Chapter 65: Chapter 65: The Most Gratifying Thing

Nina Jacobs had given those people a pack of raincoats back then.

She hoped they could save themselves.

She never expected that Juliana Sinclair had actually survived because of it.

”My name is Josie Joyce, and Ms. Juliana Sinclair is my mother.”

”I also have to thank the person who gave my mom the raincoat.”

Josie Joyce said.

She had been trapped in her car for several days. At the time, the acid rainwater had risen so high it was about to flood over the seats.

It was Juliana Sinclair who returned just in time, smashed the car window, and draped the raincoat over her.

Juliana Sinclair was a doctor to begin with.

Coincidentally, Josie Joyce had also awakened a Healing Element Superpower.

So, when they later arrived at the shelter, the mother-daughter duo volunteered to take on the roles of doctor and assistant.

And they didn’t charge any consultation fees.

”If that person knew, they would be very happy.”

Nina Jacobs smiled.

”Enough talk. Hurry up and put your things away.”

Juliana Sinclair urged.

For some reason, she felt a sense of familiarity whenever she saw Nina Jacobs.

It even made her more talkative.

’It’s probably because Nina Jacobs is the same age as my daughter.’

”I’m Nina Jacobs. I have high hopes for your Healing Element Superpower.”

Nina Jacobs said to Josie Joyce.

The Healing Element Superpower was indeed very weak in the early stages.

But in the later stages, a capable Healer could truly save lives and heal the wounded.

They were also indispensable members of any major Superpower team.

”Really? Thank you! I’ll do my best!”

Josie Joyce made a fist pump gesture.

Nina Jacobs was still smiling as she left the infirmary.

It was the most heartening news she had heard in days.

’So helping people who deserve it can bring me a sense of satisfaction, too.’

However, she soon noticed that Wayne Warner was following her.

Wherever she went, he went.

”It’s safe here now. They provide three meals a day.”

Nina Jacobs tried to explain.

But Wayne Warner didn’t seem to react.

”Do you want to follow me?”

Nina Jacobs asked.

”Thank you.”

Wayne Warner replied.

”Actually...”

’Never mind.’ Nina Jacobs finally relented.

Vera Coleman was also startled when she saw her daughter bring back a brawny, muscular man.

”Uh, hello, sir.”

Leo Hale almost thought Wayne Warner was some kind of gang boss.

But it was obvious Wayne Warner didn’t quite understand him.

”You can stay here for the next few days.”

Nina Jacobs had a bit of a headache. She still didn’t know how to accommodate Wayne Warner.

”I can see he’s had a tough time.”

”We have plenty of space here. Let him stay.”

Daniel Hale didn’t object either.

”I can’t imagine what he went through. Who would be so cruel as to beat him up like this?”

Chelsea Walsh looked at Wayne Warner sympathetically.

”Yeah, who knows.”

Nina Jacobs didn’t tell them what had happened at Quinn Manor.

Chelsea Walsh and the others just assumed he was already injured when Nina met him.

After closing her bedroom door, Nina Jacobs took out the Fire Element Skill Book she had obtained today.

Her understanding of the Fire Element Superpower was limited to what she had seen and heard in her past life.

But when she opened the Skill Book, she realized just how shallow her previous knowledge had been.

’Is this the Fire Element Superpower?’

Nina Jacobs felt as if a world constructed from flames had materialized before her.

At one moment, it was a light and nimble leap; the next, a magnificent, massive eruption.

Compared to the Earth Element Superpower, the Fire Element Superpower focused more on control and conversion, following a path of high-burst damage.

’As expected, there are no shortcuts to improving a Superpower.’

Nina Jacobs confirmed this after she finished reading the Skill Book.

She opened the system’s team function and added Chester Pearson as a teammate.

She did this to check Chester Pearson’s information.

[Name: Chester Pearson

Superpower: Fire Element

Physical Strength Value: 30/100

Superpower Value: 13/100

Friendship: 15/100]

’Thirteen? That’s not bad.’

