Reborn One Week Before the Apocalypse

Chapter 162: Chapter 152: To Wuxi Village Again

The next stop after Sand Town was Wuxi Village.

Tang Mo’s spiritual power healing had reached a very proficient level. She hadn’t forgotten that a seriously ill girl was waiting for her in Wuxi Village.

She had made a promise to Xiao Tao, and now it was time to fulfill it.

After leaving the desert, Tang Mo headed for Wuxi Village at nearly top speed.

Perhaps because of the Spirit Power Pearl inside her, she was much faster than before. It only took her half a day to reach the gates of Wuxi Village.

As she knocked on the gates of Wuxi Village once again, Tang Mo felt a little uneasy.

Her last departure from Wuxi Village hadn’t been pleasant. Coming back to enter again felt a bit awkward.

Revealing her true intentions was out of the question; she had no desire to be Wuxi Village’s free doctor.

Saving lives was no trouble for her if it was convenient.

But healing this pack of ungrateful curs?

She really wasn’t in the mood.

Fortunately, what Tang Mo had worried about didn’t happen. The person who came to open the gate was the same one as last time—Xiao Tao’s brother, Xiao Hu.

”Tang Mo?”

Xiao Hu’s eyes lit up the moment he saw Tang Mo. He quickly opened the gate and invited her in.

Xiao Hu was just one of the most ordinary boys in the world. He didn’t have the courage to stand up for justice one hundred percent of the time, but he could still tell right from wrong. He kept it all in his heart.

Tang Mo understood, so she held no resentment over Xiao Hu not speaking up last time.

They were all just ordinary people. You couldn’t hold others to the standards of a saint.

”How is Xiao Tao?” Tang Mo asked, getting straight to the point.

”Xiao Tao’s condition isn’t good... It’s gotten much worse recently.”

Xiao Hu’s tone grew somber as he thought of his sister.

His sister was the most outstanding child in their family—no, in all of Wuxi Village—but she was completely helpless against her illness.

After hearing this, Tang Mo quickened her pace.

She had stayed at Xiao Hu’s house before, so she didn’t need him to lead the way and could find it herself. Before she knew it, she was walking ahead of him and arrived at his house first.

”Brother, COUGH COUGH, why are you back?”

Hearing the door open outside, Xiao Tao called out. Her voice was far, far weaker than when Tang Mo had visited last time, and it was punctuated by coughs.

Xiao Tao’s parents went out during the day to do group tasks and find food, and they wouldn’t be back until dark.

”Xiao Tao, it’s me.”

Tang Mo didn’t bother knocking, pushing open the door to Xiao Tao’s room and walking straight in.

Xiao Tao’s room was as dim as ever, with a few books scattered beside her pillow.

Xiao Tao’s complexion was visibly much worse than before. If she could barely support herself to stand last time, now she could hardly even sit up.

Her clothes looked like they hadn’t been changed in a long time, and her hair was a tangled mess.

’But it’s understandable. Her parents are out from dawn till dusk every day. Her brother is a boy, so it would be inappropriate for him to help, and besides, he has to stand guard.’

’It’s a feat just to stay alive; who has the energy to worry about such things?’

”Tang Mo?” Xiao Tao recognized her at a glance in the dim light.

”You came. I knew you would come back.”

There was no trace of resentment from her long illness on Xiao Tao’s face. Instead, she was more sunny and optimistic than anyone Tang Mo had met on her way through Wuxi Village, filled with a hope for life and a yearning for the future.

She couldn’t sit up, couldn’t even prop her body up. All she could do was lie there quietly, gazing at Tang Mo.

Her eyes and brow were full of mirth, as if this scene had played out in her mind a million times.

She had never considered that Tang Mo wouldn’t return. Although they hadn’t known each other long, she just had that feeling.

Being trusted so deeply made something gently stir in Tang Mo’s heart.

It had been a long time since she’d felt this way.

Tang Mo sat on the edge of Xiao Tao’s bed and placed a hand on her forehead.

Xiao Tao’s illness had already spread throughout her entire body. This was going to be a major undertaking.

She had already told Xiao Hu on her way in to stand guard outside and not let anyone disturb her.

Xiao Hu, knowing that Tang Mo was back to heal his sister, was more than happy to comply.

Only after extending her spiritual power into Xiao Tao’s body did Tang Mo realize just how serious her condition was.

Cells in multiple parts of her body had mutated and become necrotic. These mutated cells were slowly devouring the healthy ones, trying to take complete control of her body.

Tang Mo also observed a deep red ball of light in Xiao Tao’s sea of consciousness. It was engaged in a desperate struggle against the mutated cells that were encroaching on her brain.

’So that’s how it is!’

Tang Mo instantly understood why Xiao Tao had been able to hold on for so long and remain so lucid despite the severity of her illness.

It was all because Xiao Tao was a superpower user with the Strength attribute. And her Strength attribute was very, very strong—strong enough to temporarily fight back against the necrotic cells.

Even so, if this dragged on any longer, that red ball of light probably wouldn’t last much longer either.

Tang Mo first used a stream of spiritual power to help the red ball of light clear out the mutated cells that had already entered the brain.

She restructured the remainder of her spiritual power, splitting it into two streams that flowed through the left and right sides of Xiao Tao’s body.

Wherever the spiritual power, glowing with white light, passed, the mutated cells and necrotic tissue were repaired bit by bit, returning to their original, healthy state.

There was too much necrotic tissue, so Tang Mo’s progress was slow.

Because the process involved clearing out all the necrosis in her body and growing new tissue, it was not only long but also intensely itchy and painful.

Xiao Tao’s brows were tightly furrowed, but she didn’t make a single sound until the very end.

After about four hours, the necrotic cellular tissue throughout Xiao Tao’s body was finally completely repaired. She was a healthy person once more.

”Alright. See how you feel now.”

Xiao Tao tried lifting her arm. Sure enough, she could raise it with ease.

It felt as if her whole body was brimming with inexhaustible energy.

”Brother, Brother, come in! Quick, help me get up and walk around.”

Xiao Tao had been bedridden for too long. Even though her body was healthy again, she couldn’t walk immediately. She needed to take it slow and recover gradually.

”Hey, hey, I’m coming!”

Hearing Xiao Tao’s words, Xiao Hu was overcome with excitement. He rubbed his hands together as he came in to help his sister.

Watching the excited siblings, Tang Mo quietly backed out of the room.

She borrowed Xiao Hu’s kitchen, took out some rice, and cooked a pot of congee.

Her body was still very weak. To make a full recovery, she would need to be properly nourished. Tang Mo decided she might as well see the job through to the end.

Ever the tsundere, Tang Mo would never admit she had been moved by the light in Xiao Tao’s eyes.
