A Warm Marriage After Rebirth

Chapter 103: Chapter 103: Forfeit

Suddenly, Stoney aimed a vicious sweeping kick at Seraphina Sterling’s waist. The crowd gasped in unison. They had all experienced the force of Stoney’s kicks firsthand. A blow like that would keep a person bedridden for at least ten to fifteen days!

Even Terrence Grant’s eyes narrowed, his heart leaping into his throat.

Seraphina Sterling took half a step back, then leaped into the air. She met his kick with a single leg, then spun a full 360 degrees. Using his own momentum against him, she redirected the full force of the blow back at Stoney. Even he couldn’t stop a pained grunt from escaping. He stumbled back four or five steps before dropping to one knee.

”’Using a small force to deflect a great one! Incredible!’ the eccentric doctor couldn’t help but praise.”

”Hey! I’m talking to you, you freak doctor! Whose side are you on anyway? What’s so incredible? It was just a lucky break! There’s no way she can beat Stoney!”

Silly Monkey was still fuming. ’If even Stoney loses, that means three out of our four instructors will have been beaten by a girl who isn’t even of age. What kind of look is that for us?!’

The eccentric doctor and Mermaid had no time to waste on someone with such abysmal intelligence and emotional awareness.

”’Hughes, you were the one who trained Seraphina Sterling, weren’t you?’ Mermaid, who had been watching the fight in silence, suddenly spoke up.”

”’I wasn’t the only one!’ Hughes said, watching Seraphina Sterling’s vicious moves, her keen senses, and her nimble footwork. Even when facing an opponent as powerful as Stoney, she kept a clear head and analyzed the situation rationally. A profound sense of pride swelled in his chest. ’He had a hand in making this outstanding girl who she was today!’”

The three of them glanced covertly at Terrence Grant. ’As expected of a student he taught. She’s incredible!’

While the three were lost in their thoughts, Seraphina Sterling seized the opportunity created by Stoney’s broken rhythm and accelerated her assault. Her attack speed and power more than doubled from before.

She caught Stoney completely off guard. He couldn’t possibly counter such a reckless, all-or-nothing fighting style during a mere assessment. The outcome was clear. Although Seraphina Sterling’s victory was hard-won, she had still won.

The result was surprising, but no longer as difficult for everyone to accept. After the groundwork laid by the first two matches, the crowd was mentally prepared.

”’We’re screwed. Even someone as tough as Stoney lost. Looks like we’re going to be a complete laughingstock!’ Silly Monkey’s mind started to run wild. ’Do you think the Young Master will get so pissed off he replaces all of us?’”

”’Mermaid, it’s all on you now. You have to at least salvage some of our dignity as instructors!’”

Mermaid paid Silly Monkey no mind whatsoever. ’In some ways, talking to a single-celled organism is just exhausting!’

”’You’re exceptional,’ Mermaid said, stepping forward with a friendly demeanor. ’But diving isn’t like the last three events. There aren’t as many tricks you can pull. You’d better be careful. I can swim the entire width of the Tollan River, you know.’”

”’I forfeit the diving event,’ Seraphina Sterling stated calmly, but her words sent ripples through the small group.”

Without a second thought, Silly Monkey blurted out, ”I get it! You must be intimidated by Mermaid’s reputation, right? You figure you can’t beat her, so you’re just giving up now to save time. Is that it? You know, I actually admire that about you. There are too few people with that kind of self-awareness these days!”

Seraphina Sterling shot Silly Monkey a look, then turned to the eccentric doctor beside him. ”Shouldn’t you, as a doctor, be treating your colleague? Don’t you think he’s got a screw loose? It must be tough dealing with a patient like him. You all have my sympathies.”

Seraphina Sterling wore an expression of pity mixed with regret. Even Silly Monkey could tell something was off. ”Are you saying I’m an idiot?”

Seraphina Sterling shrugged. ”I’m not the only one who thinks so.”

Silly Monkey whipped his head around to look at his three colleagues. Just as he’d feared, they all thought so too.

”’Only an idiot would say something like that,’ Stoney shot him a sideways glance.”

”’You’re not looking down on me, are you? Thinking I’m not worthy of being your opponent?’ After racking her brain, this was the only reason Mermaid could come up with.”

Seeing Mermaid’s insistent expression, Seraphina Sterling sighed. ’This woman has way too much pride.’ With no other choice, she explained quietly, ”I’m on my period. It’s not a good idea for me to get in the water.”

Mermaid: ...

The eccentric doctor: ...

Neither of them would have ever guessed that was the reason.

This time, Stoney was just as clueless as Silly Monkey; he still didn’t understand what Seraphina Sterling meant.

The eccentric doctor sighed and took on the role of interpreter.

”’Teacher Grant, even if I forfeit the last event, I should still be able to graduate, right?’ Seraphina Sterling asked, looking at Terrence Grant. ’Once I graduate, Terrence Grant and I will have nothing more to do with each other!’”
