Reborn One Week Before the Apocalypse

“I love you so much. Why couldn’t you wait for me?”

Qin Ling’s last words were full of anguish, making him sound like a mistreated little boy.

In the presence of the one they love, anyone can become a child. Even the strongest of people will feel as vulnerable as a child who has been wronged.

If Tang Mo were conscious and saw this, her heart would have melted. She would have pulled her little boy into a tight embrace.

But alas, Tang Mo couldn’t hear him.

However, while Tang Mo couldn’t hear, a certain little thing could: the pink pearl in her Sea of Consciousness.

The more Qin Ling spoke, the more the pink pearl grew, like a seed absorbing nutrients. It slowly expanded, storing more and more energy.

The purer and more sincere the emotion, the greater the energy.

Before anyone knew it, the pink pearl had grown even larger. But it still wasn’t enough; it was still striving to grow…

It was just that no one on the outside knew a thing about any of this.

For the next few days, Qin Ling was occupied with the Sect Leader and Lin Yu.

After all, the Sect Leader would need to merge his energy with Qin Ling’s, so the two had to become extremely familiar with one another.

This was necessary to get in deep contact with the Agility Pearl, which would then be used to repair Tang Mo’s Sea of Consciousness.

Therefore, the Sect Leader had to spend long periods inside Qin Ling’s Sea of Consciousness.

The Sect Leader and Qin Ling weren’t familiar with each other. At first, he was very reserved and cautious, afraid that Qin Ling might object, or that the energy in Qin Ling’s Sea of Consciousness might subconsciously attack him.

But that didn’t happen at all.

Qin Ling was extremely cooperative, as was his Sea of Consciousness.

After all, his Sea of Consciousness and its energy were extensions of his conscious self; Qin Ling’s will was paramount.

Seeing that Qin Ling didn’t mind in the slightest, the Sect Leader gradually relaxed and began the process of familiarizing and synchronizing with Qin Ling’s energy and the Agility Pearl.

In truth, Qin Ling really didn’t mind. If it would increase the chance of success even by a fraction, he would do anything. He wouldn’t just let someone enter his Sea of Consciousness; he would let them attack it if he had to.

Qin Ling’s unconditional cooperation allowed things to progress smoothly. However, Tang Mo’s body was growing weaker by the day. The rampaging energy within her couldn’t be suppressed for much longer before it would break free, surge through her entire body, and cause her to explode.

They couldn’t wait much longer.

Over the past few days, when Qin Ling wasn’t assisting the Sect Leader and Lin Yu with their experiments, he was in Tang Mo’s tent.

He had taken over all the tasks that originally belonged to Lin Yi, including washing Tang Mo’s body and changing her clothes.

At a time like this, worrying about the propriety between men and women seemed rather pointless.

Lin Yi had initially been a little resentful that Qin Ling’s arrival meant she had less time with Momo. But on second thought, she realized that without Qin Ling, Momo would have no hope of waking up at all. With that, she let it go.

In fact, ever since they learned that Qin Ling had chosen to abandon everything to save Momo without a moment’s hesitation, they had all come to fully accept his love for her.

True love is forged in adversity. It’s a sad truth, perhaps, but the depth of a relationship is often only revealed through hardship.

To be on the safe side, the Sect Leader and Qin Ling ran another simulation.

The test subject naturally had to be a Spiritual Ability User, and with no one else available, Lin Yu was the most suitable candidate.

Lin Yu was already quite familiar with the Sect Leader, and given the special nature of the Sect Leader’s spiritual power, rejection was unlikely.

At first, Lin Yu’s body was highly resistant to Qin Ling’s energy. But to achieve a better simulation, he repeatedly had to psych himself up, forcing himself not to instinctively reject the invasion of another’s energy.

After multiple attempts, the three of them succeeded.

Guided by the Sect Leader’s spiritual power, they successfully transferred the energy from the Agility Pearl that Qin Ling had fused with into Lin Yu’s body.

Of course, they withdrew it just as quickly.

As long as neither side resisted and the energy wasn’t activated, withdrawing it was no problem at all.

This successful test greatly boosted everyone’s confidence.

However, Lin Yu’s energy was far weaker than Tang Mo’s. On the other hand, Tang Mo’s body would certainly be far more receptive to Qin Ling’s energy than Lin Yu’s was. Factoring in the many uncertainties, the final probability of success was still impossible to determine.

But as the days passed, they ran out of time to devise a better plan or to hesitate any longer.

The day they decided to proceed with the plan was a rare, clear day. The sun, which hadn’t been seen for a long time, shone warmly on the Protective Shield.

Everyone looked up at the sunlight like plants enjoying photosynthesis, replenishing their energy.

Meanwhile, Qin Ling sat in the tent, holding Tang Mo’s hand, speaking to her one last time before the plan commenced.

He had been talking to Tang Mo every day, but before they were to begin, he asked for a little more time to be alone with Momo.

“Don’t be afraid. It’ll be over soon. It’ll be over soon…”

Qin Ling just kept repeating this phrase in a murmur, it was unclear if he was comforting Tang Mo or himself.

‘How could Momo be afraid? She’s not even conscious.’

‘The one who’s afraid is me.’

That’s right. Qin Ling was terrified, so he had bought himself some time to hide his fear as best he could.

He was so afraid of losing Momo, but now, he had no other choice.

No choice at all.

But what Qin Ling didn’t know was that, at this very moment, his fear of losing her was being converted into nourishment and fed to the pink pearl in Tang Mo’s Sea of Consciousness.

After absorbing that fear, the pearl’s volume suddenly exploded. It was already much larger than the other Attribute Pearls, and now it swelled like a balloon on the verge of popping…

POP!

The pink pearl finally burst, and all its energy erupted at once.

However, this pink-glowing energy didn’t scatter throughout Tang Mo’s body. Instead, it shot off, attempting to connect with her true consciousness…

The surrounding area had been secured by the Sect Leader’s and Qin Ling’s people. No one was allowed near; besides the Sect Leader, Qin Ling, and Tang Mo, there wasn’t a fourth person in sight.

Inside Tang Mo’s tent, aside from the Sect Leader and Qin Ling, piles of Crystal Stones and all sorts of abnormal treasures were stacked high.

These were preparations in case they ran short on energy.

“Shall we begin?” the Sect Leader said as he lifted the tent flap and entered.

What must be faced, must be faced. After so much research and experimentation, they were actually quite confident.

As long as nothing unexpected happened…

Soon, both Qin Ling and the Sect Leader were seated on either side of Tang Mo, preparing to begin the procedure they had rehearsed countless times.

Before they began, the Sect Leader first sent out his spiritual power to check the current condition of Tang Mo’s Sea of Consciousness.

Logically, after all this time, most of the energy in her Sea of Consciousness should have already dissipated into the rest of her body.

But…

The Sect Leader frowned.

‘Something’s wrong. This is completely different from what we predicted.’