Nina Jacobs was slightly surprised. After awakening, Leo Hale’s and Chelsea Walsh’s Superpower Values were 9 and 8, respectively, while Ian Chandler’s was 10.

Her Superpower Value was 20.

And Chester Pearson’s had actually reached 13.

Then, she checked Wayne Warner’s information in the same way.

[Name: Wayne Warner

Superpower: Strength Element

Physical Strength Value: 80/100

Superpower Value: 16/100

Friendship: 80/100]

The astounding Physical Strength Value on his info sheet made Nina Jacobs envious.

In Nina Jacobs’s view, the Physical Strength Value represented close-combat ability, and her own was currently only 40.

Yet Wayne Warner, who had just awakened his Superpower, had reached 80.

Nina Jacobs closed the team function.

Although the system in this life had added the function to add and remove teammates, she only later discovered that there was a limit on its use.

The reset period was 365 days.

This meant she couldn’t add teammates arbitrarily.

Remembering she had to follow the rescue team the next day, Nina Jacobs organized her backpack again.

She transferred the system’s Healing Potions into several painkiller and anti-inflammatory medicine bottles.

To prevent the healing effect from being too conspicuous, she had already diluted them once.

She also packed some filling food and emergency supplies into her backpack ahead of time.

The next day, however, she discovered that her preparations might have been a bit excessive.

Ian Chandler had also applied to go with the team.

”Nina, is he feeling better?”

Ian Chandler was referring to Wayne Warner, who was behind Nina Jacobs.

”His external injuries have healed.”

Nina Jacobs felt helpless. When she opened her door first thing in the morning, she found Wayne Warner sitting on the floor outside.

He had guarded her door all night.

According to Vera Coleman, she and Daniel Hale had tried to persuade him to stop, but he acted as if he didn’t understand.

After breakfast, he followed her around like a shadow.

”Thank you for helping arrange his medical treatment yesterday.”

Nina Jacobs knew that Ian Chandler had been staying with Justin Lawson ever since he returned to the shelter, but he hadn’t forgotten about them.

He helped Chelsea Walsh ask about Forrest Walsh’s whereabouts.

And he even helped arrange for Wayne Warner to see a doctor.

He was truly an angelic young man.

”Nina, why be so formal with me?”

”We’re all on the same side.”

Ian Chandler blushed slightly. Nina Jacobs sat down next to him, and he could even smell a faint, fruity-floral scent from her.

”Whoa, look at the size of him!”

”It’d be a waste not to have him on my team killing zombies.”

The moment Chester Pearson saw Wayne Warner, he was stunned by his massive build.

”This guy has definitely trained before.”

”He’s completely different from those gym rats who are all show and no go.”

he concluded.

”He was wearing a security guard’s uniform when I found him.”

Nina Jacobs didn’t know if Wayne Warner could understand, but she introduced everyone to him one by one anyway.

After she spoke, Wayne Warner just gave a slight nod.

”Does he know how to kill zombies? Will it be dangerous having him along?”

The driver, Russell Abbott, asked curiously before the team set off.

”He should. I’ve taught him a bit.”

Nina Jacobs wasn’t bringing Wayne Warner along blindly.

On their way back yesterday, the two had encountered zombies several times. At first, Wayne Warner just watched her kill them, but he gradually started to get the hang of it.

Before setting out today, she and Chelsea Walsh had explained the dangers of zombies and the precautions for the journey to him again.

It was for his own safety, too.

She felt he had probably understood.

”Don’t be a dead weight, big guy.”

Chester Pearson patted Wayne Warner on the shoulder with a teasing tone.

”Are you kidding? This is my big bro. He might even be stronger than you.”

Leo Hale had already decided to look up to Wayne Warner as his big bro.

After all, Wayne Warner’s appearance matched all his fantasies of a gang boss.
