A Warm Marriage After Rebirth

Chapter 313: Chapter 313: My Short Temper (Part 1)

’In a bad mood? To hell with your bad mood! You’re in a bad mood, and that just puts me in a worse one! If you want to watch people race horses, go bet on a horse race! Those are much more intense and exciting! Why do you have to come and make things difficult for me, someone who knows nothing about riding!’

Of course, Seraphina Sterling didn’t dare say any of this out loud. She could only think it and curse him under her breath. If she really had said it, her leg would probably be in danger. Martin Quinn was capable of anything! She had no desire to become a cripple!

Seraphina Sterling was helpless—utterly helpless. She passively accepted the so-called challenge. Changing clothes, picking a horse—Seraphina Sterling was completely clueless about it all, so Wyatt Gallagher handled everything.

”Just to be clear, I genuinely don’t know how to ride a horse. If I lose in a little while, don’t you dare blame me! I will have done my absolute best. If you have to blame someone, blame yourself for provoking a woman who’s on a whole other level! She’s not someone you can just mess with!”

Seraphina Sterling put on her helmet, and Wyatt Gallagher led over one of the horses he stabled there for her. The two of them then walked out slowly.

”You know, you could just forfeit. You don’t know the first thing about riding. My horse is relatively gentle, but it’s still a horse. If an accident were to happen, the consequences would be unimaginable. For your own safety, it would be better for you to just withdraw!”

Wyatt Gallagher was starting to regret bringing her here. Shannon Gable was a pain, but it wasn’t as if he had no other way of dealing with her. He hadn’t been forced to play this card as a last resort; he’d had selfish motives. He wanted to spend more time with her, to bring their relationship a little closer—even if it was just enough to fuel some suggestive speculation.

Seraphina Sterling was just too outstanding. She always radiated a brilliance that was impossible to ignore. A woman as exceptional as her was bound to attract even more exceptional men. Wyatt Gallagher had always been extremely confident. Although he hadn’t gone into the world of business, he never felt he was inferior to anyone.

In fact, he felt he was more outstanding than most people. At the hospital, he saved living, breathing lives, while all they did was make a company’s profits more impressive. Everything they did just amounted to increasing some numbers on a page.

By comparison, his own work was far more meaningful. But with Seraphina Sterling’s arrival, Wyatt Gallagher felt true fear for the first time. He was terrified that he couldn’t compete with those even more exceptional men, that he would lose to the outstanding rivals who were bound to appear by her side in the future. That was why he had used this pretense to bring Seraphina Sterling into this circle.

Seraphina Sterling didn’t know how to ride at all, while Shannon Gable was an expert. If any sort of accident happened to her because of this, he would never be able to forgive himself.

”You’re four years younger than Shannon Gable, so even if you forfeit, no one will think anything of it. You don’t need to feel embarrassed. As for my business with Shannon, I’ll find another way to deal with it. You don’t have to worry about that!” Wyatt Gallagher tried to persuade her again.

A bitter smile touched Seraphina Sterling’s lips. ’I want to forfeit, too!’ she thought. She had never cared about things like reputation, but a certain someone was waiting with bated breath to see a horse race. If she really did withdraw, that someone’s mood would curdle—badly. And the moment his mood went bad, her own leg would be in peril.

Seraphina Sterling shot a mournful glance at Martin Quinn, who was leisurely sipping his tea. Then she lifted her chin, her eyes filled with resolve, and said words that betrayed her heart, ”To lose without a fight is not something I, Seraphina Sterling, would ever do! I may not be able to win, but to not even take the field would be far too humiliating!”
