After I Fully Prepared for the Apocalypse, the Ungrateful Cried with Regret

”What’s wrong?”

Nina Jacobs asked before the group of people could get any closer.

She noticed Trevor’s expression was grim, a hint of something suppressed in his eyes...

’Is that hatred?’

’Do they know these people?’

”It was them. They’re the ones who lured the horde of zombies here, the ones who made us lose so many people.”

Trevor’s voice was filled with restraint.

He knew he couldn’t be impulsive now.

”Looks like they’re not here to make friends.”

Leo Hale remarked, eyeing the approaching group.

The group was made up of men and women, and none of them looked easy to deal with. A woman with her hair in a ponytail, who looked to be in her twenties or thirties, walked in the center. Her expression was frigid.

”Where are you from? What are you doing here in Veridia?” the woman demanded as soon as she spoke.

”Shouldn’t you introduce yourself before you start asking questions?”

Shirley Lucas swallowed her last bite of food. These people were completely ruining their appetites.

”Ms. Thorne, no need to ask. I know these people.”

A man in a floral shirt with a flippant air stepped forward, his eyes smiling as he stared at the little girl, Eve, in Lana’s arms.

Eve was so frightened she immediately hid her face in Lana’s embrace.

”I don’t care if you know them or not. We don’t welcome outsiders here. These people had better get lost, and fast.”

The woman didn’t even glance at the man in the floral shirt, her extremely unfriendly gaze fixed on the newcomers.

”Isn’t that a rather rude way to speak, miss? Weren’t you the ones who came looking for trouble first?” Shirley Lucas asked.

Adrian Shaw snorted coldly, a Thunder Ball crackling into existence in his hand.

’They only have about thirty people. If a fight breaks out, we have the advantage.’

”Now, now, sir, no need to get so worked up, our Ms. Thorne just has a bit of a temper. We’re actually very happy to welcome you to Veridia.”

The man in the floral shirt spoke with a regional Southwest accent, sounding extremely enthusiastic.

”We don’t need your welcome. We’re just passing through,” Joanne Page stated coldly.

”Passing through is its own kind of fate. Last time, we had a bit of a misunderstanding with these young men here, we’re actually here to offer our sincerest apologies.”

The man in the floral shirt clearly still recognized Trevor and his companions.

But Greg Unger couldn’t take it anymore. He shot out from the crowd and swung a punch at the man in the floral shirt!

Adrian Shaw shot a surprised glance over. Greg Unger had been sitting right next to Nina Jacobs. Nina had more than enough time and opportunity to stop him, but she hadn’t made a move.

’Does that mean she approved of Greg Unger’s attack?’

But he quickly snapped out of it. ’Since when have I gotten so good at reading Nina Jacobs’s expressions?!’

”What do you think you’re doing!”

Elara Thorne demanded sharply.

Greg Unger was now being shielded by Beckett Abbott and the others.

His eyes were bloodshot as he pointed at the man in the floral shirt on the ground and yelled,

”You got so many of our people killed! How dare you show your faces here again?”

Greg Unger raged.

What he couldn’t stand the most was how this man brazenly greeted them as if nothing had ever happened.

The man in the floral shirt got up from the ground.

”I remember you... You’re from the Bishop Clan.”

He touched his already swelling face, not with anger, but with a smile.

”Actually, as I just said, we’re here to apologize. What we did last time was indeed wrong, but the situation was urgent. We were fleeing for our lives; it was just instinct.”

”Oh, right. One more thing. Maybe you should be thanking us. Your clan’s Healer... she’s alive and well.”

His words made Trevor and the others stare in shock.

”You mean Maya Warner is still alive?!”

Lana’s face was filled with unconcealable joy, and even Greg Unger froze on the spot.

Maya Warner was his younger sister, and also a Healing Element Superpower User.

”Of course she’s alive. Not just alive, but doing quite well, aren’t you going to go see her?”

”Oh, right. We didn’t have time for proper introductions last time. My name is Aiden Gordon.”

Aiden Gordon said with a smile, watching everyone’s reactions.

”Aiden Gordon, a Healer is one of our team’s most important assets. Aren’t you afraid of being blamed by the Captain for doing this?”

Elara Thorne immediately tried to stop him.

”Don’t you worry, Ms. Thorne. All the people of Drakonia are one big family. Little sister Maya Warner is such a good girl, how could you bear to keep her separated from her family?”

After saying this, Aiden Gordon shot a deliberate look at Greg Unger.

”Where is your base? Is it far?”

Adrian Shaw asked.

”Not far. We’ll take you there. It won’t take long.”

Aiden Gordon was also sizing up Adrian Shaw. ”You don’t look like a member of the Bishop Clan.”

”Why don’t you wait over there for a bit? We need to discuss this.”

Adrian Shaw stated, ignoring Aiden Gordon’s question.

”Of course. In any case, we really are here to apologize.”

Aiden Gordon led his people to their vehicles and waited in the distance.

”Maya Warner’s alive? She’s really alive?”

Greg Unger seemed to be in disbelief.

At this point, Lana explained the backstory to the rest of their group.

It turned out that when they had first passed through Veridia, they’d found many of the surrounding roads impassable. At that time, they happened to run into a few people who claimed to be locals from Veridia.

Those people seemed enthusiastic and offered to show them the way. When they learned there was a Healing Element Superpower User in the group, they begged to borrow the Healer to treat their wounded.

Trevor and the others didn’t think much of it at the time.

After all, the other group had fewer than ten people. Plus, Maya Warner had never been outside her clan before and thought these people were just kind and enthusiastic, so she agreed to treat them.

But before long, their companions showed up, and they brought a massive number of zombies with them.

The situation was critical, so they fled for their lives along the path the others had pointed out, never expecting it was a dead end.

It was clearly a lumber yard crawling with a huge number of zombies...

Lana’s voice choked with emotion; what happened next had been too horrific.

”How could people like that exist?”

”Those people went way too far!”

Beckett Abbott and the other rescue team members were filled with indignation upon hearing the story.

”Our lives were saved by the sacrifices of our clan’s warriors. That’s why we can never forgive those people,”

Shawn said at this moment.

Among the people who had just shown up, several were clearly from that same group last time.

That man, Aiden Gordon, was the one who had claimed to be injured and asked to borrow Maya Warner for treatment.

That was why Greg Unger had been so impulsive earlier.

”I believe this is very likely a trap,”

Rohan Calloway said. These people were cunning and treacherous; they couldn’t possibly be sincere in their apology.

”But Maya Warner is still alive. We can’t just abandon a member of our clan,”

Shawn said.

Eve jumped down from Lana’s arms. ”Trevor, I want to go save Sister Maya, too.”

Trevor knelt down and said,

”Eve, you be good. I promise I will rescue Maya.”

Then he stood up and walked over to Adrian Shaw. ”I want to go rescue Maya by myself.”

”Are you trying to get yourself killed?”

How could Adrian Shaw not see that it was a trap?

Trevor obviously just didn’t want to drag them into it.

”What are you talking about? Protecting you is our mission. If we’re going, we go together,”

Adrian Shaw said.

’He also wanted to see what those people were really after.’

But before that...

Adrian Shaw glanced silently at Nina Jacobs again. Her expression was unreadable, showing neither pleasure nor anger.

Noticing Adrian Shaw’s gaze, Nina Jacobs finally responded:

”I have no objections, but they must have another motive. Once we get there, everyone should do their best to stick together.”
