Reborn One Week Before the Apocalypse

Chapter 458: Chapter 448: Revenge

In this world, there were no mutant beasts, and superpowers were not well-developed. So, for Tang Mo, dealing with these bad guys was an incredibly easy task.

The people of this world didn’t even know what spiritual power was. Just like Zhang Laohu, who died without ever knowing what killed him.

With Zhang Laohu gone for good, the residential complex’s owners were so excited that they all cooked an extra cup of rice that night.

But of course, there were people who weren’t happy—namely, Tan Jing and her daughter.

From the moment Zhang Laohu left, the mother-daughter duo had started fantasizing about moving into Xu Jinsan’s big house.

But they waited and waited, and still, Zhang Laohu didn’t return.

The sky gradually darkened...

”Mom, you don’t think something happened, do you?”

Xu Ru asked Tan Jing worriedly.

If Zhang Laohu could have seen Xu Ru actually showing concern for him, he would have been thrilled. But alas, he would never see it.

”No way. Who could possibly beat him?”

Tan Jing had great faith in Zhang Laohu’s strength. It was definitely not the strength of an ordinary person. Although Tan Jing didn’t know anything about superpower users, she believed Zhang Laohu was born with Divine Power.

As for Xu Jinsan’s family—a man who didn’t work and three women—how could they possibly be a match for Zhang Laohu?

However, Tan Jing was also a little worried, though not that Zhang Laohu had failed his task.

Instead, she worried that Zhang Laohu might have taken a fancy to Xu Yin at the Xu Family’s house and decided to abandon her and Xiao Ru.

After all...

Tan Jing glanced at her daughter, then thought of Xu Yin’s face.

Although Xu Ru was indeed the girl with the most outstanding figure and looks in their village, she was nothing special in the city.

Especially compared to Xu Yin, who was naturally beautiful, with delicate features and snow-white skin.

But Tan Jing didn’t voice this worry. She just continued to stare anxiously at the door with her daughter, waiting for that man to return.

Tan Jing’s family were not owners here, so naturally, they weren’t in the group chat. With no one to inform them, they had no way of knowing that Zhang Laohu was already dead.

Tang Mo’s spiritual power could sense that Xu Yuanshan’s family of three was still at the property management center, so she paid them no mind and simply continued to live her own happy life.

Another peaceful week passed just like that, and the end of the apocalypse—and her mission—drew ever closer.

In these final days, thanks to the family’s careful budgeting, they still had plenty of food left. They hadn’t even finished the meat in one of the three freezers.

Tang Mo looked at the two remaining freezers and the sacks of rice, counted the days, and ultimately decided not to deprive herself in the final stretch.

So, she told Xu Jinsan and Zhou Jingyi that she had received some inside information: the apocalypse would be over soon.

By now, Xu Jinsan and Zhou Jingyi had almost unwavering faith in their daughter’s words. However, after living so frugally for so long, they were still a bit worried about suddenly starting to feast.

Coincidentally, television programs started broadcasting good news around this time, like how the toxic fog in certain areas was beginning to dissipate.

Many experts on the internet were also predicting that the apocalypse would soon be over.

With this flood of corroborating information, the Xu Family finally began to enjoy lavish meals.

Never mind this apocalyptic world; even back in the real world, a landscape full of glaciers was waiting for her.

Getting to eat meat so heartily was simply impossible there. So Tang Mo was extremely content, going to sleep nearly every night with a full stomach.

Meanwhile, life wasn’t so good for Tan Jing and Xu Ru.

Zhang Laohu had left some food, but not much, and the mother-daughter pair quickly finished it all.

After that, they were constantly starving.

As for Xu Yuanshan, when there had been food, he had consciously hidden away little stashes on his person.

So now that no one was paying attention to him, he could secretly stuff some food into his mouth to keep from starving to death.

”Mom, let’s go out and look for food.”

Xu Ru was so hungry she couldn’t take it anymore. By now, she had given up all hope that Zhang Laohu would return.

”The fog outside is so thick. Where are we supposed to find food out there?”

Tan Jing was still terrified of the outside world. Even though they had no food left here, at least it was safe.

”But if we just stay here, we’ll starve to death!”

After going hungry one meal and full the next for so long, their bodies had long been depleted of any excess nutrients.

Now that they were completely out of food, the already slender Xu Ru felt dizzy spells again and again, and her body was about to give out.

Xu Ru had a point. Tan Jing lowered her head, her thoughts unreadable.

”Mom, how about I go out and look for food? I’ll come back as soon as I find some!”

Xu Ru was so hungry she’d thrown all caution to the wind. Seeing that her mother didn’t dare to go out, she made the suggestion herself.

”No, I’ll go. You wait here for me.”

Tan Jing said, lifting her head.

”Mom, you’re the best.”

Xu Ru was a little moved, not expecting that Tan Jing would actually be willing to go out and find food for her at a time like this.

Of course, Xu Ru had no idea what was really going through Tan Jing’s mind.

Tan Jing was thinking, ’It seems Zhang Laohu has taken a fancy to Xu Yin and stayed behind in that big house.’

’But as long as Xu Ru is here at the property management center, there’s always a chance Zhang Laohu might come back.’

’But if Xu Ru runs off or dies outside, then we’ll truly have no hope of survival.’

As for finding food outside, Tan Jing knew perfectly well. ’At a time like this, what could we possibly find? We’d be lucky not to die out there.’

She could tell the girl was desperate with hunger; there was no way to stop her from going out to find food today.

’It would be better to make a show of going out for a look myself. That way, I can get her to stay put and wait quietly for a few more days.’

That was Tan Jing’s plan, and she acted on it.

But when she’d wandered around outside for a bit and tried to head back, she found she couldn’t move her feet at all.

The property management center was right in front of her, but it was as if she were bound by something, only able to watch from a distance, unable to get any closer.

In truth, Tang Mo had known the moment Tan Jing left the property management center.

She let Tan Jing wander a few steps before trapping her at the entrance of the property management center, using the same method she had on Zhang Laohu.

In the end, just like Zhang Laohu, Tan Jing died in a state of terror, mania, and rage.

Back at the property management center, Xu Ru waited and waited for her mother, but she never returned. In her heart, she probably understood that her mother had been trapped by the toxic fog and would never be able to come back.

With her mother’s fate as a warning, Xu Ru, who had been dizzy with hunger, regained a sliver of rationality and stayed obediently in the property management center for a few more days.

She would pass out from hunger, wake up, drink some water, and continue to starve in a repeating cycle.
