After I Fully Prepared for the Apocalypse, the Ungrateful Cried with Regret

”I’m going out.”

Aidan Keaton said.

Whether it was Joanne Page or not, she had to go see.

It was too dangerous outside. She needed to bring them in here as quickly as possible for them to be safe.

Frederick Langdon and the others reacted as well.

Meanwhile, Wayne Warner, Shirley Lucas, and Joanne Page were all following behind Nina Jacobs.

Joanne Page still couldn’t believe they had made it inside just like that.

The drone’s reports had constantly emphasized the dangers within the city. While they mentioned an escape exit, they never specified where it was.

But unexpectedly, Nina Jacobs had managed to find it just by looking at the drone footage.

”Have you been here before?” Shirley Lucas asked in a hushed whisper.

This so-called escape route was extremely well hidden. It seemed to be an old cargo transport track for the city.

Lining the track were rows of freight cars, and they were currently walking on top of them.

Nina Jacobs led them without a hint of hesitation.

”No,” Nina Jacobs replied.

She really hadn’t been here before, but her little rats had already scouted the path.

Besides, before coming in, she had already ordered a few of her Little Zombie Rats to make noise in the distance, luring away all the nearby zombies.

”So, where are we heading now?”

Shirley Lucas was both nervous and excited.

But the moment the words left his mouth, a blinding light shot toward him!

BANG!

A Stone Shield blocked the Thunder Ball.

”It’s a Thunder Element zombie!”

Joanne Page was alarmed. A Thunder Element zombie was standing on a pile of scrap not far away.

She was worried the noise would attract other zombies.

”Don’t panic! Let’s go!”

Nina Jacobs also conjured a Fireball. Infused with her Speed Element Superpower, the Fireball knocked the Thunder Element zombie down in a single hit.

At the same time, the sound of an explosion seemed to come from the distance.

The explosion was loud, conveniently masking the noise they were making.

However, as they jumped down from the tops of the freight cars, some zombies still spotted them.

Joanne Page formed Metal Flying Thorns, Wayne Warner took down one zombie per punch, and Nina Jacobs conjured flames at her fingertips.

But there were a lot of zombies here. With her Five Senses Enhancement active, Nina Jacobs could feel even more of them closing in.

”Should we fall back? Our lives are more important,”

Shirley Lucas said.

He had only come along to collect supplies. But if he lost his life, it wouldn’t be worth it.

”Joanne!”

A hushed shout came from the distance.

Nina Jacobs looked over. Just as she expected, it was the Aidan Keaton from her past life.

”Quick! Follow us! We’ll take you to a safe place!”

Frederick Langdon shouted.

He could tell these people were powerful, especially the Fire Element Superpower User. She had wiped out a group of zombies in an instant.

But the zombies here were endless; their numbers would only grow.

”Let’s go.”

Nina Jacobs immediately conjured a stone wall, temporarily blocking the path of the surrounding zombies.

’Dual Element?!’

Aidan Keaton and her group didn’t have time to be shocked. They led the others and ran toward the basement entrance.

More and more zombies were drawn by the sounds in the dead of night.

Nina Jacobs frowned and detonated a few more of her Little Zombie Rats.

Before coming here, she had placed small explosives inside several Little Zombie Rats. The explosion from just now was one she had set off to lure the zombies away.

Although Aidan Keaton’s group was confused, they didn’t overthink it.

In this Zombie City, Mutated Zombies caused all sorts of explosions and disturbances every day.

Tonight, these sounds had conveniently drawn a portion of the zombies away from them.

ROAR! ROAR! ROAR!

A Mutated Zombie leaped down from above, heading right for them.

As she ran, Nina Jacobs conjured a Vajra Shield. The Mutated Zombie slammed right into it.

SWOOSH!

The next second, the shield transformed into a volley of Stone Spikes, instantly dispatching the nearby zombies along with it.

’So strong!’

