Reborn One Week Before the Apocalypse

Chapter 453: Chapter 443: Counter-Kill

Xu Ru had even thought it all out. Once things got better, she would first have Zhang Laohu kill her parents.

Then, she would report him to the police and have him arrested. That way, no one would ever know what happened, and she could live on with a spotless reputation.

After this series of events, Xu Ru had grown increasingly ruthless.

Or perhaps she had been born this ruthless, and her recent experiences had merely accelerated the process.

Like mother, like daughter. Their little schemes were cut from the same cloth—utterly ruthless and cold.

However, the mother-daughter duo was getting ahead of themselves. In their eyes, Zhang Laohu was an all-powerful, incredible figure.

In reality, he was nothing more than a security team captain who had gotten lucky, awakened a superpower, and scrounged up some food.

At that moment, everyone in the property management center was lost in their own thoughts, and Zhang Laohu was no exception.

He was frustrated that despite feeding her so much, the woman he’d set his sights on still genuinely wanted nothing to do with him.

On the other hand, he was also calculating. There were four people here. Even if those two worthless old geezers only ate a few mouthfuls, the food would run out soon.

If they just sat around eating through their supplies, none of them would likely survive until the day the world returned to normal.

’So, how can I find more food?’

Zhang Laohu stroked his right arm, his eyes closed in thought.

A few days ago, Xu Yuanshan had indeed crippled his right arm. The bones inside were completely shattered. Forget about going to a hospital now; even if he could, it would be absolutely impossible for such a comminuted fracture to heal completely in a short amount of time.

But now, Zhang Laohu felt his right arm was almost completely healed.

He clenched his fist, feeling the Strength in his body concentrate in his right hand.

In this world, the bodies of superpower users had self-healing capabilities, especially for physical injuries. The better a person’s physical constitution, the faster they recovered.

He had realized this back when Tang Mo had crippled his right arm and tied him up.

When Tang Mo and Mr. Xu left the property management center back then, she had crippled one of each man’s arms as a precaution—specifically, the right one.

Tang Mo’s method was simple: she just broke the bone in their right arms.

But after only about three days, Zhang Laohu discovered his right arm no longer hurt at all. Although he was tied up and couldn’t test if it had truly recovered, it at least felt completely fine.

Later, he was beaten even more brutally by Xu Yuanshan. Now, four days after that, he was completely certain his body possessed a self-healing ability.

This was something that even Tang Mo hadn’t anticipated.

After all, in Tang Mo’s own world, only Spirit Attribute Superpower Users possessed healing abilities.

Zhang Laohu was very satisfied with this change in his body. ’Since I have this special ability, I have to make good use of it...’

An idea began to form in Zhang Laohu’s mind.

After Tang Mo returned home, life settled back into a peaceful routine. The three-month mark was drawing closer, with just over thirty days left.

Although Xu Shan was no longer thinking of leaving, she was fraught with worry every day. Both Tang Mo and Zhou Jingyi could see she was concerned about her brother out there.

Tang Mo, of course, didn’t get involved. As for Zhou Jingyi, she also pretended not to notice, instead making sure to chat with Xu Shan and have her play with Pingping and An’an every day. This actually made Xu Shan feel more and more a part of the family.

Xu Jinsan felt a deep affection for his older sister. Being a typical, less-observant man, he didn’t notice the worry in Xu Shan’s expression.

All Xu Jinsan saw was Xu Shan getting along wonderfully with his wife and the two little kids every day, which made him overjoyed.

If that brother of theirs hadn’t been there preventing her from leaving, he would have brought his sister over to live comfortably with them long ago.

Xu Jinsan was an extremely grateful person. He knew full well that without his sister’s help and support back then, he never would have finished college, gotten on his feet in the city, and built a happy family.

As for his brother, he had initially wanted to make up for the lost years and rekindle their relationship. But he spent quite a bit of money only to be met with increasing demands and ungrateful behavior. Over time, what little brotherly affection there was had all but vanished.

Aside from Xu Yuanshan’s routine yearly calls to ask for money, they had almost no other contact.

As the days passed, a lot of food still remained in the kitchen freezer. Plus, Tang Mo felt that Mr. and Mrs. Xu were behaving well enough, so she slowly began to secretly move things out from the small storeroom in her room.

Zhou Jingyi kept a mental tally of the household supplies, so she could sense that her niece was bringing things out.

But Zhou Jingyi also knew her niece had a mind of her own and had some supplies stocked in her room. So, she simply put away whatever Tang Mo brought out, never saying a word or asking any questions.

The two of them maintained this tacit understanding. The family’s meals became better and better; not only did they have two meals a day, but they could also eat their fill at nearly every one.

”Our meals have been so good lately, but how come the amount of food in the kitchen never seems to go down?”

Xu Jinsan was an unobservant man, but even someone as oblivious as him would notice something was up after a while.

”Just eat. Can’t all this food shut your mouth?” Zhou Jingyi said, placing a piece of meat in her husband’s bowl.

Chewing on the meat, Xu Jinsan obediently shut his mouth.

Xu Jinsan adapted quickly to Zhou Jingyi’s change in demeanor. He had always been a good-tempered man, and he saw nothing wrong with how his wife was acting now.

Tang Mo, on the other hand, was very happy about Zhou Jingyi’s transformation. With Mrs. Xu acting like this, she wouldn’t have to worry about them when she eventually left.

A husband and wife in a family should complement each other.

Before, both Xu Jinsan and Zhou Jingyi had been too good-natured, which was why they were bullied and met with a tragic end.

Now that Zhou Jingyi could stand up for herself and also keep Xu Jinsan in line, their family was bound to have a better and better future.

Tang Mo ate her meal in satisfaction, watching Pingping and An’an play on the living room carpet. She planned to spend the next month as if she were on vacation.

Nowadays, there was almost no positive content on any of the major social media platforms. Every household was starving.

The platforms were filled with posts from people complaining, ranting, contemplating suicide, or begging for help. The screens were flooded with cries of ”SOS.”

No one wanted to see that kind of content. It was like a clay idol trying to cross a river—everyone was struggling just to save themselves. Who had the ability to save anyone else?

However, the group chat for the homeowners in Tang Mo’s residential community was still very active, and the atmosphere was surprisingly lively.
