A Warm Marriage After Rebirth

Chapter 148: Chapter 148: No One is Simple (5)

”Yes, Boss.”

Meanwhile, at Apex Collections, Joel Xavier was contemplating other ways to quickly boost the company’s reputation in the industry when he received a notice from the exchange conference organizers.

Joel Xavier had thought the plan was dead in the water, but Seraphina Sterling had somehow managed to pull things back on track. His admiration for her, his boss, grew even deeper! Getting into the exchange conference was more effective than any advertisement they could run!

Every single student attending this conference either had exceptional talent in a particular area or came from a background that couldn’t be ignored. For Apex Collections to make an appearance before these people was the same as making an appearance before their families and their schools. This small bit of exposure shouldn’t be underestimated; after all, the butterfly effect can generate an unbelievable amount of energy!

「Winter Camp.」

Normally, all conference attendees were required to stay in the group dormitories arranged by the organizers and were not allowed to go out on their own after dinner. However, there were special exceptions.

Seraphina Sterling’s ’Aunt Flo’ had come to visit, so she needed to pick up some personal necessities. The chaperone from Apex had already gotten to know Seraphina and had witnessed her impressive performance on several occasions, leaving him with a very good impression. When he heard her reason for needing to go out, he let her go without a second thought. As it happened, Genevieve Churchill, who was out for a walk to aid her digestion, saw her, and the two left the winter camp base together.

The winter night was exceptionally cold, so much so that even the dim yellow streetlights seemed to have frozen and gone on strike! At least two out of every five were broken. They could see puffs of white vapor with every breath, and although both girls were bundled up, they still felt like they were freezing to death.

”Seraphina, are you really from Sanford? I’ve been complaining about the cold because I’ve lived in Veridia my whole life and can’t handle these temperatures! But you’re a local, why do you feel cold too?” As she spoke, Genevieve Churchill shivered again. ’Whoever said southern winters weren’t cold was a damn liar! If this isn’t cold, then what is?!’

”I can’t stand the cold!” Seraphina Sterling said with a shiver of her own. ’Thank goodness I only have to spend one winter here. If I had to live here long-term, I’d definitely freeze to death!’

The alley wasn’t very wide. The two girls walked slowly forward, the dim yellow light of the streetlamps stretching their shadows long behind them.

Suddenly, a gust of frigid wind swept past.

The sounds of a fight drifted toward them on the wind.

The noise wasn’t loud, but in the silence of the winter night, it was exceptionally jarring.

Genevieve Churchill grabbed Seraphina and started jogging toward the sound, but not without anxiously repeating, ”Don’t do anything rash in a minute. We’re just going to see what the commotion is about! We absolutely can’t get involved!”

Seraphina was left speechless. ’If you know not to get involved, then why are we going to check it out in the first place? She really needs to change this habit of rubbernecking! What if we run into danger?’

Neither of them could have imagined that they would find Simon brawling with four large men. ’Isn’t Simon supposed to be at the winter camp base? Why is he here? And it looks like he’s in some serious trouble!’

”What should we do? Should we help him or not?” Genevieve Churchill sounded uncertain.

Seraphina Sterling’s mind raced. Seeing Simon struggling to dodge attacks in the middle of the scrum, she immediately pulled out her phone and shouted, ”I’ve already called the police! They’ll be here any second!”

Genevieve Churchill shot Seraphina a surprised glance. ’That’s her plan?’ she thought. ’And here I was thinking I could finally loosen up my muscles and have a good, satisfying fight!’

However, Seraphina Sterling’s tactic didn’t seem to have any effect. Not only did the four men not leave, but one of them actually pulled out a gun and aimed it right at her!
