Global Game: I Have Portable Store

Gu Xingrong turned his head to look at Xu Wenfeng and said with a smile, ”It’s not that difficult for us Players to become Extraordinary beings; it just takes a little time.”

”Are you so sure?” Su Changxing asked.

”Yes, otherwise what would be the point of us Players?” Gu Xingrong affirmed.

Ordinary people don’t see it that clearly. Even Players are eager to become Extraordinary by any means necessary.

Su Changxing nodded and said meaningfully, ”What if you can’t become Extraordinary?”

Gu Xingrong’s lips curled up slightly, his expression strange. He said, ”It doesn’t really matter. Does not being Extraordinary mean you can’t survive? Besides, Extraordinary beings aren’t necessarily invincible against me.”

After the gunfire earlier, the nearby streets were empty. In the distance, some people peeked out, trying to see what had happened here.

”Let’s take a walk up ahead.”

Su Changxing said, walking forward and noticing the top of the streetlamp at the intersection still had about a dozen bloody corpses hanging, seemingly put up not long ago.

”What’s that?” he turned his head to ask Gu Xingrong.

Gu Xingrong explained, ”Those are the corpses of Doomsday Cultists, put up by the authorities for others to see as a warning.”

Su Changxing caught the scent of blood from the corpses and thought aloud, ”It seems they were just put up recently.”

Gu Xingrong nodded, ”Yes, just in the past few days. But it has angered some hidden Doomsday Cultists. In truth, the tension between us isn’t that severe. As long as the Doomsday Cultists don’t cause trouble, we leave them be.”

Su Changxing smiled a little and said, ”He’s a clever guy.”

This administrator was clearly showing his stance, knowing the Security Bureau and Doomsday Cult are like water and fire. Seeing Security Bureau people coming, he immediately distanced himself from the Doomsday Cultists and took a side.

This is crucial for them.

In the apocalypse, there’s no law. Whoever has the power is emperor. Apart from foreign Wizards, Team 17 is clearly the overlord here.

The Security Bureau can be police, military, or even bandits and robbers. According to Su Changxing, some shady dealings have been done privately by the lower ranks, just not revealed openly, but handled in secret.

Team 17 is a clear line of order amidst the chaos of the apocalyptic Donglin Region.

Order is eternal. Chaos brings order. Without Team 17, other orders would arise.

The administrator of He Kou County doesn’t want to submit to the Security Bureau’s command but is also afraid of them, fearful of being handled as a Doomsday Cultist.

”Is he ready to flee at the first sign of trouble? No wonder he’s survived the apocalypse.”

Su Changxing mused. The administrator didn’t reveal his location, not just guarding against the Doomsday Cult, but against them as well.

Gu Xingrong looked around warily and whispered, ”Sir, you’d better be careful. Coming in like this, all Doomsday Cultists here will likely target you. Some of them aren’t just Extraordinary beings but possess various means.”

Su Changxing casually put a hand on his shoulder and said, ”They’re coming to kill us anyway, so why be tense? Besides, I don’t believe they’ll dare to attack openly.”

Gu Xingrong’s face twitched, and he retorted, ”If you die here, the soldiers outside might charge in immediately, turning this place into chaos.”

Xu Wenfeng interjected, ”What does that have to do with you?”

Gu Xingrong gave him a sidelong glare, ”I’m the sheriff here! Who doesn’t know that wherever your Team 17 goes, it leaves a mess behind!”

Su Changxing raised an eyebrow, ”Is our reputation that bad?”

”Nearly a million people died miserably in Donglin City because of your retreat, while Chenxi’s troops dared to fight to the death, yet you ran... ”

His voice trailed off, realizing he probably shouldn’t have said that.

Bang~

Xu Wenfeng hit him to the ground, scolding, ”What nonsense are you saying!”

Gu Xingrong squatted on the ground, silent, yet saw Su Changxing only looking up at the corpses hanging from the streetlamp.

”Hanging like this is creepy. Have someone take them down later and burn them.”

Su Changxing dipped a finger in some blood about to coagulate on the pole and said.

”Okay, chief.” Xu Wenfeng nodded.

Su Changxing turned to Gu Xingrong and said, ”You seem to live quite comfortably here.”

”Comfortably?” Gu Xingrong stood up from the ground, dusting off the mud on his coat, and looked back at Su Changxing in confusion.

Su Changxing asked again, ”Have you seen those Wizards? Even though you’re a Player, you probably know nothing about them.”

”I haven’t met them,” Gu Xingrong sighed and said.

Elba shook his head, looking at Gu Xingrong.

Su Changxing laughed and said, ”Many people haven’t seen them, only heard of them, because most who’ve seen them are already dead.”

”An ordinary Wizard can rival a Tier Eight Extraordinary, and there are even stronger ones. How do you expect us to fight? Even someone like you, not an Extraordinary, can become a sheriff here.”

Gu Xingrong’s face flushed with embarrassment, not knowing how to respond to Su Changxing.

...

”Sir, aren’t we taking action? Those Security Bureau people are right there, blatantly provoking us!”

A man wearing a black mask said urgently.

Standing opposite him was another man also wearing a black mask, just with a slightly different design, with more intricate patterns on it.

”Why rush? This looks like bait, waiting for us to bite. Let’s see what they intend to do.”

Though he said this, he was fully focused on his phone screen.

[Mission (Cause of Doomsday, S-level): You’ve discovered the factor triggering the apocalypse. Strive to eliminate it to prevent the true apocalypse from occurring.]

This was his first S-level mission; the highest before was only B-level, and the mission’s target was aimed directly at that Security Bureau officer.

But the mission details left him extremely puzzled; this wasn’t a mission from the Doomsday Game, but one from the Doomsday Cult.

The Doomsday Cult’s missions usually involved slaughter, were negative, and extreme, but offered generous rewards to rapidly boost one’s power.

It was like a drug. Completing one mission would make it hard to resist the next, and the feeling of rapid power growth was addictive.

”This isn’t right, there’s something off.”

He murmured, looking up to find other people with the same puzzled eyes.

”Did you all receive it too?”

Everyone in the room nodded.

”I fear not only us but every Doomsday Cultist here received it!”

”Who exactly is he?”

”We better not stick our necks out, watch how things go, and avoid rash actions. If necessary, we can leave; the world is vast, we can go anywhere.”

”But the mission’s rewards must be extremely tempting as well.”

Another person hesitated, his eyes filled with greed, as no one could imagine what rewards an S-level task might offer. It could certainly catapult one to great heights.

”I’ve made it clear; if you rush to your death, don’t drag me along. This mission looks shady: ’Cause of Doomsday’? Do they think we’re saviors?” said someone squatting in the corner, adjusting his mask with a cold laugh.

That man stood up and proclaimed loudly, ”Are so many of us afraid of just one person? Now that the soldiers are outside, we can kill and leave; what is there to fear!”
