Reborn One Week Before the Apocalypse

Chapter 157: Chapter 147: Cleaning up the Battlefield

”Qin Ling, are you busy right now? I need to talk to you about something...” Tang Mo made a video call to Qin Ling.

From the looks of it, Lin Yu needed to see his people, dead or alive, but letting him dig through the rubble with his bare hands alone wasn’t a solution.

Although, from what Tang Mo could see, even if they turned this whole place upside down, it was unlikely they’d find anyone still breathing.

But this time, Tang Mo wanted to help them.

After spending so much time with him, she realized Lin Yu was nothing like the cold-blooded person she’d heard about in her past life.

She kept wondering what kind of tragedy could have transformed such a kind and warm young man into that person.

Now, seeing the unapproachable iciness surrounding Lin Yu and the profound grief twisting his face, she thought she understood.

Perhaps this incident was the turning point of this young man’s life.

Lin Yu had helped her a great deal since she arrived here.

Whatever the reason, it was undeniable that Lin Yu’s kindness had saved Tang Mo a lot of trouble.

She really wanted to do something to make this turning point a little gentler for Lin Yu, to ease his suffering even just a bit.

And asking Qin Ling to lend her some men was her first step.

”Are you okay? Are you hurt?”

After Tang Mo explained everything, Qin Ling panicked. He couldn’t care less whether Sand Town was destroyed or not.

He only cared if his Tang Mo was hurt. That was the only thing that mattered.

”I’m fine, really. If you’re not busy, you should come over too. There’s something else I need to talk to you about.”

Seeing Qin Ling like this warmed Tang Mo’s heart. She had originally intended to tell him to just send some people and that he didn’t need to come himself since he was busy.

But seeing how worried he was about her, she changed her mind just as the words were about to leave her lips.

”I’m hanging up. Send me your location.”

Qin Ling couldn’t wait another minute. The moment he hung up, he was shouting for someone to ready a helicopter.

This time, he brought all twenty-five members of the Mist Team—what could be considered the strongest fighting force in all of S Base.

He gave anything involving Tang Mo his utmost attention, treating it as more important than even the most critical SSS-level mission from S Base.

Transportation was completely paralyzed now, but aircraft were still the fastest way to travel.

An hour and a half after Tang Mo sent her location, Qin Ling and his team were standing before her.

”You’re really okay?”

Dressed in camouflage, Qin Ling grabbed Tang Mo and inspected her from top to bottom, left to right.

Once he confirmed she was completely unharmed, he pulled Tang Mo into a tight embrace.

”As long as you’re okay. As long as you’re okay. Don’t be scared.”

Whether Tang Mo was scared or not was unknown, but Qin Ling himself had been terrified.

He knew Tang Mo too well. This girl would never proactively ask him for help unless it was something major.

He had been afraid that Tang Mo was hiding the truth during their call. Only now, seeing her and touching her for real, could his heart finally be at ease.

Tang Mo let Qin Ling fuss over her without the slightest hint of resistance.

That Illusion Realm had made her remember many things from her past life that she had selectively chosen to forget.

In truth, her feelings for Qin Ling were complicated. On one hand, she liked him from the bottom of her heart; on the other, she was panicked and afraid.

Afraid that she had nothing worthy of his affection, afraid that she couldn’t keep him.

But now, being held so tightly in the arms of the man she loved, she decided to stop thinking about it all.

’There’s nothing more to think about. Who knows what accidents tomorrow will bring? Being happy right now is enough.’

The team Qin Ling had brought with him stood behind them, their expressions indescribable as they watched the scene unfold.

As Qin Ling’s trusted subordinates, they all knew their boss had a girlfriend, and many had even met Tang Mo before.

But seeing their eternally poker-faced boss acting like a naive little boy in love... they still felt...

The scene was incredibly cringey.

The boss’s devotion to his girl was obvious for all to see.

Otherwise, he wouldn’t have called them all out here just to dig through some rocks and save people.

S Base had a regular army perfectly suited for digging through rocks, okay?!

Unfortunately, even if they felt aggrieved that their great talents were being wasted, not a single one of them dared to voice any objection to Qin Ling. They could only stand obediently to one side, holding their digging tools.

Qin Ling’s team had brought a complete set of tools, and on top of that, every single member was an elite operative.

Therefore, once they started digging, they quickly began to unearth the buried Sand Town bit by bit.

At this moment, Lin Yu and Lin Shourong had no time for thanks; they just mechanically joined in the digging.

Every time they saw the shape of a person, they would immediately rush over and carefully dig them out.

Unfortunately, all they unearthed were cold, lifeless bodies.

Again and again, hope would fill Lin Yu’s face only to be replaced by despair, then hope, then despair...

Tang Mo began to wonder if what she was doing had any real meaning.

’Is making them see the faces of their dead family members one by one really better than leaving everything buried under the rocks?’

With every person they dug up, Tang Mo would go forward to check.

Her healing techniques were quite proficient now; as long as the person they pulled out still had a breath left in them, she could try to do something.

But each time, the result was disappointing.

Everything had happened too suddenly. The people living underground didn’t even have a chance to react.

Many had been crushed to death by rocks, and those who were lucky enough to survive the initial collapse quickly suffocated after being buried.

Those who died of suffocation had died horribly, their faces contorted in agony, a sight that would make anyone’s heart clench.

Tang Mo looked at Lin Yu’s ever-worsening expression and silently shook her head.

”There’s a child here! Still breathing!”

The strongest man on Qin Ling’s team shouted from over there. Tang Mo looked and saw him holding a small girl in his arms.

The girl looked somewhat familiar...

”Xianxian! It’s Xianxian!”

Lin Yu ran over like a madman, took the girl from the large man’s arms, and shook her gently.

”Her breathing is very weak. I don’t know if she’ll make it. The little girl is pretty smart, though. She knew to hide in the cabinet in the corner. It’s a good thing she’s so small.”

The strong man’s heart tightened as he watched Lin Yu. He had a sister himself and couldn’t bear to see things like this.

”Xianxian...”

Lin Yu looked at Xianxian’s small face, which had already turned purple from lack of air, and his heart felt so heavy he could barely breathe.

His parents’ bodies had already been dug out. This was his last and only family member.

Now he had to watch his beloved little sister die in his arms, and there was nothing he could do.

”Heavens, why are you so unfair? What have I done to deserve this punishment...?”