Vivian Sloan’s eyes lit up as she watched.

”It’s over. The entrance is swarming with zombies.”

Aidan Keaton’s group had just managed to run back, only to see the road ahead completely filled with zombies.

”Looks like we have no choice but to fight!”

Frederick Langdon conjured a Thunder Ball, which emitted a blinding light in the night.

Vivian Sloan’s fists instantly petrified as she too prepared for battle.

They all wore expressions of grim determination, ready to fight to the death.

There were simply too many zombies in front of them, and more were starting to gather behind them as well.

”I’m sorry, Joanne. I’ve dragged you and your friends into this,”

Aidan Keaton said, her eyes fixed on the horde of zombies rushing toward them.

She was starting to regret asking for help.

Joanne Page didn’t say a word, simply readying herself for the fight.

”Hey, buddy. Are there supplies here?”

Shirley Lucas asked from the side.

Frederick Langdon, his face ashen, turned his head. He couldn’t see Shirley Lucas’s face in the darkness, but he still answered, ”Yes. Here in Aethelgard, there’s no shortage of supplies.”

”Really? Looks like we came to the right place.”

A smile touched Shirley Lucas’s lips. He looked at Nina Jacobs and said, ”How about we split the supplies here fifty-fifty?”

”You can trust my character. I’ll hold onto the supplies for you.”

”Fine.”

Nina Jacobs nodded. Shirley Lucas was collecting supplies for the base, but she deserved a share of what was here, too.

’At worst, I can just sell them back to the base. That way, I can earn some Crystal Cores and System Experience...’

Vivian Sloan, standing to the side, looked completely astonished. ’Have these two gone mad?’

’They’re still talking about splitting supplies at a time like this?’

But in the next second, everyone’s eyes went wide.

The zombies were still charging toward them.

But the ground began to rumble and surge, and rows of Stone Spikes shot up from the earth.

Then, bright lava welled up from beneath the spikes, so beautiful in the dark night that it was impossible to look away.

Hordes of zombies were impaled on the Stone Spikes or had their paths blocked. Then, they were swiftly engulfed by clusters of flames, left to do nothing but writhe, shriek, and collapse amidst the forest of spikes...

The zombies gathering behind them were sent flying by Wayne Warner’s kicks. Before him, the zombies were like soft tofu; their skulls shattered with the slightest touch.

Joanne Page knew she didn’t have to worry about what was ahead with Nina Jacobs there, so she coordinated with Wayne Warner to kill the zombies.

By the time the group had escaped into the basement and sealed the entrance behind multiple layers, Aidan Keaton still hadn’t fully recovered from the shock.

”If it weren’t for Nina Jacobs, I wouldn’t have dared to come rescue you,”

Joanne Page said bluntly.

She knew her own limits.

It was only because Nina Jacobs had agreed to help that she had come, even with just four people—one of whom, Shirley Lucas, was a Space Superpower User.

”Hello, my name is Aidan Keaton.

”Thank you for saving us just now.”

Aidan Keaton led her group over to Nina Jacobs.

”Are those people standing guard outside to stop you from leaving?”

Nina Jacobs just nodded, then voiced the question on her mind.

Them hiding underground explained why the City D rescue team’s aerial search hadn’t found them before.

But why hadn’t Aidan Keaton and her group escaped, even though they had an exit?

The only explanation was David Rowan and the others in the camp.

Frederick Langdon nodded and said, ”This is all a conspiracy by the Riventon Base Commander. He wants to let us waste away and die here.”

”Waste away and die? Didn’t you say there were plenty of supplies here?”

Shirley Lucas asked.

”We don’t lack supplies. Most of the resources in Aethelgard are still intact.

”But there are nearly a million zombies here. Over the past three or four months, we’re the only living people left.”

Vivian Sloan said, clenching her fists.

This place was a Zombie City, and the zombies were relentlessly squeezing them out of their last sliver of living space.
