After I Fully Prepared for the Apocalypse, the Ungrateful Cried with Regret

Chapter 92: Chapter 92: Upgrade and Awakening

For the next two days, Nina Jacobs mostly took Wayne Warner to kill zombies in the nearby alleys.

She secretly returned to the Superpower User Alliance at Breslin Park.

She found the place completely deserted.

They had likely all been absorbed by the shelter.

Nina Jacobs also went to the place where Shirley Lucas had blown up a large number of zombies.

Fortunately, the Crystal Cores hadn’t been harvested from the zombies yet.

Crystal Cores were scattered all over the ground.

It took her and Wayne Warner over half an hour to pick them all up. There were more than a thousand Crystal Cores in total.

Among them were quite a few Mutated Crystal Cores.

”Let’s go do a good deed today.”

Nina Jacobs drove Wayne Warner to an open field.

The area had previously been zoned for construction.

The ground hadn’t been paved with concrete yet.

The place was already remote, so there were definitely no zombies around.

Nina Jacobs placed a hand on the ground, and the hard clumps of earth in the open field ahead began to shift slightly.

SHINK.

An Earth Spike pierced through the ground, followed by a second, and then a third...

At first, Wayne Warner could easily shatter those Earth Spikes with a single punch.

But gradually, his punches could only break them in half, and soon it took two punches.

Nina Jacobs practiced tirelessly.

Finally, a point came where an Earth Spike remained standing even after Wayne Warner, using his Strength Enhancement, struck it twice with his fist.

”That’s about enough. Next up is a quicksand trap.”

Superpower practice isn’t something you can master overnight. Once a breakthrough is made, the only way to get stronger is through long periods of practical application.

Compared to Earth Spikes, the quicksand trap had a larger area of effect, which Nina Jacobs considered more suitable for crowd control.

On the open field, the vast number of Earth Spikes began to crumble and collapse under her Earth Element Superpower.

The clumps of earth were gradually pulverized into dust.

After an unknown amount of time, Nina Jacobs was covered in sweat.

Before her was now a circular, deep pit about six meters in diameter.

”Let’s go.”

Nina Jacobs drank a bottle of Superpower Enhancing Potion.

Now for the main event.

「Under the scorching sun, on a main road in the outskirts of City D.」

Zombies, still wandering about, were gradually converging in one direction.

Two figures appeared in the middle of the main road.

”I don’t know how many zombies we’ll attract. When we run, make sure you stick close to me.”

Nina Jacobs stressed to Wayne Warner.

This road was the main route to the surrounding areas.

As a result, it was often teeming with zombies.

Nina Jacobs’s goal today was to lure the zombies from this main road into the trap she had just created.

For one, it was to test the trap’s effectiveness.

For another, it would, to some extent, make the road safer and ease the burden on any survivors passing through.

’How is that not a good deed?’

”Yeah.”

Wayne Warner grew vigilant all over whenever he faced danger, just like now.

”So many?”

Nina Jacobs took out a pair of binoculars.

Zombies were gathering not just ahead, but also behind and all around them.

”Run!”

Although they were still some distance away, Nina Jacobs didn’t dare to be careless.

Sure enough, not long after the two started running, the zombies on the road turned to follow them.

And they were getting faster and faster.

Nina Jacobs’s Speed Element Superpower could have left these zombies in the dust.

But since she needed to lure them into the trap, she couldn’t use her Speed Element.

The two of them sprinted for a full twenty minutes before finally reaching the construction site.

Standing behind the trap, Nina Jacobs continued to use her Superpower to deepen the quicksand pit.

Finally, the first zombie appeared before the trap.

The scent of living flesh drew it forward, but after just a few more steps, it sank deep into the sand beneath its feet.

The more the zombie struggled, the deeper it sank.

Until the quicksand submerged its thighs.

It still tried to struggle forward but could barely move its body.

Then came the second, the third...

Seeing more and more zombies trapped in the pit, Nina Jacobs launched several Fireballs into it.

Soon, hundreds of zombies were burning in the trap.

Thick, black smoke billowed up, and the smell of burning flesh filled the air.

”The effect is pretty good.”

Nina Jacobs pulled up her system panel.

As the zombies were burned to death one by one, the Experience Points on the panel kept increasing.

”Oh, right. You wait here for me. I’ll be right back.”

Nina Jacobs said to Wayne Warner.

There were still plenty of zombies back on the road, and she wanted to use her Speed Element Superpower to lure more of them over.

Wayne Warner looked at her with a confused expression but nodded anyway.

Just like that, Nina Jacobs ran back and forth a total of four times.

Not only that, but she also had to continuously channel her Fire Element Superpower into the trap.

Even her Superpower Energy Stone had been depleted.

But her efforts paid off.

The zombies on the main road were almost all cleared out, and the burning pit trap was now filled with Crystal Cores.

The ”Selfless Savior” title was also triggered more than ten times, and the system unexpectedly awarded her over a thousand bottles of Healing Potion.

[System Experience Points detected as full. System has successfully upgraded to Level Two system. Host, please accept your upgrade package:

Third Superpower Card x1

Second Superpower Card x2

Superpower Recovery Potion x100

Healing Potion x50

Facial Adjustment Skill.]

Although she had been prepared to upgrade her system today,

the contents of this upgrade package still surprised Nina Jacobs.

In her past life, the upgrade packages had always been generous, but this was the first time she had ever heard of a ”Facial Adjustment Skill.”

「After returning to the old house.」

Nina Jacobs eagerly opened her system.

Sure enough, a new Skill had appeared in the skill box below.

”Facial Adjustment Skill: After the host uses this Skill, their appearance will change. The change will last for 4 hours, after which their original appearance will be restored.”

’It can do that?’

Nina Jacobs fell into thought. If she could change her appearance, it meant she could take on another identity.

This was a good thing for her, as it would help her avoid unnecessary suspicion.

’But can this Facial Adjustment Skill really make her look like a completely different person?’

Nina Jacobs tried it out in front of a mirror in the room.

The girl in the mirror looked more composed and mature. Just by changing the distance between her eyes and the shape of her face, along with a few other minor adjustments, she already looked like a completely different person.

Just like the ”Five Senses Enhancement” Skill, the Facial Adjustment could also be paused.

Once she deactivated the Skill, she was Nina Jacobs again.

”The duration is only four hours, but being able to switch it on and off is very convenient.”

Nina Jacobs looked at her other Skills.

With the system upgrade, the durations of her ”Five Senses Enhancement” and ”Heart of Strange Fire” Skills were each extended by an hour.

Most importantly, the capacity of her system’s storage slots had doubled.

Each storage slot expanded to 20 square meters.

Combined with the 15 storage slots she had unexpectedly acquired at the Superpower User Alliance, she no longer had to worry about running out of space for her supplies.

But for now, there was one more thing she had to do.

Awaken the Third Superpower Card.

Without any hesitation, Nina Jacobs used it on herself.

She only paused for a moment to choose the Superpower.

Originally, she had planned to choose the Gold Element Superpower. After all, it had more practical applications and could be used in conjunction with Earth Spikes and various shields. However, because she had read that ”Wood Element Skill Book” a few days ago, she ultimately chose the Wood Element Superpower.

[Host has been detected to have successfully awakened the Wood Element Superpower!]

After the system’s success prompt, Nina Jacobs took out a seed she had stockpiled before the apocalypse and tried to stimulate it with her Wood Element Superpower.

The oval seed in her palm began to sprout at a speed visible to the naked eye.
