Reborn One Week Before the Apocalypse

Chapter 457: Chapter 447: Home Delivery

As for Xu Yuanshan, the wife and daughter he’d always treasured treated him worse than his enemy, Zhang Laohu.

Not only did they never give him any food, but when Zhang Laohu brought him something to eat, Tan Jing would even wear a look of disgust.

Everyone knew that under these circumstances, Xu Yuanshan wouldn’t live much longer. Even if he managed to hang on, he would just become an invalid—a burden to them.

It would be better if he just died sooner. He’d be out of his misery, and it would save everyone some food.

You have to admit, some stories in this world unfold in the most unbelievable ways.

Xu Yuanshan probably never imagined that one day his own family would treat him worse than a scoundrel.

Xu Yuanshan had long since lost the will to live. But as long as there was food in front of him, it was truly difficult to choose starvation as a way to die. That kind of thing required an incredible amount of willpower.

When you fall into a position of weakness, it feels like the whole world turns against you.

Meanwhile, Tang Mo sensed Zhang Laohu moving in her direction.

Ever since their last encounter, she had been monitoring each of them with her spiritual power, though she wasn’t checking on them 24/7.

And now, Tang Mo could sense that Zhang Laohu was getting closer and closer.

’Just caused trouble, and now he’s back for more? Zhang Laohu really doesn’t know when to quit.’

At first, Tang Mo wasn’t sure who Zhang Laohu’s target was this time. But then she remembered that her ”cousin’s” family was still at the management center, and it all clicked.

’Looks like Zhang Laohu knows about the large food supply her family has now.’

’Perfect. Even if he hadn’t come, I was planning to go find him anyway. This just saves me a trip.’

Tang Mo glanced at Mrs. Xu, who still wore a worried expression, then at Zhang Laohu striding toward their home. She couldn’t help but think, ’If Mrs. Xu knew her worst fears were about to come true, I can’t imagine how devastated she’d be.’

’But since I’m here now, what shouldn’t happen, absolutely will not happen.’

[Tao Jiayun]: Even though we can’t get the team together right now, if anyone runs into an emergency later, you can still call on me anytime. I’m always around.

Tao Jiayun couldn’t rally anyone anymore, but even if he was the only one left, he was still willing to help everyone.

Tang Mo nodded. ’As expected of a guy from the police academy. He has potential.’

It was just a shame that after several months of the apocalypse, Tao Jiayun was still an ordinary person with no superpower.

That was why this time, Tang Mo didn’t plan on letting anyone else get involved—she didn’t even want Mr. and Mrs. Xu to know.

”Dad, Mom, I’m going to my room to sleep for a bit.”

At that moment, Xu Jinsan was on the balcony smoking, while Zhou Jingyi and Xu Shan were in Pingping and An’an’s room.

After calling out, Tang Mo slipped out the door.

She could already sense him: Zhang Laohu was almost at the entrance to their building.

In truth, neither Tang Mo nor Xu Yin had any major grudge against Zhang Laohu. As for any debts he owed, Tang Mo had already collected them on Xu Yin’s behalf.

Tang Mo was only making a move this time to prevent future trouble.

After all, leaving a potential threat like him around meant there was no telling what might happen later.

Tang Mo didn’t like surprises. All potential threats had to be nipped in the bud.

So Tang Mo didn’t even need to lift a finger. As Zhang Laohu made his way through the fog, not yet having reached the building, she simply had to erect a square, open-topped barrier of spiritual power around him. Then, she could just watch as he struggled inside—confused, anxious, angry, and finally, afraid.

As a superpower user, Zhang Laohu could linger in the toxic fog longer than an ordinary person.

That was why, for such a short distance, he hadn’t run but had strode confidently, using up some of his precious time on the way.

Just as he saw the address Xu Ru had given him right before his eyes, just as his heart filled with joy at the thought of all the food that would soon be his, he found he could no longer take another step.

There was clearly nothing around him, yet when he lifted his foot, he felt it hit a solid panel. He tried a different direction, but it was the same.

Zhang Laohu reached out, his hands brushing against invisible walls in the empty air. It felt like he was trapped.

’But... but there’s nothing here!’

Zhang Laohu felt like he was going insane.

He swung his fists, trying to punch his way out, but it was useless. The toxic fog was still thick in the air, and he could feel himself inhaling it, bit by bit.

His time out in the open was running out.

Fear finally gripped Zhang Laohu. He figured the interval since his last trip outside had been too short, so he hadn’t fully recovered. He must have inhaled too much of the toxic fog, causing him to go crazy and start hallucinating.

Zhang Laohu felt his head growing dizzier and dizzier, until at last, consumed by terror, he crumpled to the ground and stopped breathing.

Tang Mo stood to the side, watching everything unfold. Then, she took out her phone, snapped a picture, and sent it to Tao Jiayun.

”Zhang Laohu died outside my building. Let everyone in the group know.”

Tao Jiayun, who had been sitting at home looking dejected, saw the message pop up on his phone, and his eyes lit up.

’Zhang Laohu is dead?!’

’Doesn’t that mean he and everyone else are safe now!’

’But how did Zhang Laohu die? And why outside her building? From the picture, it doesn’t look like he was beaten to death. No, wait, even if he was, there’s no way a single girl could have taken down Zhang Laohu!’

Tao Jiayun’s mind was reeling with questions.

”What were you doing downstairs?”

’With the toxic fog and dangerous people out there, no sane person would go outside right now.’

”Just went for a walk.”

Tao Jiayun was exasperated. ’Even if she doesn’t want to tell me, could she at least come up with a slightly more believable excuse? Is she just brushing me off because she thinks I’m an idiot?’

Of course, Tang Mo didn’t think Tao Jiayun was an idiot. In fact, she knew he was a smart man.

And with a smart person, you didn’t need to spell everything out.

Sure enough, Tao Jiayun didn’t disappoint her; he asked no more questions.

Soon after, Tao Jiayun posted the photo in the group chat, announcing the news of Zhang Laohu’s death.

This undoubtedly gave everyone a huge sense of security. The villain was finally dead; they no longer had to live in fear.

As for how he died, everyone naturally credited Tao Jiayun, respecting and trusting him even more.

And while Tao Jiayun felt he didn’t deserve their respect, he also understood that the young woman didn’t want to step into the limelight. So, he could only reluctantly and silently accept the credit.

Before going back inside, Tang Mo did one last sweep of the area with her spiritual power. After confirming the living room was empty, she tiptoed back to her room as if nothing had ever happened.
