Villain's Evolution: Investing in My Minions Yields Crazy Returns!

What do they mean by the last day? Victor was beginning to have a bad feeling about this.

Quickly, he activated Inspection.

[Target’s strongest current obsession: Completing the profession awakening left behind by her mother.]

’So that’s how it is.’ Victor immediately caught the key points. He turned around to Cecilia, who seemed to know quite a lot about Leah and the academy in general and asked,

”Do you know her mother?”

Cecilia wanted to ask why he was suddenly interested in this but decided not to meddle and spoke quietly. ”Her mother used to be a researcher at the academy.”

”What happened to her?”

”She died three years ago. Apparently, there was an accident while she was studying an extremely obscure ancient profession system.” Cecilia thought for a moment. ”Leah was able to enter Starlight Royal Academy largely because of the recommendation qualification her mother left behind.”

”Then why hasn’t she completed her profession awakening?”

”Because she refused the standard professions offered by the academy.”

Victor turned his head. ”Refused?”

”Mm. She insists on awakening using the method her mother left behind. She’s already failed seven times.”

Now that was interesting.

Victor looked back at Leah.

The girl had already left the training field alone. No friends followed her. It seemed everyone had already grown accustomed to her daily cycle of challenging others, losing, and leaving by herself.

[Time Remaining: 10 Minutes 44 Seconds.]

Without wasting another second, Victor quickly followed.

Cecilia watched his back, but in the end, she did not remain there either.

...

Leah walked quickly through the teaching buildings and along a pathway lined with silver leaf trees before finally heading toward an old building at the far edge of the first year teaching district.

The place was clearly rarely used anymore, and there was even a sign hanging outside.

[Abandoned Magical Engineering Research Building]

[Unauthorized Entry Prohibited]

Leah took out an old authorization card.

Beep.

The door opened, and she walked directly inside.

A few seconds later, Victor stopped before the now closed door as well.

[Target Distance: 31 meters.]

[Time Remaining: 8 Minutes 19 Seconds.]

Cecilia walked up beside him. ”You’re planning to follow her inside?”

”Mm.”

”This building has been sealed for two years.”

”I thought your family owned the academy.” Victor glanced at her. ”Could it be Princess is scared of her own property?”

Cecilia: ”...”

She was increasingly convinced that this man was treating her like some kind of high level access card.

He even had the guts to use her earlier words on her.

Taking a deep breath, she raised her hand and lightly passed her royal identification card over the lock.

[Highest Level Authorization Confirmed.]

Click.

The door opened. Cecilia turned to Victor, a cold glare in her eyes.

”You owe me one.”

”Put it on the tab.” Victor walked inside without looking at her.

Cecilia watched his broad back with a look that could kill before she begrudgingly followed behind.

The research building was even more dilapidated than expected. Most of the magical engineering equipment had already been removed, leaving only empty research rooms along both sides of the corridor.

The dark red marker was underground.

The two followed the stairs downward, and soon, an extremely unstable mana fluctuation came from deep within the first basement floor.

Cecilia’s footsteps instantly stopped. ”Something’s wrong.”

Victor sensed it as well. The mana in the air was agitated. It did not feel like normal cultivation, but more like a magical ritual about to lose control.

[Time Until Destiny Node: 5 Minutes 03 Seconds.]

The two increased their speed and pushed open the final iron door.

Before them was an old laboratory around two hundred square meters in size.

At the center of the room, Leah was kneeling inside a complicated magic formation. She had removed the outer layer of her academy uniform and now wore only black fitted training clothes. Seven completely dimmed mana crystals had been placed around her, clearly what remained from the previous seven failures.

And in her hand, she held the eighth.

At the center of the magic formation lay an extremely worn black notebook.

Leah had not noticed the two people standing at the entrance. She was staring intently at the final page, where the writing had already become blurred and only the last sentence could barely be read.

”The eighth resonance... If it fails...”

The girl softly read those words, then stopped.

Victor could not see what came after them. Fortunately, the system could.

[Destiny Core Item detected.]

[Name: Incomplete Astral Spirit Profession Awakening Formation.]

[Origin: Research left behind by Leah’s mother.]

[Current Completion Rate: 71%.]

[Warning: Formation contains a fatal flaw.]

[If activated directly, the target’s eighth awakening attempt will cause complete collapse of the mana core.]

There it was!

Victor’s gaze instantly darkened.

This was the so called Destiny Node.

If he had not come, would Leah die today?

[Target will not die immediately.]

The system actually provided additional information on its own as if reading his thoughts.

[After mana core collapse, target will permanently lose eligibility as a professional.]

[Withdraws from academy three months later.]

[Two years later, accidentally comes into contact with Astral corruption and awakens an incomplete Astral Spirit ability.]

[Body is unable to withstand the power. Target dies three days later.]

[Final Potential Evaluation: D.]

Victor’s pupils contracted slightly. So the reason the system marked her was not because today’s formation would make her stronger.

Quite the opposite. This formation would destroy her.

Then the true destiny turning point was two years from now?

No! If that were all, the system would not have made him rush here today.

[Host has approached Destiny Core.]

[Complete Special Event Information unlocked.]

The next second, the D Rank potential panel above Leah’s head began flickering violently.

[Current Potential: D]

[Possible Potential: SSS]
