Chapter 59: Chapter 59: A False Alarm

Space Superpower Users are just too fragile these days.

Take the first female Space Superpower User who joined them, for instance. She had no situational awareness while gathering supplies and got pounced on by a zombie hiding behind a shelf.

Austin Young was a bit better at dodging—you could even call him quick-witted—but his Combat Power was lacking. He was completely useless in a fight.

”We’ll just find another one. If we could train one Nina Jacobs,

we can train a second one,”

Renee Strong said, unconcerned.

In her past life, Nina Jacobs and Liam Grant had been a couple, and Liam was always by her side.

As far as she was concerned, Nina Jacobs had only survived thanks to Liam Grant’s protection and her own Healing Element Superpower.

”Brother, instead of training someone else, why not train me?

I want to go out with you guys and find treasures, too. It’s so boring here.”

Liam Grant could only manage a wry smile at Hannah Grant’s words.

He wanted to train Hannah, but her space was just too small.

’It was too good to throw away, but not good enough to be useful.’

’If only Nina Jacobs were still here.’

’The problems they were facing now would be easily solved...’

Meanwhile, Nina Jacobs had been driving for over two hours.

According to the safest route recommended by the system’s map, she was about to reach Rivermouth Pier.

Even before she reached her destination, a thick, sour stench filled the car.

Unlike the rotten smell of zombies, this stench seemed to be coming from the river several kilometers away.

After the acid rain, all the rivers and lakes had become severely polluted.

They were no different from open sewers.

A few zombies ran head-on toward her car, but Nina Jacobs didn’t slow down, simply plowing right through them.

She remembered from her past life that the number of zombies would increase dramatically after the next intersection.

Nina Jacobs floored the accelerator, bracing for impact.

However, after she passed the intersection, she saw the ground littered with zombie corpses.

’Someone’s already been here?’

Alarm bells went off in Nina Jacobs’s mind.

It was the same time, the same place, and the same mission as in her past life, but back then, there hadn’t been any zombie corpses around here.

’Could it be...’

Nina Jacobs suddenly remembered something she had overlooked.

’In her past life, she had come here with Liam Grant!’

’That means Liam Grant knew there were large quantities of supplies at this pier.’

’The people who came here were most likely his group.’

”Damn it.”

’Have the supplies at the pier already been taken?’

’But the system hasn’t notified me of a mission failure.’

Nina Jacobs decided to go take a look anyway.

She parked the car in a deserted, safe spot, then opened her system and drank an Invisibility Potion.

The downside of an Invisibility Potion was that it couldn’t hide a person’s scent, meaning it was useless against zombies.

However, Nina Jacobs was more worried that Liam Grant might be inside.

Even if it wasn’t Liam’s group, she didn’t want anyone to see her collecting the supplies.

While invisible, Nina Jacobs examined the zombie corpses. She found that, besides wounds from sharp weapons, their fatal injuries also had residual traces of Superpowers.

”Fire Element and Wind Element.”

’Besides Liam Grant, maybe Simon Abbott was here too?’

Nina Jacobs stopped speculating. The most important thing was whether the supplies had been taken.

The Invisibility Potion had a time limit. As the sour stench grew stronger, Nina Jacobs quickly ran to the edge of the pier.

Several figures were standing silently on the bank. As Nina Jacobs approached, they slowly turned around.

The next second, they lunged in her direction!

Zombies.

To her surprise, Nina Jacobs breathed a sigh of relief.

After a few Fireballs, the zombies collapsed. Nina Jacobs looked toward the area below the nearby embankment.

The riverbank below was the main cargo loading and unloading area, filled with stacks of colorful shipping containers.

There was also a lot of exposed cargo, but it had all been corroded by the acid rain.

Nina Jacobs ignored the supplies in the main area and ran in a different direction.

She was heading for the pier’s temporary cargo storage area.

But when she reached the area, she discovered something different from her past life: a metal gate had been installed outside.

”Looks like they don’t know the embankment is going to collapse.”

Nina Jacobs had to laugh at the metal gate.

In her past life, she had stumbled here by accident while being chased by zombies.

One moment, she was the troublemaker who had led them into danger.

The next, the two of them had discovered a massive stash of supplies.

Liam Grant had no idea she had done it all on purpose.

What he also didn’t know was that the embankment here would be corroded and destroyed in a few days, allowing vast quantities of polluted river water to flood the area.

A metal gate might keep other survivors from discovering the supplies, but it couldn’t stop the contaminated water.

’If I’m not mistaken, Liam plans to come back for these supplies once he finds a suitable Space Superpower User.’

’Too bad for him, no Space Superpower User at this stage has enough capacity for all these supplies...’

Nina Jacobs easily vaulted over the metal gate and headed for the temporary cargo storage area.

She remembered that the cargo here included all sorts of supplies: not just imported goods transshipped from overseas, but also goods from City D that were meant to be exported.

It would be a real shame if it all got destroyed.

Nina Jacobs was thankful she had unlocked the ”Doomsday Gold Digger” title back at the jewelry store, which had awarded her five extra storage slots.

Otherwise, with the amount of supplies she had now, her storage slots would definitely not have been enough.

’I really need to upgrade the system as soon as possible,’ Nina Jacobs thought to herself as she collected the supplies.

To save space, she left the shipping containers and pallets behind, taking only the supplies inside.

The system’s collection speed was incredibly fast, but since she had to open the containers to get to the goods, Nina Jacobs still spent an hour there.

Finally, the system issued a notification:

[Mission ”Free Shopping Mission 13” complete. Rewards have been distributed.]

”The route changed again.”

Probably because of the time she’d spent, Nina Jacobs noticed the route on her system map had changed again.

The path she had taken to get here was no longer viable; she would have to take a longer detour along the riverbank.

Before leaving Rivermouth Pier, Nina Jacobs encountered a Wind Element mutated zombie.

To fight the Wind Element mutated zombie, Nina Jacobs decided to try out her Earth Element Superpower.

THWACK!

Nina Jacobs controlled a piece of rubble from the side of the road, successfully blocking a Wind Ball.

She could have instantly decapitated the Wind Element zombie with her Speed Element Superpower, but remembering the Skills from her Earth Element Skill Book, Nina Jacobs decided to draw out the fight.

She tried creating some distance from the Wind Element zombie before controlling the rubble on the ground.

As Nina Jacobs placed both hands on the ground, her Earth Element Superpower transformed the rubble into fine grains of sand.

It even created a small patch of sandy soil on the ground.

The mutated zombie was far more agile than a regular one, but when it stepped onto the sandy patch, one of its feet suddenly sank in, causing it to topple over.

SHHNK!

A sharp Earth Spike shot up from the ground, piercing straight through the Wind Element mutated zombie’s head.

”A quicksand trap... Not bad.”

Nina Jacobs crouched down, examining the small sand trap she had created.

Although it was barely a fist thick and pathetically small, it was the first time she had ever created a quicksand trap.

And it had worked.
