

Su Changxing looked at the young woman, about to say something.

But Mike slapped her loudly, shouting, ”

What nonsense are you spewing? We’re already as good as dead. If the sir wants to save us, then that is a blessing, an Orthodox act.”

The woman, stunned with the slap, stood in a daze and said no more, bowing her head behind Mike.

Mike quickly turned to Su Changxing, changing his expression to a smile, ”Sir, my daughter is immature. Please forgive us; we are willing to do anything for you as long as you can cure our plague.”

As for their plague, for Su Changxing, it is a trivial matter.

While speaking, Su Changxing had already absorbed the plague from them, merely leaving the festering sores unhealed.

Then, following Mike, he wound through paths to a riverside abandoned factory.

Here gathered nearly all the survivors.

As for Mike and his group, they originally came here to seek food but unexpectedly encountered the Rune Warrior.

”Previously, those mechanical monsters didn’t venture here, but for some reason, today we encountered them, truly unlucky.”

”Luckily, we met you, sir, otherwise my daughter and I would surely have been decapitated by those mechanical monsters.”

Mike, leading the way in front, engaged in conversation at the entrance while feeling relieved, thinking this Heretic like Su Changxing didn’t seem so different from Ordinary People.

A riverside abandoned factory, overgrown with weeds, and walls covered with ivy, revealed several people active inside, surrounded by some discarded corpses by the factory.

Su Changxing examined the factory and asked, ”Are there many people inside?

Mike said, ”Not many, some were originally living nearby, avoiding the massacre, and some arrived from the sea.”

Su Changxing nodded and followed Mike toward the abandoned factory.

Getting closer.

On the platform above the factory gate, a guard held a gun, shouting as he saw the three of them, ”Where are the others? Where did everyone who went out with you go?”

Mike raised both hands and said, ”We encountered those mechanical monsters; they were all killed. Only my daughter and I survived.”

The people above weren’t surprised by this answer, as they had sent out a group just a few days ago, who never returned, prompting them to send out Mike’s group to find food.

”Who is he? I don’t remember seeing him among those who left with you.” The sharp-eyed person upstairs focused on Su Changxing, perhaps because his face was uncovered.

Mike shouted back to the person on the platform, ”He saved us from those mechanical monsters.”

Mike didn’t voluntarily disclose any details about Su Changxing, instead choosing to conceal information.

The person on the platform scrutinized Su Changxing and then asked, ”How bad is his plague?”

”Not bad, only mild symptoms.”

”Come in.”

As the chains lifted, the factory’s iron gate slowly rose, revealing a person-high gap.

”Sir, follow me inside.”

Mike half-crouched, holding a knife, and slipped through the gate gap.

Su Changxing followed, bending down to slip in from behind.

The air carried a faint stench, likely from rotting corpses, with a few decaying bodies hanging from the ceiling not far away.

The people inside the factory all looked at him with peculiar eyes.

Some were bare-bodied, with strange patterns branded into their skin, covering the sores from the plague.
