I Died and Became a Noble's Heir

Chapter 800: The Ice Queen

Red wine spilled across her robes, staining the white fabric with streams of crimson.

She did not appear to notice. She stared at Octavia with the recognition of someone understanding that the political landscape had just shifted irreversibly.

The rules of engagement had changed. The game itself had become far more dangerous.

Caspian’s body began to tremble visibly. His hands were gripping the balustrade so tightly that his knuckles went completely bloodless, draining of color until they appeared skeletal.

His jaw clenched so tightly that his temples throbbed. His breathing became shallow and rapid, approaching hyperventilation.

Duke Asher’s composed expression remained in place, but something in his eyes had shifted. His calculation was accelerating.

His understanding of the political landscape was recalibrating in real time. His access to Bloodrush production through Caspian suddenly seemed irrelevant in comparison to the revelation that the Kaisers were in league with elves.

His daughter’s advancement or failure no longer carried the weight he had anticipated it would.

The Council members erupted into simultaneous speech, their voices cascading over one another in a cacophony of denial and outrage.

“What is the meaning of this?” Leandros demanded, his voice carrying the weight of ancient authority.

“The Ice Queen supports the bastard?” Tymandra questioned, her tone tinged with disbelief and admiration.

“The Kaisers are orchestrating this,” another Council member observed.

“This is madness,” a fourth member declared.

“The implications are staggering,” a fifth murmured.

The pandemonium was growing by the second. The Elven Council members were standing. Spectators were shouting. The announcer’s voice tried to draw attention, but even his amplified words were drowned out by the chaos.

But Octavia did not acknowledge the chaos. She stood beside Aldwyn with her expression revealing nothing.

Her eyes scanned the stadium with the particular calm of someone observing events that she had anticipated and calculated.

Her presence carried a weight that dulled the noise. Her stillness created a counterpoint to the stadium’s energy cascading in all directions.

A point of absolute calm at the center of complete chaos.

King Maelor’s hand gripped the armrest of his throne so tightly that the carved marble splintered beneath his fingers. His knuckles were already bleeding where the splinters had pierced his skin, but he did not appear to notice or care.

He understood.

The realization crashed into his consciousness like a bucket of ice-cold water dumped over your face while you sleep.

Jack had positioned himself as a benefactor, an ally, a partner in building Maelor’s power base.

But Jack had not done this for Maelor’s benefit.

Jack had been orchestrating Rhys’s advancement the entire time. Jack’s sisters had been positioned as sponsors since the beginning.

And now the Ice Queen herself was stepping into public view to back Rhys, the bastard prince.

Jack Kaiser had been using him.

Jack had manipulated the situation so much that Maelor had believed he was controlling the circumstances when in reality he had been a piece on a board that Jack had been moving the entire time.

All of it had been constructed to serve Jack’s purposes, not his own.

The dark elves that Maelor believed he was gaining as a military force: the transformation, the binding of souls, the creation of a new military unit.

All of it had been Jack’s demonstration of power and capability. A revelation of what the Kaisers were capable of achieving.

Maelor’s hand released the armrest. His fingers were shaking. His jaw was clenched so tightly that he felt as though his teeth might shatter. His breathing was beginning to approach something close to panic.

Octavia’s sister remained motionless.

Her expression revealed nothing. She had anticipated this chaos. She was waiting for the moment when the political landscape would stabilize, when the shock would transform into recognition, when everyone would understand that they were all walking in the darkness Jack had created.

Rhys, watching from his preparation chamber through a magical viewing portal, did not react visibly to Jack’s sister’s reveal.

But his shoulders drew back slightly. The secret that had been maintained throughout the tournament was now public knowledge. Octavia Kaiser was backing him. The Kaisers were supporting his advancement even against the Elven Council’s own wishes.

Sylvia’s eyes widened as she recognized Octavia. The legendary Ice Queen. The woman whose records had defined what excellence meant at Cordelia Academy.

The woman whose name was still used to measure capability. Sylvia had studied Octavia’s techniques. She had analyzed her tournament matches. She had attempted to emulate her precision and control.

And Octavia was backing Rhys.

Sylvia’s jaw clenched. Her breathing shifted. Her understanding of the Finals match transformed in that single moment.

She would not be facing three opponents of roughly equal standing. She would be facing Rhys, who had the backing of one of the world’s most powerful families.

He had the support of the legendary Ice Queen herself.

Bastian’s fire magic radiated from his core more intensely for a single moment before he brought it back under control.

He had competed at Cordelia Academy his entire academic career. He understood its politics and the weight that certain names carried. The Kaisers were legendary. Octavia Kaiser was mythological. And she was backing Rhys.

The implications were clear. Bastian had been chosen to compete. Rhys had been chosen to win.

Miriame’s strategic assessment evolved dynamically.

The previous battle already compromised her physical condition with Cyrus.

Her magical resources were significantly diminished. Consequently, she was now confronted with Rhys, who benefited from the formidable influence of the Kaisers, who, in turn.

This lineage instilled in him an unwavering confidence in victory, a conviction derived from the assurance of their family’s direct involvement and commitment to his triumph.

Octavia raised her hand.

The gesture was simple. The movement was minimal. But the entire stadium went silent.

Millions of observers recognized power in that single gesture.

The noise ceased.

The conversations stopped.

The speculation paused. The chaos transformed into silence with the same kind of certainty that turned day into night.

Even the Council members fell silent.

Octavia’s voice emerged, clear and cold and carrying an edge that cut through the remaining murmurs like a blade through cloth.

“The Kaisers support the advancement of Rhys,” she stated flatly. “He is capable, and he is worthy.”

She paused, her crystalline eyes scanning the observation tiers. Her gaze lingered on Leandros, Tymandra, and the Council members who had erupted in protest.

“For those who question this decision: your opinions are irrelevant. The Ice Queen of Cordelia Academy has made her position clear. The Kaisers have aligned themselves with this competitor. This is not a matter for debate. This is not a matter for negotiation. This is an announcement of fact.”

Octavia turned to face Aldwyn directly.

“Headmaster, I believe the Finals are prepared to commence.”

Aldwyn nodded. His expression revealed nothing, but his recognition of Octavia’s authority was evident in the way his shoulders drew back slightly, in the way his head inclined.

“The Finals begin,” Aldwyn announced, his voice carrying across the stadium and through every scrying mirror simultaneously.

He gestured toward the arena.

“Four competitors remain. One will claim the championship. All competitors will demonstrate the capability that has carried them through preliminary rounds.”

Aldwyn descended from the outlook platform.

The four finalists began to emerge from their preparation chambers.

The four competitors reached the central platform simultaneously.

The arena was prepared. The barriers were ready. The scrying mirrors were positioned to capture every moment of the Finals.

Aldwyn moved to the center of the arena.

“The Finals commence as a free-for-all competition. All four competitors will face each other simultaneously. The last competitor remaining conscious will be declared champion.”

He paused, his ancient eyes scanning the four finalists.

“Competitors, take your positions.”
