Villain's Evolution: Investing in My Minions Yields Crazy Returns!

’A girl?’

At the center of the training field, a black haired girl was using both hands to push herself up from the ground. She looked around seventeen, and her academy uniform had already torn in several places.

There was an obvious wound on the left side of her forehead, blood running down her cheek, while the training longsword held in her right hand trembled slightly.

Standing opposite her was a tall blond young man who looked no older than eighteen or nineteen. A wooden training sword rested in his hand, and impatience had already appeared on his face.

”Leah, that’s enough. You can’t even block three of my attacks. Continuing is meaningless.”

The black haired girl did not answer. She merely raised her sword again.

The blond youth’s brows furrowed completely. ”What exactly are you trying to prove?”

”I’m not trying to prove anything.” The girl wiped the blood from the corner of her mouth. ”Continue.”

Low laughter came from the crowd again.

Cecilia had already walked up beside Victor. When she saw who was standing in the center of the training field, a subtle change appeared in her expression.

”The person you were in such a hurry to find is her?”

”You know her?”

”Leah Vane,” Cecilia nodded. ”First year. Ranked first in theoretical results during the entrance examination. Her understanding of magic is also excellent. But...”

At this point, her voice seemed to fade into the background. Victor had already entered the fifty meter range, and a new panel instantly unfolded.

[Name: Leah Vane]

[Age: 17]

[Level: 9]

[Profession: Incompletely Awakened]

[Current Talent: None]

[Current Potential Evaluation: D]

[Current Condition: Multiple soft tissue injuries, mild mana backlash, extreme mental exhaustion]

[Current Destiny State: Major turning point approaching]

[Special Destiny Marker: Red]

[Estimated Time Until Destiny Node: 18 Minutes 37 Seconds]

Upon seeing the final string of text, all doubts disappeared from Victor’s mind.

Indeed, it was her.

The system had said it very clearly yesterday. This target currently did not possess high potential. What made her special was that she was about to experience an event capable of causing her Destiny Rank to leap.

In other words, something would happen eighteen minutes from now.

If he did nothing, she might miss it forever. Or even die.

”Detailed information.”

[Special Target’s Deep Destiny has not yet been triggered.]

[Please wait until the Destiny Node opens.]

Victor frowned.

Still withholding information? He wasn’t surprised.

At that moment, the blond youth on the training field finally lost his patience.

”Since you insist on continuing, one last time.”

The moment his words sounded, a ring of pale blue mana exploded beneath his feet.

The sudden burst of light caught Victor’s eyes, the shadows of the lightning reflecting on his face.

From his aura alone, one could tell Felix was Level Eighteen, the same level as Ryan. However, the mana radiating from his body was clearly denser than that of an ordinary Level Eighteen professional.

[Name: Felix Horn]

[Level: 18]

[Profession: Lightning Swordsman]

[Potential Evaluation: B+]

Lightning instantly wrapped around the training sword, causing the expressions of many nearby students to change.

”He’s using Thunder Slash?”

”Wasn’t this supposed to be a training match?”

”Leah’s going to get hurt.”

Felix clearly was not truly trying to cripple her. The lightning only covered part of the blade, but against someone who was only Level Nine and whose profession had not even fully awakened, it was already far too strong.

Whoosh!

He stepped forward, and his speed instantly increased.

Leah’s pupils contracted sharply upon seeing this. Subconsciously, her muscles moved on their own, raising her sword in an attempt to block.

Bang!

The instant their training swords collided, the weapon in Leah’s hand was knocked away, and the paralysis from the lightning element instantly spread along her arm. She did not even have time to retreat before Felix’s second sword had already stopped in front of her neck.

”It’s over.”

The entire field fell silent for an instant.

Under that heavy silence, Leah lowered her head and looked at her empty right hand, her eyes filled with a myriad of emotions.

There was regret, disappointment, and anger.

She had lost, just like every other time.

And there had been absolutely no suspense.

’Stupid of me. Why did I think I could win this time?’ She clenched her fist so tightly that her nails dug into her skin.

Meanwhile, Felix withdrew his sword.

”You’re not a swordsman. You’re not a warrior either. Your mana core still can’t awaken properly. Continuing to practice swordsmanship like this is meaningless.”

Leah’s body stiffened slightly. Even the students who had been watching for entertainment became quieter.

Felix seemed to realize that his words were harsh, but still continued anyway. ”The academy will conduct the first freshman screening next week. Anyone below Level Ten and anyone whose profession awakening remains incomplete will be placed on the observation list. You fail both requirements. Instead of wasting time here every day, you should start considering another path.”

At those words, Leah’s face darkened, her fingers trembling.

Victor quickly found information about the so called freshman screening in the original body’s memories.

Entering Starlight Royal Academy did not mean students could remain indefinitely. There were three screenings during the first year, and students who continuously failed to keep up might be forcibly transferred into an ordinary academy or expelled entirely.

That was also why Noah, despite already being a second year student, still faced the possibility of withdrawal.

Competition never stopped.

And Leah’s situation was obviously even worse.

First in theory during the entrance examinations, yet nearly two months after enrollment, she was still only Level Nine, and her profession had not even fully awakened.

From the academy’s perspective, she was already close to being classified as a failed cultivation prospect.

Leah bent down and picked up her sword; without saying anything, she turned to leave.

Just as she passed through the crowd, a girl suddenly called out.

”Leah.”

Her footsteps stopped; she turned slowly toward the source of the voice.

The speaker was a blond girl who hesitated slightly before asking, ”Today... is the last day, right?”

Leah’s fingers abruptly tightened, and the expressions of several nearby students who clearly knew the situation also changed.

Victor noticed something else on his retina, which made his brows arc up slightly.

The system countdown suddenly began falling faster.

[Destiny Node accelerating.]

[Time Remaining: 12 Minutes 02 Seconds.]

The last day?

The last day for what?
